Music Review: Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai
The album boasts of nine tracks. It starts with the melodious, soft love ballad Pee loon in the voice of Mohit Chauhan.
The song has touches of Sufi and is quite likeable. The song gives a good start to the soundtrack and is a winner all the way.
The song also arrives in a remix version. It is followed by another appealing composition Tum jo aaye .
Sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Tulsi Kumar, it has elements of qawwali . The soothing number strikes a chord with the listener.
The song also has a reprise version attached, which is a solo Rahat Fateh Ali Khan version. Even though the original is promising, the reprise version takes the cake.
Then comes Parda , a song that is a mix of two of R.D Burman's greatest hits and few original lyrics.
Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Rana Mazumder, the song has influences of Monica oh my darling and Duniya mein and brings in the true retro feel. While the basic essence of the old songs is kept intact, Pritam brings in a new flavour by doing his own bit.
After a long time one gets to hear a cabaret number album in a movie album. Up next is I am in love , a soft, pleasing, romantic track with KK and Domnique Cerejo behind the mike.
"I am in love" shows potential with its melodious music and is good to hear in loop. It is a song that will appeal to the younger generation more.
It has two more versions - dance and duet. Finally, there is Babu Rao mast hai .
Sung by Mika, it is an edgy and mischievous song about a certain Babu Rao, who is believed to be an important character in the film. The song is average and musically not that appealing.
On the whole, the album impresses and will appeal to music lovers. (less)
Azim looks up to Salman, SRK and Aamir Khan
To make his character in "Qasam Se Qasam Se" appear realistic, Azim frequented call centre offices to absorb the finer nuances of the people working there. "It was quite a relevation for me as an actor.
I witnessed not only people's mannerisms but also the activities they indulge in during the break hour. Looking into the mirror, some guys would be busy ruffling their hair and taking care of their looks, while some would busy binging.
And there would others catching up with family and friends over their cell phones. This has helped shaped my character in the film.
" Azim feels that all our veteran actors were keen observers and would translate that on screen. "Whether it were the legendary actors like Dilip Kumar or the late Raj Kapoor or Dev Anand , they were schools in themselves.
I am a great fan of Salman Khan , Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan and look at them as a student who looks upon his guru. I am mastering the art of acting watching their films," he smiles

(less)I never thought I'd be a desirable woman: Sameera Reddy
"My name in the list means a lot to me. As as a young girl, I never thought even in my wildest dreams that I would become a desirable woman.
I yearned for a perfect body as I was ugly duckling in school. But now that I have entered films, I believe that beauty is hidden in the imperfections of people and it all depends on how you use them.
That's my definition of desirable and I am glad to have made it to the list," says Sameera. The actor is basking in the success of her last Tamil release opposite Madhavan and has Padma Shri Priyadarshan's Tezz to look forward to.
Sameera has now decided that she will do a mix of performance-oriented and glamorous characters on screen, something that Simran and Jyothika did in Kollywood. So is the report true that Sameera wants to become the next Simran and Jyothika? "You cannot become another person.
I had said that I look up to both Simran and Jyothika, who had a mixed bag of roles- performance-oriented and cute characters. Both had their own fan following .
They are my role models and I want to have a beautiful lineup of characters like them," says the actor
(less)Sherlyn Chopra likes being unconventional
Be it politics, cinema, sports, business or any other arena, women across the globe including India are in great form mentally, physically and consciously to undertake greater responsibilities and tougher challenges that are often encountered on paths less travelled." Sherlyn is also happy that she has gone from being just a pin-up girl to an entrepreneur.
Says she, "The rapid metamorphosis in my case would not have been possible had the mindsets of the majority of the people in the Hindi film industry continued to be goverened by prejudices. I look upto entrepreneurs who command respect and attention for daring to think out of the box and act accordingly.
They do not have a herd mentality. What they have is unadulterated creativity which is set on fire by courage.
" Naming films like " The Dirty Picture ", " Erin Brokovich ", " No One Killed Jessica "," The Black Swan " as cinema that has changed the way we think, Sherlyn says, "Unconventionality is no longer a taboo. It is being applauded and celebrated by both the classes and the masses.
The pulse of the youth is racing towards liberalisation. And I'm truly loving it.
" Asked why she decided to give us photographs that resembled those of the " Jism 2 " campaign, the actor quips, "I have pushed the envelope by choosing to cover my nakedness with nothing but pure consciousness."

"I had a blast at NYU. Everyone was so enthusiastic, they put on a very polished, confident show, and the surprise flash mob at the end was perfectly executed.
My best wishes to all the students involved," Imran said in a statement. The students had been practising for the performance for over two weeks, ahead of Imran's visit to New York as part of the promotional tour.
"As the president of NYU Dillagi, a Bollywood dance team, I knew we had to have simpler steps that the general public would be able to do and we sent videos out to the public. I thought that the flash mob came out even better than expected since people kept joining the mob throughout the sequence and it definitely surprised those that did not know of it ahead of time," Mohit Chhatpar, coordinator of the flash mob, said.
"It was really fun to be doing a flash mob and having Imran among us was all the more fun. He was very sporting and interacted with the students.
We are excited about this movie as well and are glad he could come and be among us to talk about his movie," he added. The Dharma Productions' film, also starring Kareena Kapoor, is set to hit theatres Feb 10.

