Shah Rukh Khan to play a cop again
murugadoss SHARE AND DISCUSS Tweet Shah Rukh Khan More Pics If Kamal Haasan had his way, superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be the only actor to step into his shoes for the Hindi remake of Gautham Menon's Tamil film " Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu ". Shah Rukh is currently in a dilemma as he has to choose between the remakes of two Tamil films - "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu" and A.
R. Murugadoss's " Ramanna ".
Both offer the picky King Khan a chance to do something he hasn't done before a south Indian remake with parts that he hasn't tried before. "While Murugadoss's film casts SRK as a social crusader, Menon's film casts him as a cop, a role he has played just once in Shashilal Nair's 'One 2 Ka 4' and that too a plain-clothed cop.
SRK has never got a chance to get into khaki uniform. This, 'Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu' will let him do," said a source.
Haasan, who played the role of the cop on the lookout for a serial killer in the original movie "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu", has expressed keen interest in Shah Rukh reprising the role in the film's Hindi version. "Kamalji is extremely fond of Shah Rukh.
They go back a long way to the time when 12 years ago Shah Rukh agreed to do Kamalji's 'Hey Ram' free of cost. When director Gautham Menon , who understandably respects Kamalji's opinion, asked the thespian who should play his role in the Hindi remake, Kamalji promptly gave Shah Rukh's name," said a source close to the project.
Menon confirmed his eagerness to cast Shah Rukh and said: "I don't know where these reports of Salman Khan being an option for 'Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu' are coming from. It's Shah Rukh Khan, who is the first and only choice.
Kamalji played the part in the Tamil original. So Shah Rukh seems the right candidate for the part.
" There is another reason why Salman was eliminated early from the race to play the cop in Menon's film. Salman has already done the khaki bit several times over.
"Shah Rukh in khaki is a novelty. Salman has been there and done it many times.
Shah Rukh is our man for the part," said the source. Apparently, "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu" will explore the same dark noire cop-killer space as Aamir Khan's " Talaash ".
A source close to the project says that the only reason Shah Rukh has not given a final nod to Menon's remake is because he wants to see how "Talaash" is received by the audiences

(less)Saif Ali Khan surrenders, charged with assault, granted bail
According to reports, he was questioned, charged with assault and then granted bail. Earlier, the actor got into a scuffle in a five star hotel restaurant last night and apparently punched a man in his face and broke his nose.
A case under section 325 of the IPC had been registered against Saif. The incident took place last night at Wasabi restaurant, Taj Hotel when he, along with Kareena, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora Ladak and a few friends, were having dinner.
Iqbal M Sharma, a temporary resident of Juhu, was sitting with his family at an adjoining table. According to reports, Iqbal complained about the clamour that Saif and his friends made.
This ticked off Saif and a scuffle broke between the two. Saif, reportedly, told Iqbal to go to a library to find quiet.
Some reports suggested that the fight actually broke between Amrita Arora Ladak's husband Shakeel Ladak and Iqbal. But it was only when Saif intervened that he got into a brawl with Iqbal.
Post the scuffle, Iqbal lodged a complaint that Saif and two of his associates assaulted him with fist blows, causing fracture to his nose. A case has been registered against the actor with the Colaba police station.
According to Times Now, Iqbal M Sharma is the deputy director of department of trade & investment, South Africa. He is a South African national of Indian origin.

Rest of the details are with my boss ACP Iqbal Sheikh." When contacted ACP Iqbal Sheikh said, "We are conducting an inquiry into the matter and we will be questioning every one involved in this case.
If required we will be arresting who ever is at fault." Meanwhile the people at Wasabi refused to comment on the incident.
Pankaj Singh , the floor manager at the Wasabi said, "I wasn't here last night so I don't know about anything that happened at the restaurant nor have I heard anything from anyone here."

(less)I was abused, assaulted: Saif Ali Khan
I was hit and I defended myself. I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law-abiding citizen.
I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done. I have seen the interviews given on TV and they look like decent people and I cannot believe that the same people were so aggressive the night before and the lies that they are saying about me with such straight faces.
I think they have the CCTV footage in the restaurant that will prove everything. I hope the media is able to remain impartial while the matter is being decided.

