(less)Saif Ali Khan surrenders, charged with assault, granted bail
According to reports, he was questioned, charged with assault and then granted bail. Earlier, the actor got into a scuffle in a five star hotel restaurant last night and apparently punched a man in his face and broke his nose.
A case under section 325 of the IPC had been registered against Saif. The incident took place last night at Wasabi restaurant, Taj Hotel when he, along with Kareena, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora Ladak and a few friends, were having dinner.
Iqbal M Sharma, a temporary resident of Juhu, was sitting with his family at an adjoining table. According to reports, Iqbal complained about the clamour that Saif and his friends made.
This ticked off Saif and a scuffle broke between the two. Saif, reportedly, told Iqbal to go to a library to find quiet.
Some reports suggested that the fight actually broke between Amrita Arora Ladak's husband Shakeel Ladak and Iqbal. But it was only when Saif intervened that he got into a brawl with Iqbal.
Post the scuffle, Iqbal lodged a complaint that Saif and two of his associates assaulted him with fist blows, causing fracture to his nose. A case has been registered against the actor with the Colaba police station.
According to Times Now, Iqbal M Sharma is the deputy director of department of trade & investment, South Africa. He is a South African national of Indian origin.
Iqbal told Times Now that Saif and his friends abused him and his father-in-law verbally and assaulted them physically. Hawaldar Welkar of the Colaba Police station in Mumbai confirmed the news and told us, "Yes, a case was registered against Saif Ali Khan by Iqbal Sharma , last night for some fight that took place between them in Hotel Taj last night.
Rest of the details are with my boss ACP Iqbal Sheikh." When contacted ACP Iqbal Sheikh said, "We are conducting an inquiry into the matter and we will be questioning every one involved in this case.
If required we will be arresting who ever is at fault." Meanwhile the people at Wasabi refused to comment on the incident.
Pankaj Singh , the floor manager at the Wasabi said, "I wasn't here last night so I don't know about anything that happened at the restaurant nor have I heard anything from anyone here."

(less)I was abused, assaulted: Saif Ali Khan
I was hit and I defended myself. I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law-abiding citizen.
I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done. I have seen the interviews given on TV and they look like decent people and I cannot believe that the same people were so aggressive the night before and the lies that they are saying about me with such straight faces.
I think they have the CCTV footage in the restaurant that will prove everything. I hope the media is able to remain impartial while the matter is being decided.
I don't think any gentleman would have behaved differently. (As told to TOI's Bharati Dubey)

(less)I'm not competing with Salman Khan: Kulraj Randhawa
Her character is shown to be fearless, bubbly and extremely talkative."I play a dabangg girl, she doesn't care what she is getting into.
But I am not competing with Salman Khan, he remains the original dabangg," she states, flashing her dimpled smile. "Everybody wants to have a piece of Chandni because she is happy and always ready to help others.
She has the best of solutions for everything. Her energy is so infectious that everybody wants to fall in love with her," says the actress about her character.
But she adds that playing Chandni wasn't easy. "Chandni had to be loveable yet not irritating.
She is innocent yet funny, witty and sharp. So while I had to strike the right balance, I didn't want to overact either.
Also, I didn't ape any actress who has played a similar role in the past," explains the actress. It was veteran actor Anupam Kher and his acting school that helped her get into the character.
"I was working with a huge cast with several senior actors. It was not just about playing the lead but essaying the title role of someone who binds the characters together," Kulraj adds Produced and directed by Samir Karnik, Chaar Din Ki Chandni is slated to release on March 9
(less)B'town filmakers turn ad maker
Tremendous control over the medium has enabled Bollywood to get some big bucks from a talented lot of ad filmmakers who turned directors and vice versa. Now the tables have turned and how! Filmmakers Abhinay Deo, Dibakar Banerjee, Imtiaz Ali, Tarun Mansukhani, Bejoy Nambiar and Rajkumar Hirani are also directing TVCs even as they continue their B-Town stint.
Imtiaz directed Neetu Kapoor and Jimmy Shergill in a bank ad, Tarun Mansukhani directed Kareena Kapoor and Karan Johar in a paint commercial, Dibakar directed Imran Khan in a cola ad, Hirani directed Sharman Joshi in a soft drink ad and Bejoy directed MS Dhoni and his wife Sakshi in a bike ad. Abhinay says, "Filmmaking is about how the fat is thrown out and the meat is presented to the audiences.
We can't afford to splurge in advertising. Ad filmmakers understand nuances like color coordination well.
And most importantly content comes first, technique comes later." Says adman Prahlad Kakar, "While ad filmmakers are more educated than regular Bollywood filmmakers and more professional, when a Bollywood filmmaker directs an ad, their connection with celebs comes to the platter of ad filmmaking.
Actors don't throw starry tantrums with known filmmakers when they do an ad." Abhinay however refutes the claim and says as an ad filmmaker he never tries "to consciously work with celebs.
In that case, the celeb becomes the script and the ad has no further scope." R Balki, a creative director of a leading ad agency feels, "The mindset of a person watching an ad and a film is different.
Otherwise both the mediums involve storytelling and they are not very different. Ad films teach you to communicate a concept and if it is about big bucks then ad filmmaking is also about big bucks.
" Well, as along as viewers get wholesome entertainment in a 30 second TVC with a starry cast and tampered with some master storytelling and smart packaging, it's a win-win situation for everyone involved
(less)Saif Ali Khan arrested for assaulting businessman, released on bail
A battery of top police officers were waiting for the actor, besides the media and scores of fans outside the police station. In the afternoon, police sent a team to Saif's house and after failing to locate him there, had ordered him to appear before it as early as possible.
Saif was virtually declared 'wanted' for assaulting South African NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma , who is also the director general and CEO of the Trade, Industry & Investments of South Africa. The actor has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly assaulting Sharma in the Taj Mahal Hotel around 1 am on Wednesday morning.
Police said a case of assault had been registered at the Colaba police station. After his release the actor in a statement said, "There was an ugly incident last night where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted.
I was hit and I defended myself. I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law abiding citizen.
I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done. I have seen the interviews given on TV and they look like decent people and I cannot believe that the same people were so aggressive the night before and the lies that they are saying about me with such straight faces.
I think they have the cc tv footage in the restaurant that will prove everything. I hope the media is able to remain impartial while the matter is being decided.
I don't think any gentleman would have behaved differently" Police are also questioning staff at the hotel and examining the CCTV footage. Legal experts that the offences for which Saif has been booked are bailable.
Sharma told Times Now television that Saif called him an "idiot" for complaining about the actor's loud conduct at a restaurant in the Taj Mahal Hotel. He said he and his family had requested the restaurant manager to ask Saif and his friends, which included Kareena, Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan, to keep their voices down.
Sharma said he and his family decided to move to another part of the restaurant downstairs. "As we were going down the stairs, Saif was coming up, probably from the toilet.
As he passed me, he called me an idiot and asked 'Do you know who I am?'" Sharma said the actor first pushed him and then assaulted his father-in-law who fell on the stairs and bruised his jaw. "It was an uncivilized way to behave in a public space," Sharma said, adding that he intended to pursue the matter legally.
A police officer confirmed that Sharma and his guests had objected to the noise created by Saif and his friends. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Saif has been involved in public spats earlier too, including some photojournalists in Patiala in September 2008. The actor has won the Padma Shri award, which did not go down well with the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan as he is accused of killing a blackbuck -- an animal the Bishnois hold sacred.
Saif was charged with poaching as the blackbuck is on the endangered list