(less)Mohit Suri to direct Aashiqui 2 with fresh faces
"It's been 20 years for that film. So, obviously now I will have to upgrade this story.
It will be the same realistic love story but with a modern theme," Suri told IANS. Aashiqui won critical accolades after its release at the time.
It also catapulted the careers of lead actors Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, who forayed into Bollywood with this film. Suri is also set to hunt for new faces for the sequel.
"I will cast fresh faces with a new boy and a new girl," said Mohit. While some are referring to Aashiqui 2 as a sequel, others are calling it a remake.
However, producer Mukesh Bhatt of Vishesh Films sets the record straight. "It is neither a sequel nor a remake.
It can be said as the musical series of Aashiqui ..

Ludacris , On The Floor ft. Pitbull and Bad Romance .
Nevertheless, Dhanush, son-in-law of matinee idol Rajinikanth, is overjoyed that the song is successfully "breaking language barrier". "Yayyyyyy 20 million views for Kolaveri !! Pa pa papa pa pa papa!! God bless," Dhanush posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.
The big worldwide YouTube hits this year include Justin Bieber's Baby ft. Ludacris (671,069,814 views), Jennifer Lopez's On The Floor ft.
Pitbull (444,281,564 views), Lady Gaga's Bad Romance (432,227,541 views), Shakira's Waka Waka (427,435,565 views) and Eminem's Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna (410,857,092 views), among others.
The video for Kolaveri di was released on YouTube Nov 16. It's peppy, catchy tune as well as funky lyrics, helped it go viral on the internet, and get more than a million hits on the website within a day of its release.
The numbers are only multiplying ever since, and have reached 20,341,650 hits by Monday noon. The song, composed by 21-year-old Anirudh Ravichander, will be a part of the film 3 , directed by Dhanush's wife Aishwarya.
Also called Soup song , it has been appreciated by people of all age groups and lauded by celebrities, including megastar Amitabh Bachchan. However, lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar had spoken out against it, saying: "Tune ordinary, singing substandard.
Words an insult to sensibility." But Dhanush is nonchalant and tweeted: "I have you guys.
Your support. As long as I'm making u guys happy, I'm doing my job as an entertainer properly.
That's enough. God bless.
" The Tamil-English song is also a hit with north Indians, despite its southern accent-loaded vocals. "When a song is breaking language barrier and brings us together, how does it matter which language it's in? You want a name to this language? It's an Indian song made by an Indian.
..
Whether its a sensible song or nonsense song, it's music. It's art.
Art does not know language. Only people's heart.
And that's where my song lives." "And to all my north Indian Kolaveri fans, thanks for receiving a Tamil song with warm heart and making it a global song.
God bless," added Dhanush. Ever since it has hit the web, there have been several spin-offs of the song, including one by Bollywood playback singer Sonu Niigaam's son Neevan and the Chamaat song on Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar being slapped.

The song, which is sung by Akon and has been picturised on the leading lady of the movie Kareena Kapoor, has already been leaked online a few months ago. The brand played the song while showcasing their creation on the fourth day of IIJW held last week in Mumbai.
Actress Amrita Rao along with other models was seen walking the ramp for Agni, while the song played in the background. T-Series that owns the music rights of the film have sent a legal notice to the brand, asking for a compensation of Rs 2 crore.
Bhushan Kumar, the head honcho of the music label confirms the news, "Yes, we have sent a legal notice to Agni for using our unreleased song without prior permission. It is an illegal thing to do.
We are moving court and suing them for about Rs 2 crore. One needs to get a license to use any song for a show.
However, for an unreleased song you cannot even obtain a license." A source from SRK's production house Red Chillies Entertainment says, "SRK was livid when he learnt that the unreleased number has been used by the brand.
" The source further adds, "The scratch version of the song was leaked on the internet a few months ago, which was probably picked up by the jewellery brand. It is a very careless mistake.

(less)The new Vijay Dinanath Chauhan has no style, swagger: Hrithik
People will come to see Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, but when they will look at me, they will think he doesn't look like Vijay, he is nothing like Vijay. He is nobody, he doesn't have a style, he doesn't have that swagger.
..
that walk, not even the voice," Hrithik said in an interview. "This Vijay was not Vijay Deenanath Chauhan.
He is a simple man. They will have to see the film keeping me in mind," he said.
Even in the promos of the remake, Hrithik seems subdued when compared to the appeal that Bachchan had brought on screen with his baritone and towering personality. But Hrithik is not scared of comparisons with Bachchan as he has added his own style to the character.
"If during the shoot I had comparisons in my mind, then I would be scared. But I have done this role like methere is nobody in the world like me.
So your individual way has to stand apart from anything else," he said. The original despite having a stellar cast like Bachchan, Danny Denzongpa and Mithun Chakraborty, failed at the box office.
But the performance of Bachchan and Danny got etched in the minds of audience. So is Hrithik in awe of the movie? "I had seen Agneepath twice when it was released.
It is printed in my heart and my mind because the film was so powerful. But this time around I did not see it because it was not necessary as the story is very different," Hrithik said.
"The refreshing part was that the director himself had written a character that was different from the original. The director (Karan Malhotra) did not want a hero, he wanted me to play a common man, a normal man.
A child who grows up to be a man and wants revenge and nothing else," he said. The film, directed by Karan Malhotra, will release on January 26.