(less)I'm not competing with Salman Khan: Kulraj Randhawa
Her character is shown to be fearless, bubbly and extremely talkative."I play a dabangg girl, she doesn't care what she is getting into.
But I am not competing with Salman Khan, he remains the original dabangg," she states, flashing her dimpled smile. "Everybody wants to have a piece of Chandni because she is happy and always ready to help others.
She has the best of solutions for everything. Her energy is so infectious that everybody wants to fall in love with her," says the actress about her character.
But she adds that playing Chandni wasn't easy. "Chandni had to be loveable yet not irritating.
She is innocent yet funny, witty and sharp. So while I had to strike the right balance, I didn't want to overact either.
Also, I didn't ape any actress who has played a similar role in the past," explains the actress. It was veteran actor Anupam Kher and his acting school that helped her get into the character.
"I was working with a huge cast with several senior actors. It was not just about playing the lead but essaying the title role of someone who binds the characters together," Kulraj adds Produced and directed by Samir Karnik, Chaar Din Ki Chandni is slated to release on March 9
(less)B'town filmakers turn ad maker
Tremendous control over the medium has enabled Bollywood to get some big bucks from a talented lot of ad filmmakers who turned directors and vice versa. Now the tables have turned and how! Filmmakers Abhinay Deo, Dibakar Banerjee, Imtiaz Ali, Tarun Mansukhani, Bejoy Nambiar and Rajkumar Hirani are also directing TVCs even as they continue their B-Town stint.
Imtiaz directed Neetu Kapoor and Jimmy Shergill in a bank ad, Tarun Mansukhani directed Kareena Kapoor and Karan Johar in a paint commercial, Dibakar directed Imran Khan in a cola ad, Hirani directed Sharman Joshi in a soft drink ad and Bejoy directed MS Dhoni and his wife Sakshi in a bike ad. Abhinay says, "Filmmaking is about how the fat is thrown out and the meat is presented to the audiences.
We can't afford to splurge in advertising. Ad filmmakers understand nuances like color coordination well.
And most importantly content comes first, technique comes later." Says adman Prahlad Kakar, "While ad filmmakers are more educated than regular Bollywood filmmakers and more professional, when a Bollywood filmmaker directs an ad, their connection with celebs comes to the platter of ad filmmaking.
Actors don't throw starry tantrums with known filmmakers when they do an ad." Abhinay however refutes the claim and says as an ad filmmaker he never tries "to consciously work with celebs.
In that case, the celeb becomes the script and the ad has no further scope." R Balki, a creative director of a leading ad agency feels, "The mindset of a person watching an ad and a film is different.
Otherwise both the mediums involve storytelling and they are not very different. Ad films teach you to communicate a concept and if it is about big bucks then ad filmmaking is also about big bucks.
" Well, as along as viewers get wholesome entertainment in a 30 second TVC with a starry cast and tampered with some master storytelling and smart packaging, it's a win-win situation for everyone involved
(less)Saif Ali Khan arrested for assaulting businessman, released on bail
A battery of top police officers were waiting for the actor, besides the media and scores of fans outside the police station. In the afternoon, police sent a team to Saif's house and after failing to locate him there, had ordered him to appear before it as early as possible.
Saif was virtually declared 'wanted' for assaulting South African NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma , who is also the director general and CEO of the Trade, Industry & Investments of South Africa. The actor has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly assaulting Sharma in the Taj Mahal Hotel around 1 am on Wednesday morning.
Police said a case of assault had been registered at the Colaba police station. After his release the actor in a statement said, "There was an ugly incident last night where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted.
I was hit and I defended myself. I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law abiding citizen.
I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done. Sharma told Times Now television that Saif called him an "idiot" for complaining about the actor's loud conduct at a restaurant in the Taj Mahal Hotel. He said he and his family had requested the restaurant manager to ask Saif and his friends, which included Kareena, Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan, to keep their voices down.
Sharma said he and his family decided to move to another part of the restaurant downstairs. "As we were going down the stairs, Saif was coming up, probably from the toilet.
As he passed me, he called me an idiot and asked 'Do you know who I am?'" Sharma said the actor first pushed him and then assaulted his father-in-law who fell on the stairs and bruised his jaw. "It was an uncivilized way to behave in a public space," Sharma said, adding that he intended to pursue the matter legally.
A police officer confirmed that Sharma and his guests had objected to the noise created by Saif and his friends. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Saif has been involved in public spats earlier too, including some photojournalists in Patiala in September 2008. The actor has won the Padma Shri award, which did not go down well with the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan as he is accused of killing a blackbuck -- an animal the Bishnois hold sacred.
Saif was charged with poaching as the blackbuck is on the endangered list

(less)Will Katrina or Kareena win the Khan race?
According to sources, Rohit Shetty has approached Salman Khan's ex-girl for his next action film starring SRK. Katrina will however have to fight it out with Kareena Kapoor , a Rohit Shetty favourite, before she bags the coveted project.
A source close to Rohit revealed to Mumbai Mirror, "Katrina Kaif is at an all time career high. Currently, she is working with the three biggest Khans - Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir.
Rohit Shetty's action film that goes on floors in May next year will be her fourth consecutive film with a Khan." Though, Katrina would surely set a record if she bags the role in question, it wouldn't come easy.
According to another source, Kareena Kapoor, too is in the running to be cast opposite her G.One.
"Kareena has worked with SRK in Asoka and RA.One.
She shares a good on-screen chemistry with him. Also, director Rohit Shetty is very fond of her.
She has been his chosen one for the successful Golmaal franchise. She is the obvious choice for the project," said the source.
Despite Kareena being a strong contender for the role, a section of the industry believes that Katrina's friendship with Rohit Shetty might just pay off. "Katrina is working with SRK in Yash Chopra's film.
She has become good friends with the actor as well. She might have been recommended by him as well," added the source.
Rohit Shetty, on the other hand who was earlier planning to remake the 1982 comedy with SRK, had decided to cast Kareena in the same. After RA.
One, when SRK decided to continue with the action genre, Shetty dropped his plans to remake Angoor. "When Rohit decided to make an action film with Shah Rukh, he decided to change his heroine as well.
Earlier he wanted Kareena to portray the role played by Moushumi Chatterjee in the original Angoor. But with the change in the script, he decided upon Katrina Kaif ," revealed Rohit's friend.
The source close to Kareena, however maintained, "Kareena is very keen to work with Rohit again. And Rohit too will want his successful heroine back.

