(less)Saif Ali Khan surrenders, charged with assault, granted bail
According to reports, he was questioned, charged with assault and then granted bail. Earlier, the actor got into a scuffle in a five star hotel restaurant last night and apparently punched a man in his face and broke his nose.
A case under section 325 of the IPC had been registered against Saif. The incident took place last night at Wasabi restaurant, Taj Hotel when he, along with Kareena, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora Ladak and a few friends, were having dinner.
Iqbal M Sharma, a temporary resident of Juhu, was sitting with his family at an adjoining table. According to reports, Iqbal complained about the clamour that Saif and his friends made.
This ticked off Saif and a scuffle broke between the two. Saif, reportedly, told Iqbal to go to a library to find quiet.
Some reports suggested that the fight actually broke between Amrita Arora Ladak's husband Shakeel Ladak and Iqbal. But it was only when Saif intervened that he got into a brawl with Iqbal.
Post the scuffle, Iqbal lodged a complaint that Saif and two of his associates assaulted him with fist blows, causing fracture to his nose. A case has been registered against the actor with the Colaba police station.
According to Times Now, Iqbal M Sharma is the deputy director of department of trade & investment, South Africa. He is a South African national of Indian origin.
Iqbal told Times Now that Saif and his friends abused him and his father-in-law verbally and assaulted them physically. (less)I'm not competing with Salman Khan: Kulraj Randhawa
Her character is shown to be fearless, bubbly and extremely talkative."I play a dabangg girl, she doesn't care what she is getting into.
But I am not competing with Salman Khan, he remains the original dabangg," she states, flashing her dimpled smile. "Everybody wants to have a piece of Chandni because she is happy and always ready to help others.
She has the best of solutions for everything. Her energy is so infectious that everybody wants to fall in love with her," says the actress about her character.
But she adds that playing Chandni wasn't easy. "Chandni had to be loveable yet not irritating.
She is innocent yet funny, witty and sharp. So while I had to strike the right balance, I didn't want to overact either.
Also, I didn't ape any actress who has played a similar role in the past," explains the actress. It was veteran actor Anupam Kher and his acting school that helped her get into the character.
"I was working with a huge cast with several senior actors. It was not just about playing the lead but essaying the title role of someone who binds the characters together," Kulraj adds Produced and directed by Samir Karnik, Chaar Din Ki Chandni is slated to release on March 9
(less)B'town filmakers turn ad maker
Tremendous control over the medium has enabled Bollywood to get some big bucks from a talented lot of ad filmmakers who turned directors and vice versa. Now the tables have turned and how! Filmmakers Abhinay Deo, Dibakar Banerjee, Imtiaz Ali, Tarun Mansukhani, Bejoy Nambiar and Rajkumar Hirani are also directing TVCs even as they continue their B-Town stint.
Imtiaz directed Neetu Kapoor and Jimmy Shergill in a bank ad, Tarun Mansukhani directed Kareena Kapoor and Karan Johar in a paint commercial, Dibakar directed Imran Khan in a cola ad, Hirani directed Sharman Joshi in a soft drink ad and Bejoy directed MS Dhoni and his wife Sakshi in a bike ad. Abhinay says, "Filmmaking is about how the fat is thrown out and the meat is presented to the audiences.
We can't afford to splurge in advertising. Ad filmmakers understand nuances like color coordination well.
And most importantly content comes first, technique comes later." Says adman Prahlad Kakar, "While ad filmmakers are more educated than regular Bollywood filmmakers and more professional, when a Bollywood filmmaker directs an ad, their connection with celebs comes to the platter of ad filmmaking.
Actors don't throw starry tantrums with known filmmakers when they do an ad." Abhinay however refutes the claim and says as an ad filmmaker he never tries "to consciously work with celebs.
In that case, the celeb becomes the script and the ad has no further scope." R Balki, a creative director of a leading ad agency feels, "The mindset of a person watching an ad and a film is different.
Otherwise both the mediums involve storytelling and they are not very different. Ad films teach you to communicate a concept and if it is about big bucks then ad filmmaking is also about big bucks.
" Well, as along as viewers get wholesome entertainment in a 30 second TVC with a starry cast and tampered with some master storytelling and smart packaging, it's a win-win situation for everyone involved
(less)Saif Ali Khan arrested for assaulting businessman, released on bail
A battery of top police officers were waiting for the actor, besides the media and scores of fans outside the police station. In the afternoon, police sent a team to Saif's house and after failing to locate him there, had ordered him to appear before it as early as possible.
Saif was virtually declared 'wanted' for assaulting South African NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma , who is also the director general and CEO of the Trade, Industry & Investments of South Africa. The actor has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly assaulting Sharma in the Taj Mahal Hotel around 1 am on Wednesday morning.
Police said a case of assault had been registered at the Colaba police station. After his release the actor in a statement said, "There was an ugly incident last night where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted.
I was hit and I defended myself. I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law abiding citizen.