(less)Mollywood's CCL video shoot
Many younger stars like Asif Ali, Bala, Vinu Mohan, Nikhil, Bineesh Kodiyeri, Nivin Polly, Manikuttan, Rajeev Pillai, Saiju Kurup and Rajat were present for the shooting. The shoot that began in the morning went on till late the evening, but that didn't fag the spirits of the actors, perhaps because their captain, Lal was especially gung-ho.
Clearly, the stars want to put their best foot forward for the sporting event, and have been taking it no less seriously than their on-screen acts. During the shoot, Lal pointed out the absence of a leg umpire in the frame, which not only displayed the actor's keen presence of mind but also the perfectionist streak in him.
Lead guitarist for A R Rahman, Sanjeev Thomas, has sung and composed the theme music for the Kerala Strikers. The one-and-a-half minute song that will be aired by the end of this month on television, will encompass all the striking features of Kerela, but will be equally appealing to the national audience.
"The lyrics have a mix of both English and Malayalam keeping in view the non-Malayali audience," says Lissy Priyadarshan, yesteryear actor and co-owner of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). The Malayalam actors have great observation power and that is what enables them to slip in so easily in the role of a practised sportsmen, adds Lissy.
Coach Chandrasenan is all praise for the actors. "They are very professional and dedicated.
..
they arrive for practice regularly. Apart from being actors, they have an inborn sportsman in them which just needed a push.
So it was quite an experience to train them," says Chandrsenan. Director Vijay of Kireedam, Madrasapattinam and Deiva Thirumagal fame is directing the theme song, while R Rathnavelu of Vaaranam Aayiram and Enthiran is the cinematagrapher.
Hence, naturally the expectations are sky high. The sensuous Lakshmi Rai who is the brand ambassador of the CCL was also present for the photo shoot.
We saw her bubbling with excitement over the event and gushed that she loved being a part of it. "My co-stars look great in this new avatar.
Their performance on the ground is as good as it is on screen. I am glad about being one of the brand ambassadors of CCL," she exclaims.
While speaking about the captain of the Kerala Strikers, Lakshmi Rai says about Lal, "He is a multi-faceted personality. Be it in films, or as ordinary man or now sports.
..
he merges into any role very easily." A major portion of the shoot is complete.
"Prithviraj's part is the only remaining one that will be completed in Chennai," says Lissy. She also adds that the actors will not let down the hopes of people and are striving hard to win the cup.