(less)Rahman unveils romantic album at Taj Mahal
Rahman. "The movie has so many romantic songs, so what can be the perfect way to project my songs with Taj as a backdrop.
I always want people to recognise my music and this is what I am trying to do (through this album)," Rahman told reporters here on the sidelines of the music launch. "The film is the perfect expression of love and that's what the songs speak," he added.
Rahman was accompanied by the film's cast, Prateik and Amy Jackson. Even Prateik is excited to have got a chance to work with The Mozart of Madras.
"I love Taj, especially because it is a symbol of love. Also, working with Rahman was such a delight," said Prateik.

The lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar. Directed by Gautham Menon, the film revolves around an aspiring filmmaker from Mumbai, who falls in love with a woman from a strict orthodox Christian family.

(less)Shah Rukh, Imran: B-town’s newest Khan brothers
However, the production house's casting plans for the Hindi version have come as a shock. In the original, Madhavan and Arya play brothers - one who is peace loving and an overall good person and the other a ruffian.
And now for the Hindi version, Mumbai Mirror has learnt that UTV are keen to cast the untried star-pair - Shah Rukh Khan and Imran Khan - in the lead roles. However, according to a source close to the developments, Madhavan, who has made a name for himself in Tamil and Hindi cinema, is keen on essaying his character in the remake.
"But UTV, who have earned huge profits with the Tamil film, would rather take the remake further with two big stars in the lead roles. And since Shah Rukh and Imran have shied away from remakes of South Indian films, the production house feels that the novelty factor of their pairing will add to the edge of the remake," added the source.
When contacted, Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV was noncommittal about the pairing and simply said, "Nothing has been finalised yet. It's too early to talk about the details.
But we're definitely considering remaking our Tamil production Vettai in Hindi, since it's a huge success down south."

The Tamil audience is more receptive to unusual endings. Thus we had a coming-of-age climax for that audience.
The Telugu version had a feel-good climax because the audience there prefers happy endings." However, the climax of the Hindi version will warm the viewer's hearts.

The producers of Tagore jacked up the remake rights of the film to a staggering Rs 10 crore. What's more, Mantena is believed to have paid up the amount.

(less)Gautham Menon to relaunch Aditya Roy Kapoor
But now it turns out he has been busy in the south shooting for a Tamil-Telugu-Hindi movie, being directed by Menon. Menon, who is in the news for his new Hindi film "Ek Deewana Tha", confirmed the news.
"Yes, I am working with Aditya Roy Kapoor in a film that I am making in three languages - Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The Hindi version with Aditya is called 'Assi Nabbe Poorey Sau'," he said.
About Kapoor, Menon said: "I spotted him on the location for Vipul Shah's 'Action Replayy'. I immediately knew he was right for 'Assi Nabbe Poorey Sau'.
" Menon has apparently shot almost the entire film already. The movie also features Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
While Kapoor plays the lead in the Hindi version of this adventure-comedy-drama, Tamil superstar Jeeva and Telugu star Nani play the lead in the other two versions of the film. Interestingly, Samantha, whom Menon introduced in Telugu film "Ye Maaya Chesave" in 2010, features in all three versions of the film.
"I already have three different heroes in three different languages to deal with. In addition, three heroines would have been impossible to handle.
So Samantha stars in all three languages," said Menon. The director says shooting a tri-lingual is like making three different films.
"I do one shot with Aditya and then the same shot with Jeeva and Nani. We go through every shot three times over in exactly the same way.
I've never done a film simultaneously in three languages," he said. However, Menon is worried about other things for now.
"At the moment, my full focus is on the release of 'Ek Deewana Tha'. It's a simple, old-fashioned love story," he said

(less)Aamir Khan pulls out Talaash's promo
Aamir has stopped the release of his film Talaash's first theatrical promo that was supposed to hit the screens alongside Shah Rukh Khan's December 23 release Don 2. According to a unit member of Talaash, three production houses had been appointed to make the promos of the film.
It is only now, that one has been finalised delaying the process and missing the Don 2 deadline. Our source explained, "Talaash is Aamir Khan's first film after 3 Idiots .
While Dhobi Ghat and Delhi Belly, both his home productions did release, Reema Kagti's film will be his next big commercial project." "Since both Talaash and Don 2 are Excel Entertainment projects, everyone expected to see the promo of Aamir's film with SRK's.
However, since the promo got delayed, Ritesh Sidhwani, Reema Kagti and Aamir Khan decided not to rush into it and work on the promo at their own pace. In fact, Aamir wanted to spend more time on the promo and give it a different look," added the source.
"Since Talaash is the biggest release during IPL, Aamir did not want to hurry things even if it meant missing the Don 2 deadline. And thus, the overseas delivery of Don 2, which went last week had to go without the Talaash promo," said the source.
When contacted, Ritesh Sidhwani explained, "We had assigned three different production houses to make the promos of Talaash. We did not much like the first or the second one.
The third, created by a production house owned by Pahlaj Nihalani's son was the closest to the film. Aamir has also liked it.
Now we will send a new brief to the production house so that they can start work on the final cut." "We are now targeting Agneepath.
It isn't true that it was Aamir who wanted to work on the promo. In fact, the promo wasn't entirely ready.
We will need to edit it a little and compose the music for it to be screen ready," Ritesh said denying Aamir's involvement in the delay