I don't think any gentleman would have behaved differently" Police are also questioning staff at the hotel and examining the CCTV footage. Legal experts that the offences for which Saif has been booked are bailable.
Sharma told Times Now television that Saif called him an "idiot" for complaining about the actor's loud conduct at a restaurant in the Taj Mahal Hotel. He said he and his family had requested the restaurant manager to ask Saif and his friends, which included Kareena, Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan, to keep their voices down.
Sharma said he and his family decided to move to another part of the restaurant downstairs. "As we were going down the stairs, Saif was coming up, probably from the toilet.
As he passed me, he called me an idiot and asked 'Do you know who I am?'" Sharma said the actor first pushed him and then assaulted his father-in-law who fell on the stairs and bruised his jaw. "It was an uncivilized way to behave in a public space," Sharma said, adding that he intended to pursue the matter legally.
A police officer confirmed that Sharma and his guests had objected to the noise created by Saif and his friends. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Saif has been involved in public spats earlier too, including some photojournalists in Patiala in September 2008. The actor has won the Padma Shri award, which did not go down well with the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan as he is accused of killing a blackbuck -- an animal the Bishnois hold sacred.

(less)Amitabh Bachchan anxious about abdominal surgery
The actor said he will get a CT scan done on Friday, and the rest of the procedure will be decided based on those results. Bachchan, however, has not revealed what hospital he will be treated at.
Representatives of both hospitals he has been known to frequent - Lilavati and Seven Hills - said they weren't aware of where he will be admitted. Dr Jayant Barve, gastroenterologist at Lilavati, who has treated Bachchan in the past, said, "I am not aware about any such surgery he is undergoing.
" Gastrointestinal oncologist and family doctor Dr P Jagannath, who operated on Bachchan in 2005, said, "I have no idea about the blog post or the surgery." In the post, the actor said that his extended family (referred to in his blog as Ef or FmXT) was being informed of the surgery.
"There were some medical procedures today as well, for, and this is being disclosed to the Ef at this point of time, a surgery that I shall be undergoing on the 11th," the post reads. "I do not wish to talk much on my medical condition, but trust and faith in my FmXt allows me to do so.
" Bachchan added that the next few weeks are going comprise a series of trips to the hospital. "The surgery they say is not too complicated, but then all doctors say the same as you end up on the operating table and before long the details and the subsequent anxieties begin to rise.
..
A pain in the abdomen has to be investigated tomorrow under a CT scan and then and only then shall the ok for the surgery be given..
. So the next few weeks shall be full of hospital and medical bulletins.

He remained in the hospital for months. He was also hospitalised in 2005 for diverticulitis of the small intestine.
Referring to the previous surgeries, Bachchan added that he has been troubled by stomach ailments for a long time. "It's a war zone, my body, and one which has been through a great deal and still does.
I sometimes lament the fact that I do not have the benefit of a complete and ailment free body structure, and I wonder how wonderful it would be to be normal again." He goes on to say that he accepts his fate with a smile, and is glad that the Almighty gave him courage to deal with his ailments.
"That courage, wrapped as it were, in the love and prayers of well wishers has pulled me through on several occasions and on this one too I solicit similar." Though Lilavati has denied Bachchan's admission, a source said that the actor frequently visits the hospital for check-ups.
The source said last month Bachchan spent two hours in the hospital and was examined by both Dr Barve and Dr Jagannath. Word is also doing the rounds that this time Bachchan will be admitted to Seven Hills, the same hospital where his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan delivered her child.
However Dr Bhujang Pai, Vice President of the hospital, said, "He will not be admitted here. This is just a rumour.

(less)Kutcher sets sitcom record; Sheen roast a big draw
7 million people on Monday (September 19). The Nielsen Co.
said Tuesday that was more than any other episode in the show's first eight seasons, when Sheen was the star. The sitcom's previous best came in May 2005 following the final episode of Everybody Loves Raymond .
Meanwhile, Sheen appeared Monday as the "victim" of a Comedy Central roast that reached 6.4 million people.
That is the second most-watched telecast in the cable network's history, behind only Jeff Dunham's holiday special in 2008. The season-opening episode of Two and a Half Men , television's most popular comedy, was much anticipated.
Producers kept it a secret how they would kill off Sheen's character and introduce Kutcher's. Sheen had been fired from the show last season for drug use and erratic behavior.
He launched a weeks long tirade against his bosses, including show creator Chuck Lorre, and Lorre got revenge in Monday's episode. Sheen's Charlie Harper character was killed when he was hit by a subway train in Paris.
Meanwhile, Kutcher appeared as an Internet billionaire unsuccessful in a suicide attempt over a crumbled relationship. He fell right into the show's randy ways, picking up two women during a bar visit that same night.
The success of Two and a Half Men gave a boost to the premiere of CBS' new comedy 2 Broke Girls that followed it. That show had an audience of 19.
4 million, the largest audience for a fall sitcom premiere since Inside Schwartz a decade ago. The veteran CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother had its best season premiere numbers.
By contrast, the season premiere of Hawaii Five-0 had a relatively modest audience of 12 million. Subsequent episodes will reveal Kutcher's ability to build on the blockbuster opening.