Don is too iconic: Farhan Akhtar
As an actor, post the accolades he got for ZNMD, new doors are being opened to him. Excerpts from an interview.
Your performance in ZNMD got you noticed as an actor by both the trade and the janta. I admit a lot more awareness has been created about me as an actor.
It's nice to be present in people's consciousness as a casting option now. You are no longer just a casting option.
There are roles being written for you. No one ever comes and tells me they've written a role for me.
So it is dangerous to start thinking like that. It is better not to let your mind wander into these areas.
But yes, I am happy that Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra thinks that I am best suited to play Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha. So Rakeysh did think of you while writing the part.
..
Actually, as filmmakers we tend to write a script with an actor in mind. When I was writing the first part of Don, I wrote it with a certain actor in mind.
When I was halfway through, I felt it was best suited to another actor, and when I finished I felt it suited a third one. Scripts take on a life of their own.
It happens very naturally. When you are writing, you do start imagining someone because you need to.
One writes keeping some kind of personality or body type in mind. There has to be a face.
If I have become a face for people to write towards, I am happy. Are you splitting your actor's fee with Zoya because she's the one who gave you ZNMD? Splitting the money with my sister? No.
Zoya made all the money on ZNMD. I have still not been paid my acting fees! What excites you more - acting or directing? My social networking pages have all kinds of comments on them.
Some say acting karo, direction chhod do; others say why are you acting, concentrate on making movies. Everyone has their own take.
My inner voice says I should do whatever excites me - whether it is acting or directing. So what excites you? It is very difficult to say.
I am excited about finishing Don 2 . I am getting increasingly excited about starting Bhaag Milkha.
That takes care of a year and a half of my life. I haven't thought beyond that.
To sustain one's enthusiasm for a year and a half is very difficult. So you will do just one film at a time? Yes, especially because Bhaag Milkha has such a specific look.
It is very difficult to even think of anything else. Besides, it is always nicer to finish something you start before moving on.
It is also fairer to the people who are making the film that you give them one hundred per cent of your time, commitment, whatever is on offer from your end. Whether I direct or act, it will be one film at a time.
Contd. on pg10 You are also in talks with Abhishek Kapoor, isn't it? Abhishek is excited about doing a sequel to Rock On!! I have heard the story and it is very good.
A screenplay draft is being worked on. As an actor, is there a specific genre you see yourself excelling in? I can't do Don.
It is too iconic for an actor like me. When I think of Don, I think of SRK.
I would love to do an action movie and a thriller. I've grown up watching it.
What about the romance, masala movie? There are songs in Bhaag Milka as well. Songs are a part of Hindi film culture, but as far as genres go, the classic love story is my least favourite; in terms of watching, directing or acting.
Unless it is something spectacular, I will be drawn to something else. Having said that, I must add that scripts come with their pros and cons.
Sometimes you can't say no because it is so amazing. So who is Farhan the actor's favourite actor? I like many actors.
All actors have their own strengths. But I do enjoy watching Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn purely for the fact that when you see their body of work and the body of work of most other actors, you notice that these guys bring something new to the table by way of a story or character.
I love the way Ajay keeps reinventing himself as an actor. I would hate to watch the same kind of performance over and over again.
An actor must keep challenging himself if he wishes to have a really long innings. Even as a filmmaker, I believe in mixing genres.
A film must be entertaining. When I say entertaining, I don't mean that you should only make people laugh.
You can enthrall them with drama or comedy. There should be a sense of variety in storytelling and performance.

(less)Sanjay Gupta, Kunal Kohli fight over Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
He said, "One day before the awards, the entire jury was having a discussion over which film should win Best Picture. When I walked in, I strongly opposed giving the award to the film.
Not just because I knew it strongly resembles the 1985 film Fandango , but also because The Dirty Picture according to me was a much deserving film. Also, when Shekhar Kapur saw how similar Fandango and ZNMD looked, he put his foot down and said that the film should be out of the race.
Even other jury members like John Mathew Mathan, Bhanu Athaiya and Pradeep Sarkar agreed. However, post this discussion, one jury member made calls to the rest and tried to influence their decision.
" The filmmaker said, "Shekhar even suggested that ZNMD can be given a special jury mention, and The Dirty Picture could be given the award, but even that wasn't accepted." Kunal Kohli reacted to Gupta's statement by saying, "Sanjay Gupta can say whatever he wants, but what happens within the jury will stay there.
It shouldn't be spoken about in public. I am just one member and I don't know how it is possible for me to influence everyone.
They all have their own opinions." He also hinted at the fact that Sanjay may have a personal interest in The Dirty Picture , since the latter's next is being produced by Balaji Telefilms.
He said, "By the way, who is producing Sanjay Gupta's next film?" Shekhar Kapur, the chairman of the jury added, "When we sign on as jury members we have a confidentiality clause. I won't break that by speaking about what transpired between us.
" However, sources said that Farhan and Zoya feel they have been dragged into a pointless argument between the two filmmakers. A source added, "They did not accept the award because it was for Best Picture and not Best Pictures.
They were not comfortable sharing the title." Tweet