Ya Jaane Na , Dhobi Ghat and Aarakshan . Well in sync with the theme of Ekk Deewana Tha , the music of the film was launched with much fanfare against the backdrop of the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra.
Rumours are abuzz that Prateik and Amy are dating each other ever since they met on the sets of the film, but they refuse to confirm or deny it. Prateik admits he would love to act with Amy again.
Rahman was caught up in a controversy following objections from a Christian group over the use of the word Hosanna in a song from the film. The Mozart of Madras clarified saying he didn't intend to hurt anyone's sentiments.
"As with any film project I work on, I had spent several months researching before composing and writing all the songs for Ekk Dewaana Tha and had consulted friends who are Christian in particular about the use of the word Hosanna in this song," Rahman said. Rahman rarely gets involved in promotional activities for any film but he agreed to shoot a promotional video for the film, while singing a track Kya hai mohabbat .
Prateik's last solo release My Friend Pinto failed to rake in moolah at the box-office, so now he pins hope on this film. Tweet
(less)Our love isn’t for our film: Prateik
But we're in sync. I can tell her everything.
Except that I have a bad stomach and I've been to the loo 12 times today. Yeah, not stuff like that!" But they do know that when you do a film like this, which is a celebrated love story in the South, it's possible for their friendship to be termed as beneficial for the film.
But Amy says, "Yes, it can come with the situation. But we're best friends because we have many common interests and we like hanging out together.
It's my first movie and I'll do everything to make it work, but we wouldn't use each other to promote it. A year from now, we'd be as good friends as we're now.
The film has so much we can talk about - the music by AR Rahman and Javed Akhtar, the wonderful story." Prateik says he's not concerned if people think the friendship is beneficial, but he'll never "take celibacy vows" to promote a movie! He adds, "Even after the movie has released, we'd be together.
Both of us feel that there's something special about this, and we're really solid." Prateik and Amy were strangers when they met for the film, and the most memorable part, say both, is when they shot a lovemaking scene.
Says Amy, "The movie's already such a big hit in Telegu and Tamil, but we had to make it a bit different for Bollywood. Even with the lovemaking scene, it's not raunchy or sexy, it's innocent.
It's emotional." They also have friends who say they're a 'cute couple'.
Says Prateik, "It's not that I didn't try. But she's pricey!".
While Amy retorts, "Of course I'm not. He's such a windup", we think that their chemistry makes "Ekk Deewana Tha" a perfect love story to catch this Valentine season
(less)I suggested Prateik for Ekk Deewana Tha: AR Rahman
"Prateik is a brilliant actor. He has got brilliant acting skills.
I worked with him three years ago in Jaane Tu..
. and his fresh acting skills appealed me.
As Gautham was looking for some fresh talent in his film I suggested his name to him," said Rahman on the sidelines of the music launch of the film here. The film, which is a remake of Menon's own Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa , has got two original tracks written by lyricist Javed Akhtar.
"I felt singer Leon D'Souza's voice fits Prateik and apart from him there are other new voices in the film. It is a love story, so it demanded some fresh talents in it.
The five songs in the film were the Hindi remake of Tamil tracks and a track Mohabatein..
. was written by Javed saab within an hour's time," he added.
Asked to share the experience of working with one of the biggest filmmakers in the South, Rahman said, "Gautham Menon is my favourite director. I consider myself lucky to work with him.