I don't think that he's working with the best writing because [Lorre is] doing too many shows. He and [Jon Cryer] and [Angus T.

Halle did not attend the proceedings and her lawyer Blair Berk has refused to comment, E! News reports. James was caught on the property three times in three days, and on one occasion broke into her guest house.
He was also caught spying on Halle through a kitchen door, which caused her to call police. She subsequently gained a restraining order against him, stopping him from coming within 500 yards of her home and family, including three-year-old daughter Nahla.
Speaking earlier this month, Los Angeles Police Department Detective John Gregozek was called to testify during a preliminary hearing to establish if he should stand trial. He said: "She was afraid for her safety and that of her daughter, as well.
She hired armed security to stay at her residence 24 hours. She saw the defendant standing at the kitchen door.

(less)Ashton Kutcher makes his big "Men" debut
Jones playing Cryer's son. Series creator Chuck Lorre seemed to get revenge for Sheen's spectacular, insult-spewing exit last spring with a series of insults.
Monday's premiere picked up at the funeral for now-deceased Charlie Harper (Sheen), who we learn was hit by a subway train and "exploded like a balloon full of meat," according to the possibly psychotic woman he'd run off with in the middle of season eight. Kutcher plays Internet billionaire Walden Schmidt, who appeared at the doorway of Harper's old home wet from a suicide attempt in the ocean.
It seems Schmidt may be tall, good looking and rich, but he's morose about a lost love. Cryer's character, Alan Harper, takes Schmidt out for a drink, where Schmidt meets two women and brings them home to Harper's home.
"I dig your house," he said. "I'm going to buy it.
" At the Emmys on Sunday night, troubled star Charlie Sheen shocked many. He had nothing but words of support for his former Two and a Half Men colleagues.
It began backstage, where the actor who was fired from TV's hit sitcom, tweeted a picture with Ashton Kutcher who will play an Internet billionaire with a broken heart named Walden Schmidt as he joins the cast this season. Sheen tweeted: Giving the new kid a little advice.

On stage, before his presentation for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Sheen said: "I want to take a moment to get something off my chest and say a few words to everybody here from Two and a Half Men . From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season.
We spent eight wonderful years together and I know you will continue to make great television." Sheen posted another pic with Ashton and tweeted: "Seriously.

@aplusk great talking to you! We'll all be watching! Make us proud!!" Acknowledging Sheen's tweets, Kutcher tweeted: "@charliesheen good to meet you too. Wishing you the best on your new gig.
" That done, he tweeted on the much-awaited premiere: "2.5 men airs tonight!!! I'm really excited for you all to see what we've been working on.
" Meanwhile, when asked by television show host Matt Lauer whether he was open to a cameo on the show, Sheen said, "Absolutely. If they wanted or needed it or thought that was a good idea, I'd be completely on board for that.
There's your closer. I'll be in the final episode," he said.

(less)Ashton Kutcher unreachable after split
Cryer, who has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award, is yet to tell his co-star the news. "As you could imagine, Ashton is off the grid and completely unreachable for a couple of weeks, so I will text him repeatedly saying, 'Dude, I got nominated.
' We'll see what his reaction is when I can finally reach him," Cryer said. Kutcher replaced Charlie Sheen in the series, after he was fired from the show.
But Cryer says he will always be grateful to his former co-star. "If I win, of course I am going to thank Charlie.
When they gave me a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I thanked him. I'm still grateful for the guy.
We had a great working relationship, and I still wish him nothing but the best," he said. Tweet

Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men in March last year after a frenzy of reports on his controversial personal life and drug abuse. Production for the show was suspended when Sheen joined rehab for reported alcohol and drug abuse.