(less)Top 10 Bollywood movies of year 2011
One" and " Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara " not only satiated the moviegoer's appetite but also yielded profits for the Hindi film industry. Here IANS lists the top 10 movies of the year: 1.
"Bodyguard": Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor's "Bodyguard" broke the opening day records by earning Rs.22 crore on the first day.
Although the story of the film, directed by Siddique , didn't have much to say, the music as well as the action sequences worked in its favour. Salman's signature dialogue - "Mujh par ek ehsaan karna ki mujh par koi ehsaan na karna" - once again struck a chord with fans.
2. "Ra.
One": World class VFX, amazing graphics, innovative marketing, tie-ups with multiple brands and Shah Rukh Khan as the superhero made sci-fi thriller "Ra.One" a profitable venture.
Another highlight of the film was its music, especially the song "Chamak challo" sung by international rapper Akon. And the marathon promotion by the superstar helped bring people to the theatres.
3. "The Dirty Picture": Her sensuous look shocked, her itsy-bitsy clothes astonished and her double meaning dialogues left audiences gasping for breath, but all this nothwithstanding, Vidya Balan swept both the classes and the masses off their feet with her bold avatar in Ekta Kapoor's "The Dirty Picture".
An unofficial biopic of southern sex symbol Silk Smitha, the film broke the myth that only movies with "Khans" work at the box office. 4.
"Ready": Romantic comedies have been a staple of Hindi films and this year Salman Khan's "Ready" used the recipe to earn profits. Shot in exotic locales of Thailand , director Anees Bazmee's drama about mistaken identity saw Salman romancing Asin Thottumkal amid all the hotch-potch in their lives, thanks to their onscreen relatives.
5. "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara": Focussing on three bachelors dealing with their friendship and romance, the well-scripted film, with a resemblance to real life episodes, was supported by beautiful performances by the talented cast - Hrtihik Roshan, Abhay Deol , Farhan Akhtar , with Kalki Koechlin and Katrina Kaif as their love interests.
Kudos to director Zoya Akhtar for bringing liveliness, happiness and joyfulness with such deftness on screen through an adventurous road film mostly based in Spain. 6.
"Singham": An out-and-out action film, the success of "Singham" proves that there are takers for such films. Based on the "good wins over evil" theme, the actioner takes a dig at the corruption within the police department through two main characters - honest cop Ajay Devgn and Prakash Raj as a corrupt politician.
Director Rohit Shetty's film also marked southern actress Kajal Aggarwal's debut in Bollywood. 7.
" Rockstar ": Give him a good role and he can sink his teeth into it. Ranbir Kapoor proved that again by stepping into the shoes of a musician.
From a cute and simple college boy to a crazy lover to a successful but cynical singer, the young actor proved his mettle in every frame. The film appealed despite a faulty script, which had too many loose ends.
In short, it was Ranbir's film, which launched American Pakistani model in the Bollywood business. Other high points of the movie were A.
R. Rahman's music and Mohit Chauhan's singing.
8. "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan": Not good, not bad - that is how Yash Raj Films' "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" could be described.
Thanks to Imran Khan , Katrina Kaif and Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zaffar's tangled love story woven against the backdrop a wedding, the romantic comedy managed to pull the crowds. The film got mixed reviews, but managed to enter the top grosser list of the year.
9. "Delhi Belly": Replete with cuss words, weird situations, witty dialogues, the experimental movie in the English language targeted the urban audiences, who hailed this free will adult comedy as they identified with the characters of Imran Khan, Kunal Roy Kapoor and Vir Das in the movie.
If director Abhinay Deo faced failure with "Game", this film pulled him out of darkness and Aamir Khan once again proved that he has a knack for choosing the best scripts as a producer. 10.
"Yamla Pagla Deewana": After the 2007 release "Apne", the Deol trio - Sunny, Bobby and Dharmendra - returned to the big screen with the comic caper "Yamla Pagla Deewana" by director Sameer Karnik. Though a small budget film, it received an overwhelming response.
The impeccable comic timing between the father and sons struck a chord with the audiences
(less)The anatomy of Kolaveri
The song's pan-Indian appeal is startling indeed, and can be attributed to the following factors: Its eclectic mix of English lyrics with a Tamil drawl, the accompanying Kuthu beats with the hint of a piano interlude, and the matter-of-fact filming of the video done by Sony India, the promoters of the song. A rough version of the song, says its music director Anirudh Ravichander, was leaked on the internet.
"Tracking the person who had done so is a difficult process, but we managed to." However, the pulse to the song was so overwhelming that he says he would have thanked that person instead, while knowing that the leak could have actually backfired on them.
Karthikeyan R, a software engineer at an IT firm in Bangalore says, "The simple lyrics and catchy beats in the song had me hooked to Why This Kolaveri Di . I am willing to overlook the fact that the English dished out in the song was grammatically incorrect.
" Echoing Karthikeyan's views is Aashish Solanki, founder designer of a city-based online brand strategy organisation. He concurs that he found an instant connection with the song, despite not understanding Tamil.
"The tune was awesome and I was attracted to it instantly." The unconventional lyrics, he says, struck a chord.
"The mishmash of genres in this song is reflective of the typical Indian mindset," Solanki adds. "With TV no longer being the mass-media, it is inevitable that people switch to social networking sites for advertising.
" Enter social networking sites, and you need what is known as a talking point, which, according to Rishabh Malhotra, founding partner of a city-based men's lifestyle website, was inherent in the song. The song had catchy tune and beats, similar to what an earlier chartbuster, Bhaag DKBose , from Delhi Belly had, says Rishabh.
"Such websites provide one-one and one-many connectivity, offering outreach to millions." Refusing that the song became a hit because its lyrics comprised slang English, he says that there is only a limit up to which marketers can promote a song, beyond which the song needs to sell itself.
Online facts of Kolaveri: Clocked a whopping 83,000 views in the first 24 hours it was uploaded to YouTube, which at present, stands at a little over 3.5 million Has at least 1 million likes on the networking website facebook (a conservative estimate on all counts) Has even upstaged Bigg Boss participant Sunny Leone as the latest trend on Twitter! (less)Music review: SRK's RA.One
To cut a long story short, the album delivers big-time as composer duo Vishal-Shekhar pack a killer punch. The film offers 14 tracks, including a few remixes and themes.
It kicks off on a superb note with the already popular number Chammak Challo . A clear winner, the song, which has Hindi, English and Tamil words in the lyrics, makes you groove with it instantly.
international popstar Akon sings in English and surprisingly well in Hindi, making Chammak Challo ride high on its novelty factor. Hamsika Iyer, who has sung for films like Raajneeti and Khoya Khoya Chand in the past, supports him beautifully, accompanying the English-Hindi vocals with a little Tamil strewn in.
Primarily a dance track, Chammak Challo is here to stay. The song also has a couple of remixes, but don't dismiss them as ordinary fare.
A Punjabi Mix adds some bhangra to the beats while DJ Khushi's version, simply titled Chammak Challo Remix , is explosive. A third, international version is what his fans will hear globally--this one is pure Akon, without Hamsika to accompany him.
Then comes Dildaara , a mush melody that seems slightly out of place in this electric (and eclectic), beat-heavy disc. Sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali, it has John Lennon's song Stand by me mixed into it; the makers, who bought the rights for Lennon's iconic song, have done a commendable job with this seemingly odd combination.
A surprise for many fans, Akon shines in his second song, called Criminal , a peppy and upbeat track that also has Vishal Dadlani and Shruti Pathak behind the mike. An amalgamation of Hindi and English lyrics, Criminal is a perfect party number.
Considering that Konvict was the name of Akon's debut album, and the one he remains most famous for, Criminal is one song that should sit right up there on his shelf. It also has a remixed version by DJ Amit.
Bhare naina is the soundtrack's dark horse. It will definitely make you sit up and take notice.
With a sublime cold opening, the track completely turns on its head to become one helluva haunting melody. Over 200 musicians of the famous Prague Philharmonic Choir were flown in from the Czech Republic for its orchestration, which makes it a one-of-its-kind coup for the Indian film industry; Bhare naina becomes the first Indian song to be composed and recorded off shore.
Nandini Srikar and Vishal-Shekhar add vocals to this near-perfect, soulful song. It's a steady, slow number that pans across genres; it's moody and it's brilliant.
Sidd Coutto's Right by your side is perhaps the only ordinary composition. Even then, it's fast-paced and peppy and will have you dancing.
Perhaps the song that defines the whole flavour of RA.One is Raftaarein .
If you thought Chammak Challo is the face of the film then Raftaarein is its soul. Beginning with a classy nod to RD Burman, Vishal Dadlani ramps up your adrenaline.
The RA.One theme we've been hearing in the trailer gets a 70's style treatment with some elekronica to boot.
Probably meant to be a situational song, Raftaarein leaves its mark by jumping out and gobbling the album whole. Up next is Jiya mora ghabraaye -- The Chase , a fusion of rock and semi-classical.
With strong arrangement and impressive vocals by Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani, and the song will be liked by hard rock lovers. As the title suggests, its pacy and is meant to accompany a chase sequence in the film.
Three instrumental themes called Comes the light , I'm on --which is the main RA.One them--and a sad, slow Song of the end wrap up the album.
RA.One , therefore, lives up to expectations and perhaps even surpasses some.
It's more than worth it, it's a winner all the way. Tweet
(less)Puneet Issar returns to direction with 'I Am Singh'
R. Chopra's TV epic "Mahabharat", Puneet has not only directed "I Am Singh", but has also written it.
The film is about young, confident and intelligent Sikh boy Ranveer. His elder brothers, Balbir Singh and Vikram Singh , are US citizens and run a restaurant there.
Ranveer's parents leave for a holiday to the US to meet their sons, but Ranveer doesn't join them. The story takes a turn when Ranveer receives a call from his mother and he comes to know that his brother Vikram is dead, his father is seriously injured and his elder brother Balbir is missing.
The cast of the film also includes Gulzar Chahal, Rizwan Haider, Tulip Joshi, Brooke Johnston and Amy Rasimas. Keeping up with the backdrop of the film, the music album is an interesting mix of songs by Daler Mehendi, Sukhwinder Singh, Mika Singh, Monty Sharma, Sudhakar Dutt Sharma, Arvinder Singh and Sumitra Iyer.
"The album is an interesting mix of music - there is a ghazal track by Rahet Fateh Ali Khan, Daler's song is larger than life and there's a romantic track too. This is what I call a complete package," said Puneet
(less)I only get rape scenes to do: Rakhi Sawant
In a chat with BT, Rakhi admits that she is raring to make it big in Bollywood and hopes to share screen space with south superstars Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi. What's up between you and Mika now? We are not enemies any more, we are friends.
Mika and I decided to bury the hatchet at a Diwali party recently. We made up and greeted each other for the festival.
There were reports that Mika pulled out of a stage show in which you were also making an appearance. If Mika decides to make a video, will you feature in it? I am more than happy to work with him again, if we get a chance.
But this time, I'd like to feature in the video. The Censor board has reportedly objected to your item song Jawani Ki Bank? What do you have to say about this? Just because I am not a Khan, Kapoor or a Bachchan and because I don't have a godfather in the industry, that doesn't mean the Censor Board can target me.
At the moment, I have over 200 films (some with actors like John Abraham and Deepika Padukone) that I can show to the Censor Board which have more vulgarity than my song. Is it true that you are going to Anna Hazare's hometown to show him your item number? Anna Hazare is combating corruption and this is also a kind of corruption.
I am a soft target for the Censor Board and I want to show Anna the other films that I have collected, in which there is far more vulgarity. I want him to judge whether my song is vulgar or not.
Where is your Bollywood career heading? I am very sad to say that so far I have been receiving offers for rape scenes only. And I don't want to do films in which I have to show my body.
I had abandoned the film industry for sometime, to concentrate on my TV career. Now, I am approaching directors, and have hired a new secretary.
Soon you will see me in a film. I do want to act in south films with stars like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi and his son, Ram Charan Teja.
I have high regard for the south film industry because they are very professional. Also, there is no casting couch in the south.
Top actors are doing item numbers and this affects the original item girls. What is your take on this? I started doing item numbers because I didn't get any roles in films.
Now, if Kareena and Katrina start doing item songs, we will be left with nothing. Is Bollywood getting more competitive with young actors entering the industry? Age has got nothing to do with talent.
Age can only be established through passports. I am young, beautiful and talented and I am sure I have a long way to go
(less)John as loggerheads with director Sanjay Gupta
Buzz is the movie's lead actor John Abraham and director Sanjay Gupta are at loggerheads over the opening sequence, which has the former making an abusive reference to the police force. Says the source: "The proposed prologue for Shootout At Wadala has been a source of dispute between the director and his leading man right from the start.
John thinks this won't go down well with his friends in the police department, but Gupta maintains that the film is not an exercise in public relations." Gupta says, "Yes, John does have a problem with the opening sequence, and he has expressed his misgivings openly.
Even Anil Kapoor, who is a part of the opening sequence, has expressed strong reservations about it. But I am quite sure this is the way it is meant to be.
I'm not changing the scene." Earlier the two apparently had a minor difference with regards to a song in the movie.
Says a source: "Mika, who had sung and composed the hit Ae Ganpat number for Shootout at Lokhandwala , was asked to write a new signature tune for its sequel, the opening of which would be identical to the first Ganpati song picturised on Vivek Oberoi. Since the sequel will see John in a tapori avatar for the first time, he didn't want it to have any resemblance to the old song.
John asked Gupta and Mika for a brand new Ganpati song. Gupta relented and came up with a mukhda: Dar dar ke nahin jeene ka.
..
Bhai bole to peene ka ..
." Apparently, John is so excited about this song now that he has decided to hire a dance teacher to help him master tapori-style steps before shooting for it.
But while the matter of the song has been amicable resolved, this opening sequence seems to have become a bone of contention between the two. Our source says both John and Gupta are standing their ground.