(less)Shah Rukh Khan in a South film remake?
Interestingly, word is that several prominent producers were vying for the Bollywood rights of the film, especially now when anti-corruption statements have acquired a profound relevance, thanks to Anna Hazare. A source said, "After acquiring the rights of the Telugu film Vikramarkurdu which he has remade as Rowdy Rathod with its original director Prabhu Deva helming the Hindi remake, Sanjay was not really open to another South remake.
He did Rowdy..
. for the experience.
But then someone recommended Ramana to him. When Sanjay saw the film, he was blown away.
Made nine years ago, it is still as relevant. He had to acquire the remake rights and he had to get the director of the Tamil original to do it.
" The film will be directed by A R Murugadoss, who is said to have already approached Shah Rukh Khan to play the lead. Murugadoss confirmed, "I will be directing the Hindi version of Ramana .
Shah Rukh and I have talked about the film." Ramana featuring Vijaykanth in the lead and directed by the Ghajini maker Murugadoss was an all-time hit in Tamil.
It was remade into Telugu with Chiranjeevi in the lead, and in Kannada as well. Tweet
(less)Chinmayi dubs for Amy Jackson
The film stars Prateik and Amy in the lead. Coincidentally, Chinmayi had dubbed for Trisha too in the Tamil original.
Talking about Amy's performance, Chinmayi says, "She's done a great job in terms of her dialogue delivery and pauses. It was one of the easiest actors whom I have dubbed for so far.
"
(less)AR Murugadoss to work with Shah Rukh Khan
The next Khan that he will be working with is Shah Rukh and it looks like scripts are already written and well in place. When the director was working on "Ghajini", he narrated a script to King Khan who loved it.
Post-"Ghajini", he narrated another script which SRK liked as well. When we quizzed the filmmaker if he had a script ready, he confirmed saying, "Yes, Shah Rukh has finalized two scripts that I narrated to him.
I am not sure which we will shoot at this point. But I have told him that I have kept aside these two scripts especially for him and he can decide.
" As for when the SRKMurugadoss film is likely to go on the floors, he says, "When Shah Rukh is busy, I am free and vice-versa. In fact, he wanted to start work on the film now that he's free but I had to complete "7aum Arivu".
We are likely to start the film by mid-2012."
(less)Murugadoss writing an original script for his Akshay starrer Hindi film
I don't want to comment on them. All I'll say is my second Hindi film will have action very different from Ghajini .
I've decided to make an original screenplay with Akshay Kumar for producer Vipul Shah with no stylised action," said Murugadoss. After doing comedies, Akshay is back in action mode and reportedly action would be more cerebral than overt in the sequel to Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai , while Rowdy Rathore will be a full-on bone-crunching action.

(less)Aamir Khan scores Rs. 90 crore deal
The deal between producer Excel Entertainment and Reliance was finalised last week. A source close to the production house informed Mumbai Mirror, "Rs 90 crore is a huge amount.
Don 2 sold for Rs 80 crore and that was already an established franchise. This however, puts a lot of recovery pressure on Talaash.
" Trade analyst Amod Mehra however, did not feel that the amount was too surprising. "I think it's a reasonable amount," said Mehra.
Excel Entertainment and Reliance remained unavailable for comment
(less)Ranbir Kapoor's loss, Prateik Babbar's gain
The entire unit vouches for the twosome being absolutely smitten with one another. Do we see Smita Patil smiling down from heaven? Says director Gautham Menon, "Our film is getting a positive vibe.
People are saying the lead pair is looking good together." And to think it could have been Ranbir Kapoor romancing Amy in 'Ek Deewana Tha'.
Gautham Menon is one of Tamil cinema's leading lights of filmmaking. But in Mumbai Ranbir Kapoor doesn't know him, nor wish to work with him.
Apparently when Menon wished to approach Ranbir for his new Hindi film, the star refused to meet him. Embarrassed to talk about his failure to connect with the Kapoor star the hurt and angry Menon, who has worked with the likes of Kamal Haasan, Madhavan and Suriya in the South, finally admits, "Ranbir was my first choice for 'Ek Deewana Tha'.
I tried to get in touch in with. Forget about meeting Ranbir.
I couldn't even meet his secretary. Yes, even the secretary refused to meet me.
" This is when Gautham turned away, his pride and dignity seriously challenged, to sign Prateik for the film. Says Menon, "One reason why I've taken 11 years to make my second Hindi film is because I am comfortable working with the stars in the South, as they are with me.
In Mumbai, I feel like a stranger. In fact I've had a number of offers to direct Hindi films.
Vipul Shah wanted me to do the Hindi adaptation of my film 'Kaakha Kaakha'. I declined the offer.
Nishikant Kamat directed the remake 'Force'." Now after his bitter experience with Ranbir Menon has become even more wary of Mumbai and its stars.
Menon can take solace in company. Increasingly a wide spectrum of director are complaining about how inaccessible Ranbir has become.
Sudhir Mishra wanted to cast Ranbir in 'Driver' . He's been waiting for months for a meeting.
Raj Kumar Santoshi wanted to do a sequel to 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' with Ranbir. Katrina Kaif was willing.
Ranbir was not. Incidentally, Ranbir loves romancing half-foreigners on screen: Katrina Kaif in 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani', Sarah Thompson in 'Raajneet' and Nargis Fakhri in 'Rockstar'
(less)Thanedaar Returns's a hardcore action flick: Sanjay Dutt
The film starts in March 2012. Says Dutt, "It's a hardcore action flick with a fantastic story.
I haven't performed such action sequences in a long time so I'm very excited about the role. What I love best is the honesty in Saamy's character.
Though he appears corrupt and accepts bribes, he later succeeds in getting rid of corrupt politicians. Saamy is a cool super cop - the kind who eats idli with beer!" Dutt has three months to whip himself into shape, and says he's already lost a lot of weight for the part.
"I've been working out for two hours everyday and am also on a special diet that includes grilled fish, chicken, salads, fruits, lots of protein shakes and health drinks," adds the star. Dutt's rigorous workout regime - which he has designed himself - includes a mix of cardio, weight training and TRX Training.
He explains, "It's a kind of rope apparatus that lifts your body weight, helping to build lean muscle, boosts your metabolism, tightens your core muscles and increases endurance and flexibility. Ranbir (Kapoor) introduced me to it, and Shah Rukh (Khan) and Ajay (Devgn) use it too.
" Explaining why he chose Saamy as his next film, producer S Kumar Mohan says, "We have mostly seen cops in corrupt avatars in Hindi films, but that's only one side of the story. After the success of Dabangg and Singham, the police story seems to have become popular.
" Mohan adds that Anirudh Ravichander (who composed the viral smash hit Kolaveri Di) is the music director, while Prakash Raj will play the villian. Thanedaar Returns is scheduled for a Diwali 2012 release
(less)Shah Rukh in Bajirao Mastani?
Says a source, "Initially, Bhansali was planning to offer the role of Bajirao to Salman Khan but Salman and he had a panga and now SLB's dropped the idea of doing it with Salman. Recently, he met Shah Rukh Khan and gave him a one-line narration.
SRK was very excited and now the duo have planned to meet up soon for a proper narration." We wonder what Sallu has to say to that?
(less)Shah Rukh Khan's remake dilemma
Rumour has it that both the films are looking equally tempting to King Khan, as they would be providing him with the opportunity to essay the kind of characters that he hasn't played so far in his career. "While Murugadoss's film will cast SRK as a social crusader, Gautham's film will portray him as a cop - a role he has played just once in "One 2 Ka 4"," a source said.
While "Ramana" had Vijaykanth in the lead, "VV" had Kamal Haasan playing the cop
(less)Salman Khan wants to buy Kanchana
Kollywood insiders reveal that Salman, after his successful south Indian remakes in Hindi - Wanted, Dabangg and Bodyguard, might be the one to bring the film to Bollywood. Sources close to Raghavendra revealed that the director is insisting on at least Rs 4 crore to sell the remake rights.
And though Salman is eager to remake the film in Hindi, another source revealed that his brother Sohail is against paying such a huge sum to the makers of the film