(less)Top 10 Bollywood movies of year 2011
One" and " Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara " not only satiated the moviegoer's appetite but also yielded profits for the Hindi film industry. Here IANS lists the top 10 movies of the year: 1.
"Bodyguard": Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor's "Bodyguard" broke the opening day records by earning Rs.22 crore on the first day.
Although the story of the film, directed by Siddique , didn't have much to say, the music as well as the action sequences worked in its favour. Salman's signature dialogue - "Mujh par ek ehsaan karna ki mujh par koi ehsaan na karna" - once again struck a chord with fans.
2. "Ra.
One": World class VFX, amazing graphics, innovative marketing, tie-ups with multiple brands and Shah Rukh Khan as the superhero made sci-fi thriller "Ra.One" a profitable venture.
Another highlight of the film was its music, especially the song "Chamak challo" sung by international rapper Akon. And the marathon promotion by the superstar helped bring people to the theatres.
3. "The Dirty Picture": Her sensuous look shocked, her itsy-bitsy clothes astonished and her double meaning dialogues left audiences gasping for breath, but all this nothwithstanding, Vidya Balan swept both the classes and the masses off their feet with her bold avatar in Ekta Kapoor's "The Dirty Picture".
An unofficial biopic of southern sex symbol Silk Smitha, the film broke the myth that only movies with "Khans" work at the box office. 4.
"Ready": Romantic comedies have been a staple of Hindi films and this year Salman Khan's "Ready" used the recipe to earn profits. Shot in exotic locales of Thailand , director Anees Bazmee's drama about mistaken identity saw Salman romancing Asin Thottumkal amid all the hotch-potch in their lives, thanks to their onscreen relatives.
5. "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara": Focussing on three bachelors dealing with their friendship and romance, the well-scripted film, with a resemblance to real life episodes, was supported by beautiful performances by the talented cast - Hrtihik Roshan, Abhay Deol , Farhan Akhtar , with Kalki Koechlin and Katrina Kaif as their love interests.
Kudos to director Zoya Akhtar for bringing liveliness, happiness and joyfulness with such deftness on screen through an adventurous road film mostly based in Spain. 6.
"Singham": An out-and-out action film, the success of "Singham" proves that there are takers for such films. Based on the "good wins over evil" theme, the actioner takes a dig at the corruption within the police department through two main characters - honest cop Ajay Devgn and Prakash Raj as a corrupt politician.
Director Rohit Shetty's film also marked southern actress Kajal Aggarwal's debut in Bollywood. 7.
" Rockstar ": Give him a good role and he can sink his teeth into it. Ranbir Kapoor proved that again by stepping into the shoes of a musician.
From a cute and simple college boy to a crazy lover to a successful but cynical singer, the young actor proved his mettle in every frame. The film appealed despite a faulty script, which had too many loose ends.
In short, it was Ranbir's film, which launched American Pakistani model in the Bollywood business. Other high points of the movie were A.
R. Rahman's music and Mohit Chauhan's singing.
8. "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan": Not good, not bad - that is how Yash Raj Films' "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" could be described.
Thanks to Imran Khan , Katrina Kaif and Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zaffar's tangled love story woven against the backdrop a wedding, the romantic comedy managed to pull the crowds. The film got mixed reviews, but managed to enter the top grosser list of the year.
9. "Delhi Belly": Replete with cuss words, weird situations, witty dialogues, the experimental movie in the English language targeted the urban audiences, who hailed this free will adult comedy as they identified with the characters of Imran Khan, Kunal Roy Kapoor and Vir Das in the movie.
If director Abhinay Deo faced failure with "Game", this film pulled him out of darkness and Aamir Khan once again proved that he has a knack for choosing the best scripts as a producer. 10.
"Yamla Pagla Deewana": After the 2007 release "Apne", the Deol trio - Sunny, Bobby and Dharmendra - returned to the big screen with the comic caper "Yamla Pagla Deewana" by director Sameer Karnik. Though a small budget film, it received an overwhelming response.
The impeccable comic timing between the father and sons struck a chord with the audiences
(less)Dharamji's honour was long due: Hema Malini
It was long due and I am glad that the government of India is conferring the title to him," Hema told IANS. "He has worked with the best of actors, directors and technicians in his career.
I doubt any other actor can boast of such extensive and successful career in Bollywood. Dharamji is very shy so he doesn't speak much about himself," she added.
The actress married Bollywood's original 'He Man' in 1980 and the couple has two daughters -- Esha and Ahana. "I keep telling him that he must act in more films.
I feel happy when his work gets appreciated. Such kind of national honour is always appreciated," she said.
Dharmendra, 76, is known for films like "Bandini", "Satyakam", "Sholay", "Chupke Chupke" and "Seeta Aur Geeta". He was recently seen in movies like "Yamla Pagla Deewana" and "Tell Me O Kkhuda".
He has been chosen for the prestigious honour along with actress Shabana Azmi and filmmaker Mira Nair in the art-cinema category
(less)I had to express anger and love
The film was about three guys having fun on a road trip and suddenly there came a point where I had to shoot this emotional scene. Throughout the film, my character Imran is this one chilled out guy who never takes life seriously.
And then in this scene I had to interact with my father..
.there was disappointment, anger and to an extent even love.
All these emotions had to be expressed in very few words. It was all fine when Kabir and Arjun (Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol) were in the scene.
The real challenge was facing Naseer Sir alone. But then, Naseer Sir is such a fine actor, it automatically helps the other person perform better.
This was the only scene in the entire film that was so intense. It was shot in Spain.
This scene was one of those that take you to a different emotional plane rather than being just an emotional scene. The scene saw the other part of Imran.
Luckily, we did not need too many retakes. Thanks to Naseerji
(less)Ekta Kapoor takes over from Farhan Akhtar
A source close to the unit has informed us that this change comes in light of the fact that Farhan was too busy to allot time to Mishra's project. "Farhan was shooting for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and then went on to work on Don 2.
Since Farhan is scheduled to work in Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Sudhir thought that it would be best to take the project to Ekta. However, Sudhir and Farhan have ended their collaboration on very amicable terms," added the source.
When contacted, Mishra said, "Yes, I'm likely to do Dhruv with Balaji Films. I've been committed to do a project for them for a very long time.
Ekta and I kept discussing projects. Dhruv seems like the right one.