(less)Ranbir prays & plays at Nizamuddin Dargah
The duo arrived with Hiren Gandhi of Shree Ashtavinayak, along with several members of the production team. And from what we heard, they were accompanied by 45 bouncers! They were soon joined by singer Mohit Chauhan, the voice behind Ranbir's character Jordan in the flick.
The team first offered a chaadar at Amir Khusrau's tomb, and Imtiaz also placed the movie's music CD near the tomb. After that, all of them joined the special qawwals who were to conclude the four day Urs festival that was going on at the dargah.
Once they all sat down, Ranbir and Mohit also sang the qawwali from the movie "Kun Faaya Kun", which has been shot at the dargah. Later, Ranbir and Imtiaz donned their "Rockstar" jackets, with Ranbir even carrying his Jordan bag! After people started leaving post midnight, the actor-director once again joined the qawwali group to be part of their musical celebrations.
Close to midnight, when Ranbir finally made it to the dargah in-charge Syed Afsar Ali Nizami's office in the premises, we caught up with him, and he said, "I've spent four nights here. The song that you heard right now was shot here and I have a deep attachment to this place.
I'm extremely grateful to Imtiaz, Mohit and AR Rahman who helped me go through the experience of making this song, which is important to the character Janardhan Jhakkhar aka Jordan because that's when he really connects to a superior being." Imtiaz, who was accompanied by wife Priti, told us that he's been coming to the dargah for almost 4-5 years, since the time he started writing the story of "Rockstar".
He added, "I feel some kind of a drive when I come here. The story brought me here and I want to thank Afsar bhai for helping us.
The dargah comes at a juncture in the movie when the internal journey of this character begins and he finds himself spending too much time at the dargah and a certain sense of spirituality enters him and his music without his choice and without his intention. We just felt that we should come here to seek the blessings of the saint, for the music, before it hits the stands.