(less)Mohanlal and Azhikode patch up
All the issues have been settled," Mohanlal's business partner Alex K.Babu told IANS.
The mutual settlement has come after Azhikode was detected with cancer of the spinal cord and is currently admitted to a private hospital here. The war of words between the duo broke out last year when Azhikode came out in support of thespian actor Thilakan who was served a showcause notice by AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) and subsequently booted out of the film actor's body on grounds of indiscipline.
The first salvo was fired by Azhikode against Mohanlal when he said that the actor has become old and should limit himself to roles matching his age and figure. The superstar was called a mentally deranged person by Azhikode.
He also added that Mohanlal should stop making money through endorsements of jewellery brands. Mohanlal had hit back saying that Azhikode must be having some 'hallucination', and he considered Azhikode's statements as some 'aged uncle's joke', and that whether he should stop acting was not a matter for Azhikode to decide.
Azhikode had filed a defamation case against the actor while a legal notice was served on Mohanlal asking him to either apologise or face legal action. Azhikode in 1986 retired as Pro-Vice Chancellor of Calicut University, his oratorical skills are unmatched and have been a crowd puller.
A bachelor, Azhikode has won twelve awards including the Indian Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahithya Academy Award, Vayalar Award and the Rajaji Award. In January 2007 he refused to accept the Padma Shri conferred on him stating that such honours are against the Constitution.

"I'm seeing my kids a lot more, mending fences with Denise and Brooke, just trying to move forward and prioritise what matters.
I think that's where the life is. It's not the giant TV deal or the big party or the award or whatever, it's the memory of your child's smile at the end of the day that sort of brings that one lonesome tear," he added.

Meanwhile, Charlie's ex-wife, Brooke Mueller - with whom he has two-year-old twin sons Bob and Max - is entering a programme of outpatient rehab, which includes daily drug testing and round-the-clock private supervision, following her arrest by police for cocaine possession in Colorado earlier this month. A statement from her publicist said: "Recognising past attempts at treatment have not been successful, Brooke has decided to take a different approach to deal with her addiction.
"Brooke will be participating in a programme during the day, and will be under expert supervision 24 hours a day, seven days a week." Brooke will retain custody of Bob and Max, keeping them at her home along with their nanny while she undergoes treatment.

(less)TOI film critic Nikhat Kazmi passes away
When I went up to Nikhat in her cubby hole on the third floor with the proposal that she write for the new 'happy' Sunday newspaper that was to launch soon, she didn't bat an eyelid. "Sure," she said, smiling.
"How many words do you want and what's the deadline?" And so the very first issue of the Sunday Speaking Tree on February 28, 2010, was launched with Nikhat's story as its lead. In 'Reel Soup For The Soul' she effortlessly walked the reader through deep spiritual insights that ran like subterranean streams beneath the plots in recently released films like Avatar , The Dark Knight, My Name Is Khan and Three Idiots .
And the last issue of that year, on December 26, once again had Nikhat sharing her views on why we are no longer shy of admitting shades of grey in our celluloid heroes. She called it 'Nothing Absolute,'-- referring to films like Dabangg, Rajneeti, Raavan, The Immortal, Inception and Wall Street 2 whose protagonists, unlike conventional 'good boy' heroes, revealed negative streaks.
Nikhat Kazmi might have grown to become an iconic film critic through the columns of The Times of India but to most of us in the Times family, the taciturn lady from Allahabad was an ever-obliging colleague. She would happily pitch in with stories or editorials on entertainment, drawing on her daunting reserve of information from having seen thousands of films and interacted with as many creative people from the industry.
From reporter and special correspondent to head of The Sunday Times of India (STOI), Delhi Times and more recently the Newspaper In Education edition of TOI, her versatility as writer and editorial leader has never been in question. A colleague who was a rookie foreign affairs desk person when Nikhat was leading STOI recollects one Saturday night when she failed to make the designated page despite the deadline drawing dangerously close.
Unable to deliver, she went to Nikhat and confessed, wringing her hands in despair. "Nikhat was so cool," she remembers.
"All she said was, 'Show me the page. Here, put this picture there; cut four lines from here, shorten that heading.
..
' Lo and behold, it was all done in a matter of minutes. She could have yelled at me or something, but she didn't.
" Always elegantly turned out, she would acknowledge your greeting with a nod, her kohl-lined eyes creasing into a smile that would vanish just as soon as it appeared, as she focused on work at hand. Her trademark attire was those neatly starched chikan-worked kurtas and churidars and long skirts when she was not the lady in black.
We'll miss you Nikhat

Speculations have been rife about his love life ever since John and Bipasha ended their 10-year-long relationship. John even admitted to having dated a few women post the break-up, but nothing beyond that.
However, now we know that investment banker Priya Marwah is someone he wants to spend his life with. The actor was seen with her for the first time in public at an event associated with the Mumbai Marathon.
Says a source, "It is the first time in all these months that he has been seen with a girl, who is not an actress. The minute they stepped out at the event, it was pretty obvious that she was the one.
People were curious about the mystery lady in his life, and finally they have got a glimpse of her." Recently there were rumours about John getting engaged to Priya, but there has been no confirmation yet.
In an earlier interview, John said to us, "I would never date an actress." When asked about marriage plans, he said, "I may even surprise or shock you people very soon.
You never know..