Farhan Akhtar bagged the Best Supporting Actor (male) for his sensitive and witty portayal of Imran, who has never met his biological father. Deo has been awarded for his second film, Delhi Belly. His first film was the action flick Game .
Released three months before Delhi Belly, Game was a box-office dud. The Best Debut awards for acting were picked up by Parineeti Chopra and Vidyut Jhamwal .

Among the oldest and best-known film awards, the Filmfare Awards were instituted in 1954. This year's main show hosts are pitted against each other in two main categories.
SRK's film Don 2 is up against Ranbir's film Rockstar in the Best Film category. Both have also been nominated in the Best Actor category for their films.
The awards show is being held at the Reliance MediaWorks Studios in Filmcity, instead of Yash Raj Studios, where it was previously held. Other popular contenders in the main categories include this year's favourite picks at other awards held so far - The Dirty Picture and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara - in the Best Film category.

"The Padma Bhushan is a grand honour and our family is really excited after hearing the news because dad totally deserves it," Ahana told IANS over phone from Mumbai. "However, I also want to say that it was a bit too late to remember him for the award as he is not only a nice actor, but also a great human being," added the 26-year-old.
The family has plans to raise a toast to the achievement Wednesday. "I am happy for him and we are definitely going to plan a family dinner tonight to celebrate the achievement," said Ahana, who was born to Dharmendra and actress Hema Malini, and is their second daughter, after Esha.

After making his debut in 1960, Dharmendra, also known as Bollywood's original He Man, went on to do a variety of work. From the lyrical Bandini and the serious Satyakam to comic classics like Chupke Chupke and, of course, the cult entertainer "Sholay", he did it all -- and continues to entertain the audience with his charm.
Among his last releases were Yamla Pagla Deewana and Tell Me O Kkhuda , in both of which he shared the frame with his children. As one of the few actresses who have successfully featured in experimental and mainstream cinema, Shabana, who received the Padma Shri in 1988, will now be honoured with the Padma Bhushan.

However, Kalki does not like to sweat it out in the gym. "Yoga is something I have been doing on-and-off.
For me, it's swimming. Swimming and yoga.
I am not much of a gym person. I don't like to build muscle, but yoga and swimming is what I do," said Kalki, who was last seen in My Friend Pinto .
In 2011, she also garnered praise for her work in her husband Anurag Kashyap's Shaitan and Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara . Just three years old in Bollywood, Kalki carved a niche with her performance in her debut film Dev D (2009) and also walked away with the Filmfare best supporting actress award.
She will next be seen in Dibakar Banerji's Shanghai , releasing Jan 26. She will be seen alongside Emraan Hashmi and her Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara co-star Abhay Deol.

(less)I'm humbled, says Shabana after Padma Bhushan
It feels good," Azmi told IANS. The commercial and mainstream actress, daughter of late writer-lyricist Kaifi Azmi , and wife of the talented wordsmith Javed Akhtar , is also a noted theatre person.
She has proved her versatility time and again through films "Ankur", "Nishant", "Arth", "Masoom", "Godmother" and "Fire" as well as in movies like "Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd", "Sorry Bhai!" and "It's A Wonderful Afterlife" in her over three-decade career. Some of her international projects have included John Schlesinger's "Madame Sousatzka", Nicholas Klotz's "Bengali Night", Roland Joffe's "City of Joy", Blake Edwards' "Son of the Pink Panther".
The five-time National Award winning actress is currently working on Mira Nair's "The Reluctant Fundamentalist", which is under production. Incidentally, Mira Nair also has been named for Padma Bhushan honour this year.
Despite her busy shooting schedules, Shabana keeps herself immersed in social causes, and has spoken for women rights on many occasions. She also runs an NGO, Mijwan Welfare Society, which works for the education and upliftment of the underprivileged

I choose my films on instinct: Naseeruddin Shah
I'm probably being offered better parts now than I was being offered five years ago or for that matter in my 35-year-old career," Naseeruddin, 65, told IANS in an interview. Naseer has given memorable performances in films "Ijaazat", "Sparsh", "Aakrosh", "Karma" and "Masoom", to name a few.
But in recent times, he has been proving his versatility over and over again without bothering about the screen time he gets. Whether it was the role of a cricket coach in " Iqbal", a common man ready to change the system in "A Wednesday", a conman in "Ishqiya" or a painter in " Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", he carried out every role with aplomb.
The length of the role isn't as important for him any more, as he says his priorities as an actor have changed over the years. "When I began my career in films, I had a lot of hopes, most of which have been fulfilled.
The hopes were to play varied roles and to be different in every movie. My priorities over the last 35 years have shifted a little.
"I'm still not averse to play great roles, but that is no longer the most important thing for me. Over the last 10 years I think I have come to a realisation of what an actor's role in a film should be.
That's why I have been participating in any movie that I feel needs support and in which I have faith. The size and the importance of the part has receded to secondary importance for me," said the actor, who received a Padma Bhushan award in 2003 for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Currently he is looking forward to his return as a lead in a film with Anurag Kashyap's production venture " Michael", directed by a newcomer, Ribhu Das Gupta. Naseeruddin plays a tainted cop, whose trials and tribulations have been narrated in the film.
"To get a script like 'Michael', where I was the eponymous character, it was a bonus to be present in practically in every frame. But my real reason for doing the film was because I feel it's a sensible film and it is a film that will be remembered.
"Actors are not remembered as persons but for the roles they do. So at the moment my priority is to be part of movies which will survive the test of time and the ones I am proud of," he added.
There's another criterion behind Naseeruddin's choice of films. "I choose my films on instinct.
My reason to do every film is different. I should just feel like doing it.
I believe in my instincts. When I decide to do a film, I don't think whether that film will work or not or whether it will fetch awards or not.
All I think is how can we make this film a good film." Watch Video'+'';} else {tmpdiV="";} var b1=""; var b2=""; var hid="526"; if(sldemsidcnt>1){imglinksh='View Images';}else{imglinksh='View Image';} var b2 = ''+''+ capt +''+ tmpdiV +''; bellyad.