(less)Birju Maharaj to choreograph Kathak for Kamal Haasan
Birju Maharaj is all set to choreograph a Kathak dance for Kamal Haasan in the Hindi-Tamil bi-lingual Viswaroopam , which marks his return to Hindi films after nine years. The last time Birju Maharaj choreographed for a Hindi film was in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas where Madhuri Dixit's dance number Kahe chede chede mohe was supervised by him.
Says Kamal Haasan, "Yes, I am indeed doing a Kathak dance under the supervision of Birju Maharaj for Viswaroopam . It isn't going to be part of the film just for the heck of it.
The dance is an integral part of the script. I thoroughly enjoy watching and performing the classical dance forms.
" The song for the dance has been composed by Shankar Mahadevan. Tweet
(less)Kamal Haasan wants SRK for Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu remake
R. Murugadoss's Ramanna .
Both offer the picky King Khan a chance to do something he hasn't done before -- a south Indian remake with parts that he hasn't tried before. "While Murugadoss's film casts SRK as a social crusader, Menon's film casts him as a cop, a role he has played just once in Shashilal Nair's One 2 Ka 4 and that too a plain-clothed cop.
SRK has never got a chance to get into khaki uniform. This, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu will let him do," said a source.
Haasan, who played the role of the cop on the lookout for a serial killer in the original movie Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu , has expressed keen interest in Shah Rukh reprising the role in the film's Hindi version. "Kamalji is extremely fond of Shah Rukh.
They go back a long way to the time when 12 years ago Shah Rukh agreed to do Kamalji's Hey Ram free of cost. When director Gautham Menon, who understandably respects Kamalji's opinion, asked the thespian who should play his role in the Hindi remake, Kamalji promptly gave Shah Rukh's name," said a source close to the project.
Menon confirmed his eagerness to cast Shah Rukh and said: "I don't know where these reports of Salman Khan being an option for Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu are coming from.
Apparently, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu will explore the same dark noire cop-killer space as Aamir Khan's Talaash .
A source close to the project says that the only reason Shah Rukh has not given a final nod to Menon's remake is because he wants to see how Talaash is received by the audiences. Tweet
(less)Velayudham is special: Tamil star Vijay
I have acted in many films which have been filled with commercial elements. "You have liked my films for their quality in picturisation of songs and fights.
But Velayudham is one film which is focused on a issue besides being packaged with lot of commercial elements." "You have already given a thumbs up for the audio of the film.
I hope you would like the film also," he said amid cheers. Slated for a Diwali release, Velayutham is produced by Aaskar Ravichandran and directed by M.
Raja. The film also stars Genelia D'Souza and Hansika.
Vijay was in the city to inaugurate a store of Jos Alukkas Jewellery, of which he is the brand ambassador. "I have come here many times, including during the launch of Kannada film Jogayya , which was my friend Shivaraj Kumar's hundredth film.
I am very fond of my fans in Karnataka," said Vijay. Velayudham is being released along with actor Surya's 7 Aam Arivu , helmed by Ghajini director Murugadoss.
These two major Tamil films have to contend with a big competitor in the form of Shah Rukh Khan's RA.One , the costliest film to be ever made in the country.
Murugadoss had also directed the Hindi version of Ghajini with Aamir Khan in the lead, which had become a sensational hit. Now, the news is that Bollywood star Shah Rukh too is interested in working with the director.