(less)Ranbir rocks at the live concert of Rockstar
At the concert, Ranbir was accompanied by the Oscar-winning music composer A R Rahman, playback singer Mohit Chauhan, music arranger Ranjit Barot, percussion guru Sivamani and lead actress Nargis Fakhri, among others. Saadda Haq , the song that has become quite a rage among the youth, was the highlight of the concert.
The ecstatic fans could be seen humming the lyrics of the song, when it was being played. Rahman, Mohit Chauhan and Javed Ali then went on to sing Phir Se Ud Chala, Jo Bhi Main, Kun Faaya Kun, Katiyan Karun, Nadaan Parinde and Tum Ho , all songs from the film.
The makers of the film planned the concert as they thought it would be a unique way to promote the film. Ranbir, who is playing Janardhan Jordan, the lead character in the film, is said to have learnt the guitar.
During the announcement of the concert a few days ago, Ranbir had said, "I am not nervous about the concert. But I am excited about sharing stage with A R Rahman.
I believe I am not a rockstar and Rahman sir is a true Rockstar." The film, directed by Imtiaz Ali, stars model Nargis Fakhri in the lead role.
Rockstar also stars late actor Shammi Kapoor, making it the Bollywood legend's last screen appearance. It will release on November 11.

(less)lyricist Irshad Kamil's upset with Imiaz Ali
The lyricist has not been given credit on the cover of the audio CD, which was launched last month, at Nizamuddin Dargah. Kamil's name has been left out on the album cover and on the inner pages.
Instead, the audio CD has given prominent credit to poet Rumi, whose poem was sung by Ranbir. A source informed Mumbai Mirror, "Irshad is very upset about the fact that his name is not mentioned anywhere on the music album.
He has written tracks for all of Imtiaz Ali's previous films - Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal. It was Sandesh Shandilya, music director of Socha Na Tha, who had introduced Irshad to Imtiaz.
" When contacted, Imtiaz said, "It is just a clerical error and sometimes it happens when things are not in our hands. Irshad is my only friend, who has been there with me from the start.
In the next lot of the audio CDs, we are going to rectify this mistake." T-Series owns the music rights of the film.
When the company's head honcho, Bhushan Kumar was questioned about the missing credit on the album cover, he told us, "This is the fault of the producer, who needed to look at the cover. The album covers are made by the publicity designer and he must have forgotten about it.
Also, we don't have the control to change it. The same mistake happened during Mausam, but I saw it and immediately got it rectified.
" With regard to rectifying the error on the second lot of Rockstar audio CDs, Kumar said, "The second lot has not yet come to us." Kamil, however, is not the only one who has had to face such a situation.
In the past, music composer, Sagar Desai, filed a case in the Delhi High Court against Sony Music, Fox Star Studios and Phat Phish for not accrediting him as the original music composer of the film Quick Gun Murugan in the CDs, posters, theatrical prints and website. Irshad Kamil, who currently in Greece , was unavailable for comment

(less)I dance to Chammak Challo: Shah Rukh Khan
One music | ra one songs | ra one music | dildara | Chammak Challo | Akon The makers of Chammak Challo are pleased with the popularity the music of this film is garnering..
. RA.
One music and RA.One songs seem to be the anthem of the day.
Actor Shah Rukh Khan's ambitious venture seem to have begun on a high, melodious note. The famous number - Chammak Challo - rendered by Akon is gaining much popularity and has already climbed the top of the charts.
In fact, Chammak Chalo is increasingly being played at nightclubs, and the foot-tapping beats have become a huge hit with the masses and DJs at large. Another song that's being much applauded is 'Dildara'.
Sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali, Dildara is a beautiful soft love song that can't be missed. The music composers of this album Vishal-Shekhar are more than happy with the response RA.
One is getting. "It gave us great opportunities.
It was a lot of hard work and we are only glad that it's working!" Of the 14 tracks, everyone involved with the film is finding it difficult to pick just one favourite. Shah Rukh Khan at the music launch of RA.
One profusely thanked his entire team and especially the music directors and technicians to bring to celluloid the first Indian super hero flick in 3D. He also thanked his stunt double.
"Everyone does the hard work for me. I just get the benefit.