(less)Vidya Balan & Ranbir Kapoor shine at Filmfare
Imtiaz Ali's musical drama Rockstar won leading man Ranbir Kapoor two trophies (Popular and Critics' Choice), while AR Rahman's score for the film won him his 20th trophy. It was befitting then that Filmfare chose to give the Oscar winner the historic 2,500th statuette encrusted with a diamond.
Clutching two ladies dressed in black - one being wife Saira and the other being the coveted 'Black Lady' Filmfare trophy - the maestro beamed and said, "I'm thrilled!" Playback singer Mohit Chauhan, nominated for Sadda Haq and Jo Bhi Main from Rockstar, picked up the trophy for the latter. Lyricist Irshad Kamil too had two songs up for nomination - Sadda Haq and Nadaan Parindey - with Sadda Haq getting left out again in the Best Lyrics category.
Vidya Balan picked up the Best Actress trophy for her perfect impersonation of Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture. The film also picked up an award for Best Costume.
However, the Critics' Award for Best Actress went to Priyanka Chopra for her act as a serial killer in 7 Khoon Maaf. Child actor Partho Gupte, who played an endearing Stanley in father Amole Gupte's Stanley Ka Dabba, also picked up a Special Jury Certificate for Outstanding Talent.
Delhi Belly, which had 11 nominations, won director Abhinay Deo his first trophy and took home four awards in all. Shah Rukh Khan also stood vindicated.
RA.One may not have got him acting honours, but the film's special effects won the Best SFX trophy.
But the night really belonged to the Akhtar siblings, who went home with two trophies each, leaving parents Javed and Honey Irani teary-eyed

. Only recently at an Agneepath press meet, the actor whose kissing scene with Katrina Kaif in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was much talked about, had the press guffawing with his witty remarks.
A journalist chose to ask him about his kissing scene in Agneepath. Hrithik said there was no kissing scene, but on further insistence by the journo, he said, "If you think any of those scenes are kissing scene, you don't know how to kiss! Come on stage, and I'll teach you how it's done!" (less)Top 10 Bollywood movies of 2011
Pyaar Ka Punchnama: The year's sleeper success that kept us awake for a good 2 hours with its celluloid anthem of ribtickling misogyny. Three room-mates and their troubled love relationships formed the core of the comic conflict.
Every character and each episode spilled over with a delightful deja vu. Debutant director Luv Ranjan managed a 3-guys-in-a-sexist-soup comedy much better than Madhur Bhandarkar in Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji also released this year.
And the director did it with untried actors. Kartik Tiwari(who is now doing the same director's next Saathi) and Divyendu Sharma(who is in David Dhawan's Chashme Buddoor) were among the best discoveries of the year.
We luv you,Luv, for bringing push to shove without tripping over. 2.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara: It never rains in Spain except when three friends take off on a holiday to the country, to do the things they always wanted to(but were afraid to ).Zoya Akhtar's anthem to human dreams and aspirations did what Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti had done 5 years ago.
It prompted the audience into a spiritual awakening. This time the candles were being lit not at the Gateaway of India but in thousands of hearts.
'Guys, go for it!' said the movie. After seeing the film people actually went and did what they always wanted to.
Incredible! 3. Shor In The City: Gritty, witty and pithy this one paid a homage to the city of Mumbai through three inter-connected stories that jumped the gun, literally, firing salvos at conventional storytelling techniques while creating a language that was cohesive in its own disembodied way.
Does that make sense? Shor In The City's directorial duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK tried to make sense of the chaos of the city without resorting to exaggerations and gimmicks. And a whole of lot dark humour.
Uniformly competent performances added a sheen of excitement to this on-the-edge drama-thriller. 4.
Rockstar: As Jordan the rockstar from Pitam Pura(if that isn't a contradiction in terms, what is?) Ranbir Kapoor sold his soul to a film that seemed to revel in the ripples of Rahman's rock rhythms. Yes, the narration lacked a cohesive sense of purpose and seemed to drift in as many directions as the protagonist's music took him.
We were finally left with a film that worked for its medium-pitch rendering of a musical symphony on the artiste as a selfdestructive creature. Ranbir played Devdas on acid.
And it worked.Jim Morrison ki kasam.
5. Shaitaan: Debutant director Bejoy Nambiar's clenched tooth-edged look at one night in the lives of a bunch of selfdestructive upperclass kids in Mumbai.
Adrift and hedonistic, the portrait of self-gratification was dead-on.And deadly.
Nambiar plunged into the lives of his characters with unapologetic gusto, bringing to the surface the harsh reality of lives lived on the brink of destruction.Convincing performances, a fabulous script and an editing pattern that didn't celebrate abstrusness Shaitaan brought the devil out of the closet straight on screen.
A special mention of Rajeev Khandelwal as a cop on the edge.He re-defined the cliched part.
6. Tanu Weds Manu: Those who couldn't digest the over-sweetened level of shaadi-video in Sooraj Barjatya's Hum Aapke Hain Koun breathed a sigh of relief when Aanand Rai (a late bloomer for sure!)came forward with a film that made the festivities and flirtation during a typical North Indian wedding actually seem pleasant and enjoyable.
The romance that grew in the Bunty aur bubbling brew was panoramic yet intimate and warm. And the small towns of North India never looked more inviting.
Give or take a wedding card. The narrative meshed the Madhavan-Kangna relationship into acres of music masti and other diversions without flirting too hard with frivolity.
No mean achievement. 7.
I Am: Onir's segmented and layered, gentle sensitive and hardhitting 3-in-1 package about fertility clinics, police harassment,Kashmir militancy, child abuse and alternate sexuality provided a revealing view into contemporary life. Not allowing the narrative to be crowded with ideas , not leaning excessively on social statements , the troubled and troubling stories in I Am flowed in a smooth motion of life.
Fluently. 8.
Stanley Ka Dabba: For the sheer happiness of watching a film that walked with the child and doesn't talk down to him,for the sheer relief of hearing an original voice in the gaggle of derivative children's films, Amol Gupte's debut film scored high marks. And for making little Partho Gupte and his friends act and react the way children in real life do we will be eternally indebted to the director.
This one tugged at our heartstrings without playing the violin. 9.
No One Killed Jessica: A sensational true-life crime brought alive on screen with the deft delicacy of a chef slow-boiling a delicate digestible meal , this one was a class act. Recreating the events around the sensational Jessica Lal's murder in Delhi director Rajkumar Gupta also fashioned the ultimate chick flick with Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee putting in super bravura performances.
It's hard to make a watchable feature film out of a real-life incident. This one managed just that.
With resounding success.Jessica lived again.
This was a rare bio-pic that didn't offend those whose lives the plot touched. 10.
The Dirty Picture: An uneven storyline, a blurred moral code and a jerky graph for the colourful protagonist's character couldn't take away from glory that Vidya Balan brought to Silk's role. Blossoming into a formidable figure of vibrancy and voluptuary she virtually re-invented the heroine for the first time since Jaya Bhaduri, Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil.
If a Dirty Picture can be so delectable we can't wait for it to get filthy. Other remarkable films of the year: Prawal Raman's 404 Nitesh Tiwari & Vikas Bahl's Chillar Party,Shoaib Mansoor's BOL ,Abhinay Deo's Delhi Belly, Anurag Kashyap's That Girl In Yellow Boots, Nila Madhab Panda's I Am Kalam,Neerav Ghosh's Soundtrack, Kiran Rao's Dhobi Ghat
(less)Farhan Akhtar's dream run
When zoOm asked Rakeysh Mehra about his casting choice, he revealed, "Farhan's eyes got to me. They can brighten up a dark room when he smiles.
I needed that kind of intensity for the role." On probing further, Rakeysh told us, "I'd auditioned a lot of new actors for the role.
I had even come close to finalising some, but when the thought of casting Farhan came to me, everything just fell in place. He is very contemporary and his acting is spontaneous.