(less)Will Shah Rukh Khan follow Aamir?
But that doesn't mean he isn't considering other films. While both Salman Khan and Aamir Khan have gone ahead and worked in South remakes, Shah Rukh Khan has been offered one now.
The film in question is Gautham Menon's 2006 Tamil hit Vettaiyaadu Valaiyaadu . The murder-mystery had Kamal Hassan play a cop who is in search of a serial killer.
In fact sources insist that it is Kamal Hassan who suggested Shah Rukh Khan's name for the Hindi remake. So what is stopping Shah Rukh Khan from signing the film? Other than the fact that he is busy with two projects, buzz is that the film falls in the same genre as Aamir Khan's upcoming thriller Talaash .
Talaash has Aamir Khan playing a cop who is in search ( Talaash ) of a killer. Knowing the game, trade circles predict that since playing a cop is new territory for Shah Rukh, he wants to first check the kind of response that Talaash gets.
That means he will have to wait another five months before he makes his mind. So now it seems it's not just Aamir Khan but also his followers who will take their own sweet time before they reach upon a decision
(less)SRK, Akshay Kumar to buy the rights of Kolaveri Di?
Says a source, "Kolaveri D is an extremely popular song and played across almost every corner of India. Apparently Akshay and Shah Rukh were both very keen to get the rights.
Akshay was so keen that he even landed up at Rajnikanth's Chennai home and obtained the rights - thus beating King Khan to it!" However a source close to Akshay rubbishes the rumors, "Though he loves the song, Akshay is not interested in the rights of Kolaveri D. He never has been.
So the question of him beating Shah Rukh to the rights doesn't even arise. The only song rights that Akshay has bought is the rights of the Tamil song Appadi Podu from the film Ghilli.
" Apparently Sonu Sood owned the rights of the song Appadi Podu and had wanted to use in his upcoming film, but Akshay convinced the Sonu to let him get the rights to use the song in his film Naam Hai Boss. According to reports Sonu had got the rights from the music company but Akshay made a special request to him.
Naam Hai Boss is the remake of Malayalam film Pokkiri Raja starring Mammootty and Prithviraj in the lead roles. NHB will be directed by Anthony D'Souza
(less)Prateik and I are close friends: Amy Jackson
He's a very dedicated guy and he influenced me a lot. We worked together on this movie and we grew pretty close during the shoot," says Amy.
The buzz is that the 19-year-old, who made her Kollywood debut with Madrasapattinam, had reportedly edged out actor Trisha (who featured in the original) and was to reprise her role as Jessy in the Hindi version of VTV, Ek Deewana Tha . "She was meant to play the part, but there were some issues and the role finally came to me.
She is a brilliant actor. I've watched some of her films and liked them," says Amy, who will play a conservative Malayali Christian in the film.
Ask her whether it was difficult to pull off the look and she says, "As an actor, I am prepared to change my hairstyle, the colour of my eyes, and wear a sari. I hope it will have a big impact and hope the audience will like it.
" However, there is one thing she still has to master - her Hindi diction. "I didn't know a word of Hindi the whole time we were shooting the film," says Amy candidly, adding, "But I memorized my lines and lip-synced, which made it a lot easier.
My diction is improving by the day." Amy reveals that a film career in Bollywood never originally figured in her scheme of things.
"I actually didn't know I could act until I was given a break in the south Indian film industry. It was when I met Gautham that he told me he had me in the mind for a Bollywood film.
Until then, I had no intention of acting in B-town," she reveals. Now that item numbers seem to have become an integral part of an Indian film, is Amy open to upping the glam quotient of a film by taking the item girl route? "I've watched a few songs on TV and the girls look fabulous, but I feel their role has to be interesting as well.
" The actor, who will soon start shooting for Vikram's Thandavam in February, confirms that she hasn't been signed for Bala's next film. "Those are all rumours.
So far, nothing is confirmed," she clarifies

(less)Salman Khan ditches Dookudu's remake plan
As a result, the actor and his family's plan to remake the Telugu film Dookudu , starring Mahesh Babu, has reportedly failed to materialise. A source close to the developments told Mumbai Mirror that Babu's sister-in-law, Shilpa Shirodkar, who was co-ordinating with the Khans, learnt about Salman's decision from an associate close to the actor.
According to the source, Salman, who has played a cop in at least five films, was not too keen on repeating the act. Had he taken up Dookudu, the actor would be required to don the same avatar again.
Added the source, "In Dabangg 2, which goes on floors in March, Salman plays a cop yet again. That bascially forced him to rethink Dookudu.
" Salman's decision, however, has come as a major surprise to the south superstar and producer of the film Mahesh, claimed the source. "The entire Khan family had watched the Telugu version of the film and they were very keen on remaking it in Hindi.
Salim Khan had watched the film first. And then Salman saw it at Pixion theatre, in Bandra, on November 13.
Salman's sister Alvira Khan and brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri wanted to produce the remake. She had flown down to Hyderabad to finalise the deal with Mahesh and his wife Namrata.
Either Sohail or Arbaaz were to direct the project. In fact, even the financial modalities were worked out.
The actor's decision to back out after all this, has come as a shock to Mahesh," added the source