But the singer is planning to make it special for the actress. Apparently, Ali Zafar had planned to come out with an album and had discussed his plans with actress Katrina Kaif while they were shooting for 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan'.
Katrina was keen that the movie do well, and told Ali Zafar that if 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' lands up being a box office hit, she will feature in his music video. Excited about the whole deal, Ali Zafar was more than confident that the film would do well.
He is heard to have claimed that now that it has indeed made some money at the box office, Kat may have to keep her word and feature in his music video after all. So after her stint as Sheila, and those few seconds in Bodyguard, Kat may be shaking her booty all over again! But this one is going to be even more special, claims Ali Zafar.

"Of course, there is no compulsion that she has to do the music video. It'll just be nice to work together again.

(less)20 million hits for Kolaveri, pa pa pa tweets Dhanush
Then there is the Gujarati version of the song as well. Tweet

(less)I am not a Rockstar: Ranbir Kapoor
I nterestingly, to get into the character - Janardhan Jordan, Ranbir also learnt to play guitar on one song from the film which took him about a year, but the actor who has his feet firmly planted on the ground, repeatedly says, "I am not a rockstar , I am an actor and just expressing myself. My voice in the film, Mohit Chauhan and other acclaimed musicians associated with the film are the real rockstars.
" Ranbir, who is undoubtedly getting ready to claim his legacy, is leaving no stone unturned in taking the film to the audience as it is surely going to make a huge difference to his career. Rockstar is a solo hero film besides being a prestigious banner and talented director Imtiaz Ali (with two big hits) wielding the baton.
And as the actor recently said in an interview that he wants to be the India's biggest star. And o ne of the significant moves is that the actor will be giving his first live performance for the Rockstar concert where the Bollywood heart-throb will perform live in front of thousands of people in Mumbai on November 1.
This is perhaps the most awaited moment for Ranbir's fans. This will end all the speculations about his stage performances.
And obviously, the aim of having this concert is to take the film's music to the audience in a big way. What is more, in another rare move, music maestro and genius A R Rahman will be performing live in concert.
Rahman has specially flown down his talented band to be a part of this concert and is rehearsing with the team currently. Joining Rahman and Ranbir in this concert will be Rahman's long term associate music arranger Ranjit Barot and percussion guru Sivamani.
S adda Haq , the song that has become a rage with the youth will be the highlight of the concert. Jo Bhi Main, Kun Faaya Kun (with the original qawwali singers), Katiyan Karun, Nadaan Parinde and Tum Ho will also be performed at the concert

A song that holds special meaning for you? There are two of them: Beautiful by Christina Aguilera and Perfect by Pink. These songs hold special meaning for me because it depicts what we actors go through.
We are constantly judged and criticised for our looks and the song speaks against this kind of behaviour. One song that always puts you in a good mood? Road Trippin' by Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
What's playing on your mp3 player at the moment? Edward Maya. A music icon you would love to meet and why? Laga Gaga because she has managed to change the music scene altogether.

(less)The original Chikni Chameli
Vaishali Samant , the reining queen of Marathi playback, who had done a fantastic job with Kombdi and had added a fun element to the well-liked Marathi song, agrees, "Kombdi Padali is very popular song with Maharashtrians and I am requested to sing it whenever I go for shows. But now people who had not heard Kombdi earlier also know the song and wherever I go, they point out, 'She's the one - the original Chikni singer' and that really feels great.
" Wouldn't she have liked to sing the Hindi song as well? Vaishali replies, "I would have sung Chikni if I'd been given a chance, and would have added a different flavour to it. Though, Shreya Ghosal has sung this number at her very best, I feel that somewhere the fun element of Kombdi is missing in Chikni.
But then Chikni has Katrina on screen and that is a major plus." Is the comparison between the songs fair? Vaishali says, "We cannot really compare two songs that are sung in different languages.
Each language has its own nuances. Kombdi is a very rustic song with raapchik lyrics and we all had a lot of fun doing this song.
InKombdi, hamne jo mazza kiya, utna maza lene ke options unke (Chikni) ke paas nahi thhe. There was naughtiness and nok-jhok in those Marathi lyrics and I sang the song in that particular rustic way.
" However, she confesses that she is thankful to music directors Ajay-Atul and director Karan Johar for selecting this song for Agneepath. She says, "They could have chosen any other number as an item song.
With Chikni Chameli, this trend of Marathi style item songs will probably be back in Hindi films." Vaishali is also into music direction and is doing director Kedar Shinde's next film, to be released in a few months.
"I had Sonu Nigam sing for one of my compositions. He is an amazing singer and has taken my song to a completely different level.
He said that he wanted to sing more Marathi songs," she says. Earlier Sadhna Sargam, Sonu Kakkar and Shankar Mahadevan have sung for her.
Vaishali says, "After doing my song Shankar had said, 'Vaishali, bahut accha gana aapne gawaya mujhse. And that, from him, is a huge compliment.
" Apart from doing music for movies, Vaishali is also working on a Hindi album. She recently released her latest song Gunguni dhoop that features her in the video, a soft romantic number that happens to be her favourite, says the singer who is known for her fun, high-energy, dhamaal songs.
She signs off, "People do not know the soft romantic side of me and that comes across in my latest release Gunguni dhoop."
(less)Agneepath rare action film with scope for music: Atul-Ajay
If you see action films, where's the scope for music? Even the original Agneepath had three or four songs," Atul Gogavale told IANS on behalf of the duo. "Our album has six songs, and we have tried to maintain a good variety with one intense Ganpati song, one qawwali, one romantic number, another song capturing the emotions of a brother and sister.
..
We wanted to give this album our best because it is very special for us," he added. Ajay-Atul entered the film industry in 2004.
They primarily composed for Marathi films, and earned acclaim for their tunes in the 2009 film Jogwa , for which they won a national award. They have even composed for Bollywood albums like Viruddh, My Friend Pinto and Singham .
But Agneepath , the music rights of which are with Sony Music, is close to their heart for a reason. "We have watched the original Agneepath at least 200 times.
We are so inspired by the aura of that movie and by Mukul S. Anand's background score and can relate with the story so much, that we knew exactly what kind of music we wanted to create for the remake.
"It is almost like a dream come true to recreate that aura, especially because we are such big fans of the film. We wanted to keep the same grandeur of music that people used to listen to in the 1980s, which is missing nowadays.
So we used a lot of live instruments and a lot of percussion to bring that feeling alive," said Atul. Their spicy song Chikni chameli , a Hindi version of their own Marathi hit Kombadi palali , is already a rage on all music channels and radio stations.
The duo is glad that through the movie, they have got the chance to take their Marathi tune beyond regional cinema. "The song is a great move for Marathi cinema because you never had so much confluence of talent within India.
The song is very peppy, and Karan Johar wanted us to do a Hindi version of it for the film. Of course, Katrina Kaif's dance has added to the song and we are glad with the way it has been received," he added.
Agneepath features Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt in key roles. The movie, directed by debutant Karan Malhotra, will release Jan 26 next year.