Now Rishi Kapoor, Boman Irani and Naseeruddin Shah are ready to fill in for the three veteran actors for Rohit Roy's remake of the 1982 classic. A source informed Mumbai Mirror that for the remake of Shaukeen, Roy has envisioned a film along the lines of ZNMD that will appeal to older men.
And so, the original film's script about three old men with a roving eye will be altered for the remake. When contacted, Rishi Kapoor confirmed, "Yes, I've agreed to do this project.
It is being directed by Ronit's brother Rohit. I chase Ronit in Student Of The Year and Rohit has been chasing me for this film.
I've finally said yes. Boman, Naseer and I play three 60-plus men not only chasing girls, but also having a good time in life before we part ways.
" With regard to the script, Rishi said, "In this day and age, Shaukeen wouldn't work. It's less Shaukeen now and more Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
It's the story of three senior guys out to do the things they never dared to before."

(less)Hrithik Roshan pumps it up
In fact, this time around, Hrithik will be seen in his muscular best. The actor who first dropped a few sizes for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and then gained it all back for Karan Johar's Agneepath by consuming as many as 22 eggs a day, has started training under Satyajit Chaurasia for his forthcoming film, Krissh sequel.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror, "Hrithik has to undergo muscle maturity now. Woh kafi lean ho gaya hai.
He has to gain some weight for Krissh sequel." And the man assigned for the job is his physical trainer, Satyajit Chaurasia.
The training will start 14 days from now. Revealed the source, "Hrithik did gain weight for Agneepath.
But now that he finished the portions where he was supposed to look bulky, he has again become lean. He needs to follow a strict diet plan and exercise regimen to get into the shape his father Rakesh Roshan wants for the sequel to Krissh.
" When contacted, Chaurasia said, "Yes, Hrithik will undergo training to increase his muscle maturity. I will be with him on it.
" Hrithik has a deadline too. Krrish 2 goes on floors in a month.
Hence, Hrithik will be undergoing at least 4 hours of training every day. Added the source, "As Hrithik starts with his training from mid-October, he will have only a month to meet the requirement.
Knowing Hrithik's involvement and passion for every project he undertakes, it shouldn't be difficult. Tough, but not impossible.