(less)Salman Khan in Kanchana
Also, Salman had opted out of the film, as he decided to do Dookodu instead. However, a source informed us that the film has now been taken over by Sahara One Motion Pictures.
According to the source the production company has approached Salman to play the lead in the film. The source explained, "Salman was extremely keen to remake the film with Sohail.
However, since the original director of Kanchana, Lawrence Raghuvendra, wanted to direct the Hindi version as well, the plan to remake the film was put on hold. But now Sahara One Motion Pictures has taken over the project.
" When contacted Vikram Singh , advisor project development of Sahara One Motion Pictures said, "Kanchana was made in Tamil and dubbed in Telegu. Sohail bhai liked it and I showed the film to Arbaaz bhai.
Lawrence sir, the director of the film, asked me to accompany him during the screening, as I'm working with him on his next film. I was keen to have Salman bhai play the lead role.
I myself saw Kanchana thrice, but nothing has been finalised yet. I would love if Sahara produces it and Salman bhai acts in it.
We are constantly in touch with Arbaaz bhai and Lawrence sir and so, we will take a decision very soon."

However, the R&B singer's tryst with India does not end there. Buzz is that director AR Murgadoss has signed the singer to sing a Tamil number for his next film Tuppaki starring superstar Vijay.

One has given him the kind of mileage he couldn't have even imagined. So he is obviously looking to expand his base in India.
The director thinks that Akon's voice is very catchy and it'll work for the kind of music Thupakki has." Harris Jayraj who is the film's music composer has apparently written a song especially for the international musician and they plan to launch it in a big way.
The source added, "The makers are trying to facilitate Akon's visit to India once again for the film. The only problem is dates which is being worked out at the moment.
" With Kolaveri Di becoming such a rage, it's little surprise that South makers are going that extra mile to make the music of their film stand out. Murgadoss agreed, "Everyone likes a song that's a little different.
Right now all I can say is that we are working hard on the music of the film." Tweet
(less)Mallika replaces Malaika!
The item number Munni was a chartbuster in the Hindi original, and its Tamil equivalent has been constantly under the spotlight. It is being said that the Bollywood bombshell has been paid a whopping amount to dance for the song.
Sonu Sood will shake a leg with Simbu and Mallika for this song. Simbu and Dharani have decided on the word Kalasala to be the catchphrase of the much-expected item song in Osthe.
Says a source, "Yes, the song will have the term Kalasala as its buzzword. The word is used as a call for merriment.
" It is believed that Shruti Haasan will croon the song, which will be recorded by composer Thaman next week
Tweet
Tweet
(less)Ekk Deewana Tha about thrills of first love: Preview
A Hindi remake of Menon's Tamil movie Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa , the film also features Manu Rishi and Sachin Khedekar. The music of the film is composed by Oscar winner A.
R. Rahman and it is being distributed by Fox Star Studios.
The story of the film revolves around Sachin, a regular 22-year-old engineering graduate from a middle-class family in Mumbai, who is in love with cinema and wants to carve a niche for himself in filmdom. But it was not easy to fulfill the dream -- like many others, he struggles and struggles and his only source of survival is his pocket money.
While waiting for his big break, he meets Jessie and instantly falls in love with her. Jessie is a beautiful, elegant and smart girl, but belongs to an orthodox Malayali Christian family, where watching movies, partying or falling in love are taboo.
Jessie, from her end, tries to forge a friendship, believing that hiding their feelings under the umbrella of friendship would save them heartache, tears and a full-blown family drama. Ekk Deewana Tha is described as intense, yet feel good love story of two completely different characters and how they cooperate with the pangs and pleasure of first love.
This is Prateik's second solo venture after My Friend Pinto . However, he has been part of multi-starrers like Jaane Tu.
..

(less)Not cashing on success of south remakes in B/wd: Gautham Menon
But it does not mean that if south film remakes are doing well so I am here or it is the right time for me to make a film in Hindi. I have already made Ek Deewana Tha in Tamil and Telugu and it did well.
I was always looking to do this film in Hindi..
.I thought it would be universally appealing," Gautham told PTI in an interview.
"It took us some time to come up with the Hindi version as we had pre-production work - planning dialogues to getting dates of Prateik. Since February 2010, we wanted to do this film much before the hindi version of Bodyguard, Ready and Singham came out and became hits," he said.

(less)Akon to sing in Tamil?
However, the R&B singer's tryst with India does not end there. Buzz is that director AR Murgadoss has signed the singer to sing a Tamil number for his next film Tuppaki starring superstar Vijay.
A source said, "Shah Rukh Khan has been in talks with Murgadoss for his next South remake and that is how he got introduced to Akon. One song in RA.