(less)Filmfare Awards: Rocking evening, great moments
As it turned out, Zindagi..
. cleared the course by winning seven trophies, followed by Rockstar with five and Delhi Belly with four.
The Dirty Picture picked up three. Ranbir Kapoor's and Vidya Balan's bold attempt to break the mould they had been cast in all along and essay roles that had darker shades-he a troubled rock star and she an unapologetic sex bomb-paid off in the form of the Best Actor and Best Actress award for Rockstar and The Dirty Picture.
Ranbir's turn got him a rare double whammy with the Critics' Award for Best Actor as well. Expectedly, Rockstar swept up three music awards too-Best Lyrics, Best Singer (Male) and Best Composer for A R Rahman.
The evening began with a musical tribute to Dev Anand, with Javed Ali of Coke Studio doing a version of Dil ka bhanwar, Aise na mujhe tum dekho and Khoya khoya chand. A ponytailed Shaan , accompanied by Leslie Lewis in a ponytail , stepped up with an ode to Shammi Kapoor with Baar baar dekho, Dil deke dekho and Badan pe sitare.
This year, the hosts were a mixed doubles pair of sorts. There was Shah Rukh minus his regular partner Saif, and Ranbir sans co-anchor Imran.
Still, each new permutation and combination worked just as brightly. SRK and Ranbir dropped from an aerial harness and collided mid-air as sparks flew literally.
SRK ribbed Ranbir, accusing him of overacting and saying that sons of great actors seldom matched up. Ably supported by Karan Johar , Ali Zafar and former Miss India Ankita Shorey, the duo made the audience crack up with their antics.
As always, the event drew an A-list of performers whose flamboyant acts lent glamour to the soiree. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan , there was Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone , who each enacted a medley of their hit numbers.
Having brought their long relationship out of wraps recently, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia, who are to get married on February 3, shortly also put up a spirited pre-nuptial tango that included a song from their forthcoming film Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. The hall resounded with applause when the Lifetime Achievement award was given to veteran actress Aruna Irani .
Back in 1961, few would have thought that the toothy child star of Ganga Jumna, who so enthusiastically sang Insaaf ki dagar pe, would acquire pride of place in Hindi cinema as a talented actor and dancer. "I have spent 56 years in the industry and I am so happy to know that my work is respected and appreciated," she told TOI.
"The charm of this award is very different from that which one gets for one role. It's rather like putting your marks in individual roles aside for the total marks of your career.
" Circa 2011, a veritable annus horribilis as far as the arts and media world was concerned, saw the demise of an unusually high number of performers in the film world, from Dev Anand and Shammi Kapoor to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Jagjit Singh , Bhupen Hazarika and many others. They were remembered through an AV.

(less)Dance to the tunes of Puneet Issar’s I Am Singh
The album is an interesting mix of songs with various composers and singers on board including Daler Mehendi, Sukhwinder Singh, Mika Singh, Monty Sharma, Sudhakar Dutt Sharma, Arvinder Singh and Sumitra Iyer. Sanujeet Bhujabal, marketing director, Sony Music India, says, "We are proud to be associated with I Am Singh.
We feel this project is rich in both content and intent, and we are sure its tremendous music will not only appeal to Sikhs and Punjabis globally, but to all music lovers." Says producer, Thind, "The film has some of the most talented musicians on board.
In a way the music of the film is its USP. It's uplifting and carries the spirit of I Am Singh forward.
" Throwing light on discrimination and racism that Indians have faced abroad, post the 9/ 11 terror strikes in New York that occurred over a decade ago, I Am Singh focuses on how Americans mistook Sikhs to be part of Islamic terrorist groups. The film is set to release on December 2, 2011