Thank you Milan. Thank you my husband and children for letting me do my job.
- Niharika Khan on winning the award. THE RED CARPET Today was my first day of shooting for Raaz 3.
It was tiring and exhausting. Now, I'm here to sit back and cheer my friends and have a good evening: Bipasha Basu This is my first Filmfare Awards.
The studio is looking lovely. Ranbir and Vidya seem to be the absolute favourites this year.
I guess they'll win the Best Actor Award: Chitrangada I remember when I won the Best Supporting Actor award, and then immediately my name was called for Best Debut. I had one award in hand and was going on stage to pick up another.
It was the most memorable moment for me. And I keep returning to Filmfare to bring back that memory: Vivek Oberoi It's an exciting evening.
If I win a Filmfare tonight, I'll score a hattrick. It's only on this evening every year, that meri niyat thodi kharab ho jati hai, because I plan to bring a lady home: Vidya Balan I think Vidya has done a good job this year.
Even Priyanka was fabulous. Actually they all were very good, so picking one is difficult: Madhuri Dixit It's a tough job to be on the jury.
I was on the Filmfare jury this year, and I'm not allowed to say much. But it's a very tough job!: Urmila Matondkar It's tough to elect one person or one film from all those nominated.
May the best talent win. We are looking forward to the evening: Sridevi My beautiful wife is with my beautiful baby.
I'm here alone. Honestly, I don't know the nominations too well.
Is my Ma (Vidya Balan) nominated? Then I'll vote for her. Am I nominated? No? Then I don't think I'd root for anyone: Abhishek Bachchan It's an exciting evening.
All of us are here, that's a celebration in itself. If any one of us bags an award it'll be a double celebration or more than that: Javed Akhtar Everyone from the family - Farhan, Zoya, Javed and myself have been nominated.
It feels special. We feel like a family of one of Karan Johar's films: Shabana Azmi I'm rooting for Ranbir Kapoor.
He did a brilliant job in Rockstar. I think Vidya Balan will win the Best Actress.
I've already congratulated her in advance. And ZNMD was my favourite film of last year.
I enjoyed it so much: Deepika Padukone Rockstar director Imtiaz Ali arrived with wife Preety. He informs though his Rockstar has been nominated in the Best Film category, he is unaware about the other nominations of the same category.
"I don't know about competition. I think when you make a film you don't get time to watch other films.
So I don't know with which films Rockstar is competing." His wife Preety is definitely rooting for Rockstar Ranbir Kapoor.
Rockstar has been nominated in several categories. I wish it wins every award possible.
The music of Rockstar was widely accepted, that was a feather in my cap and an extremely important thing for me: AR Rahman Pratiek Babbar is on red carpet and cheering for his contemporaries. "I want an actor of my generation to win.
I want Ranbir to win". I don't care much about Awards.
All I'm interested in is doing good films: Kalki Koechlin Though playback singer Shreya Ghoshal was won two nominations, she says, "Usha Uthup deserves to win. She is so legendary that I am not even a competitor".
When asked, which playback actress does her voice suits the best she says, "Kareena and Vidya". I'm going to be hosting a small segment and performing.
I'm also looking forward to Shah Rukh sir and Ranbir Kapoor hosting. It's going to be a pulsating evening: Ali Zafar Parineeti Chopra is thrilled to win two nominations for her debut performance.
She is nominated in the Supporting Actor (Female) and Debut (Female) categories for the same film 'Ladies vs Ricky Bahl'. "Winning a nomination for your debut film feels really great.
What's more rewarding is to be nominated alongside Rani Mukherji in the Best Supporting Actress category", she says. Prateik walks in with Amy Jackson I want Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara to win Best Screenplay, Dialogue, Film, Director.
That'll be a double whammy. And Zoya will ensure that I come with her for all the awards, for she considers me her lucky mascot, not that she needs one: Dia Mirza It's exciting to be here with the cast and crew of znmd.
I don't have any acceptance speech, just keeping fingers crossed: Zoya Akhtar I'm rooting for Kalki (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara) and many others. I want the best man to win: Anurag Kashyap I'm looking forward to Shah Rukh and Ranbir Kapoor's hosting and some great performances.
Delhi Belly, The Dirty Picture, and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara are my favourite films of 2011: Neha Dhupia I'd like Vidya Balan to win for 'The Dirty Picture', Ranbir Kapoor to win for 'Rockstar', Imtiaz Ali to win best director and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara to bag the best film. Let the most deserving take home the black lady tonight: Kabir Bedi I'm rooting for Vidya Balan for 'The Dirty Picture' and Ranbir Kapoor for 'Rockstar'.
For music it has to be 'Ra.One': Sarah Jane Dais "I'm exited, nervous.
..
If I win I'll start screaming. I loved Vidya in The Dirty Picture.
I'll be happy for her if she wins", says Mahie Gill Priyanka Chopra makes an entry in a Ferragamo gown and though she is nominated in the Best Actor (Female) Category for '7 Khoon Maaf', she says her vote goes to Vidya Balan for 'The Dirty Picture'. She adds, "I will be performing a skit on 'Junglee billi ka swayamvar' and hope people take it in right spirit".
Choreographer Bosco says Farhan Akhtar was a surprise package in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara for the 'Senorita' song. "I'm excited, thankful to God and thank you to Filmfare for my nomination.
Thanks to everyone who has liked my song. I loved doing this so much", says singer Harshdeep Kaur who is nominated in the Best Playback Singer (Female) category for the song 'Katiya Karu' from the film Rockstar.
Dress designer Niharika Khan who designed Vidya Balan's outfits in The Dirty Picture says the Filmfare black lady is sexiest - better than any actress. Delhi Belly actress Poorna Jagannathan says her film Delhi Belly should win the Best Film Award.
Celebrities have started coming in and Mukesh Bhatt is the early bird entry
(less)Salman continues winning streak in year 2011
If Bollywood's knight in shining armour bailed the industry out in 2009 and 2010, he boosted the box office business this year too with "Bodyguard" and "Ready". In both, neither the content was premium, nor were the performances superlative, but what helped the actor stand out were the big bucks his films yielded at the box office, strengthening his position as a bankable star.
2) Aamir Khan : What one missed in Salman Khan's films was prominently present in Aamir Khan-starrer "Dhobi Ghat". Aamir wowed his fans as a lonely painter in the directorial debut of his wife Kiran Rao, who deftly handled a bouquet of stories, travelling across various sections of society in the lanes and bylanes of Mumbai.
The actor had just one release, that too, consciously designed for niche audiences, but everyone eulogised it, saying, "Wow! What a performance! What an actor!" If that were not enough, Aamir was admired for daring to produce adult comedy "Delhi Belly" and the film's success further strengthened his image in volatile Bollywood . 3) Ranbir Kapoor: If his great grandfather, grandfather and parents are admired and respected for their cinematic genius, Ranbir Kapoor has proved that he is a true torch-bearer of the Kapoor khandan.
The youngster excelled in his only release " Rockstar ", which was marred by a bad script. His role required a range of emotions and he stood out in every scene and kept the audiences hooked.
4) Shah Rukh Khan: Romance is his forte! But this time Shah Rukh Khan donned the garb of a superhero in "RA.One" to woo his fans.
Though the film was not appreciated much for its content, his fans liked him as a geek scientist and as a superhero. He also earned praise for the use of technology, innovative marketing and promotional techniques to promote his product.
5). Amitabh Bachchan: Retirement? No way, says Big B.
Instead he is grabbing central roles at the age of 69 and this year too he came out with two films "Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap" and "Aarakshan" - as different as chalk and cheese. If the former saw him as a flamboyant underworld don, the latter featured him as a college principal fighting for the rights of students.
In terms of business, neither were money spinners, but as far as acting is concerned, Amitabh is Amitabh. He was terrific in both the roles and critics gave him a thumbs up.
6) Farhan Akhtar: When there is a huge star cast, it is not easy to make an impression. But Farhan Akhtar did that in " Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara ", which also starred Abhay Deol and Hrithik Roshan.
The art of acting is all about sensitivity, emoting, feelings -and Farhan got them all right. 7) Hrithik Roshan: Usually seen in over-the-top roles, Hrithik Roshan for the first time did a role that was slightly offbeat and closer to reality.
If "Kites" didn't allow him to fly high in the sky, his performance in "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" helped him unleash his potential as an actor. 8) R.
Madhvan: An NRI, who belongs to a middle-class family, returns home to find a wife. He encounters a drunken girl, who is not interested in marrying him.
But her spirit is such that he falls head over heels in love with her and it becomes heartbreaking for him to let her go with some other guy. Madhavan not only suited the role, but he revelled in it, earning plaudits from both critics and fans.
9) Abhay Deol: He emerged as the dark horse. Be it a doomed lover in "Dev D" or a smart thief in "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye", he has effortlessly carried his roles in the past.
He continued his winning streak as a confused lover in "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara". 10) Saif Ali Khan: This Khan showed his sparks in "Omkara" and after that he embarked on a journey that showed his versatility.
This year he had just one release in "Aarakshan", which was not a super hit, but the film's box office performance didn't overshadow Saif's work. Critics felt he scored very highly in sincerity, subtlety and sheer screen presence as a Dalit boy in the movie, highlighting the reservation issue.

(less)I wasn't born with the perfect measurements: Hrithik
Self-admittedly 63 days ago, he was a broken man. Read excerpts of an interview with one of Bollywood's brightest talents: Happy Birthday; heard your waist measures 29 and a half inches! Thank you, yes I've got my waist back in 62 days flat.
And to think that just two months ago I had hit rock bottom mentally. I had a slipped disc and was in anguish.
I couldn't lift my arm for a clothes trial. Dad was worried.
We thought we'd defer Krrish-3. In self-pity I was gorging on brownies and chocolates.
Then something within me said - 'I'm not giving in.' I got one of the finest doctors in the world to examine me and the physiotherapy sessions began.
I was in anguish but I told myself if I give up today, I may just give it all up. What did you waist measure then? 36 and half inches! I couldn't zip the Krrish-3 jacket or trousers.
What is your current mantra? I don't know whether you can call it a mantra. But the golden word for me is `initiative.
' It is all about taking that first step when you are down and out. We are all normal; we're the same.
I want everyone out there to know that I wasn't born with the perfect measurements. I had to work towards getting this dream body.
Are birthdays special or routine? Oh they are always special. I feel blessed every single day.
I am happy that I have some really beautiful people around me. And I thank God each day for giving me the awareness and ability to take control of my life.
That's my gift. Is Agneepath making you nervous? I am more excited than nervous.
I like Karan Malhotra. He was an AD on Jodhaa Akbar.
Here he was the one whose instructions I was following. Agneepath is his vision.
Who's more exciting - Kalli ( Priyanka Chopra ) or Chikni ( Katrina Kaif )? Chikni will get you excited, Kalli will make you cry. Aamir Khan and Farhan Akhtar both admire you for going from Guzaarish to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara; Agneepath to Krrish! Are you flattered? I am humbled.
That Aamir and Farhan both hugely successful and creative people should have a kind word for me, makes me happy. I am an adventurer and an explorer.
For me doing the same thing over and over again spells doom. Is there anything else you wish to ask God for? Yeah I have a lot of questions for him.
I want to keep pushing my potential as a performer and a human being to the optimum. I'm hoping that when I've evolved enough, God will answer the many questions I have in store for him
(less)Here come the Filmfare Awards
Dharmendra, Shabana, Mira Nair to get Padma Bhushan
A five-time National Award winner, she has proved her mettle in films like Ankur, Nishant, Arth, Masoom, Godmother and Fire as well as in movies like Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd , Sorry Bhai! and It's A Wonderful Afterlife . She has also dabbled in international films, and done her bit for social work as well.
US-based Mira has found international recognition with films like Salaam Bombay, Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair, The Namesake and Amelia . The National award-winning filmmaker is currently busy with "The Reluctant Fundamentalist", which is based on a book of the same name.
Nair's The Reluctant Fundamentalist also features Shabana in a pivotal role. Tweet
(less)Filmfare Awards: Rocking evening, great moments
As it turned out, Zindagi..
. cleared the course by winning seven trophies, followed by Rockstar with five and Delhi Belly with four.
The Dirty Picture picked up three. Ranbir Kapoor's and Vidya Balan's bold attempt to break the mould they had been cast in all along and essay roles that had darker shades-he a troubled rock star and she an unapologetic sex bomb-paid off in the form of the Best Actor and Best Actress award for Rockstar and The Dirty Picture.
Ranbir's turn got him a rare double whammy with the Critics' Award for Best Actor as well. Expectedly, Rockstar swept up three music awards too-Best Lyrics, Best Singer (Male) and Best Composer for A R Rahman.
The evening began with a musical tribute to Dev Anand, with Javed Ali of Coke Studio doing a version of Dil ka bhanwar, Aise na mujhe tum dekho and Khoya khoya chand. A ponytailed Shaan , accompanied by Leslie Lewis in a ponytail , stepped up with an ode to Shammi Kapoor with Baar baar dekho, Dil deke dekho and Badan pe sitare.
This year, the hosts were a mixed doubles pair of sorts. There was Shah Rukh minus his regular partner Saif, and Ranbir sans co-anchor Imran.
Still, each new permutation and combination worked just as brightly. SRK and Ranbir dropped from an aerial harness and collided mid-air as sparks flew literally.
SRK ribbed Ranbir, accusing him of overacting and saying that sons of great actors seldom matched up. Ably supported by Karan Johar , Ali Zafar and former Miss India Ankita Shorey, the duo made the audience crack up with their antics.
As always, the event drew an A-list of performers whose flamboyant acts lent glamour to the soiree. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan , there was Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone , who each enacted a medley of their hit numbers.
Having brought their long relationship out of wraps recently, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia, who are to get married on February 3, shortly also put up a spirited pre-nuptial tango that included a song from their forthcoming film Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. The hall resounded with applause when the Lifetime Achievement award was given to veteran actress Aruna Irani .
Back in 1961, few would have thought that the toothy child star of Ganga Jumna, who so enthusiastically sang Insaaf ki dagar pe, would acquire pride of place in Hindi cinema as a talented actor and dancer. "I have spent 56 years in the industry and I am so happy to know that my work is respected and appreciated," she told TOI.
"The charm of this award is very different from that which one gets for one role. It's rather like putting your marks in individual roles aside for the total marks of your career.
" Circa 2011, a veritable annus horribilis as far as the arts and media world was concerned, saw the demise of an unusually high number of performers in the film world, from Dev Anand and Shammi Kapoor to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Jagjit Singh , Bhupen Hazarika and many others. They were remembered through an AV.
The sponsors for the event were: Title sponsor IDEA, associate sponsor PC Jeweller, telecast partner Sony Entertainment Television, partner Coca Cola, partner Maya Lifestyle, partner Club X, lifestyle partner Monarch Universal Lifescapes, outdoor partner Bright Outdoor Media, beverage partner Black Dog, multiplex partner Orienta Cine Advertising , trophy partner The Award Gallery, food partner BJN Banquets , water partner Bisleri, radio partner Radio Mirchi, English news channel partner Times Now, scripting and show direction Moranis & Soormas of Cineyug, venue partner Reliance Mediaworks Studios, partner T-Series , event consultants Oxygen Entertainment and event management Percept Dmark.
