Azim looks up to Salman, SRK and Aamir Khan
To make his character in "Qasam Se Qasam Se" appear realistic, Azim frequented call centre offices to absorb the finer nuances of the people working there. "It was quite a relevation for me as an actor.
I witnessed not only people's mannerisms but also the activities they indulge in during the break hour. Looking into the mirror, some guys would be busy ruffling their hair and taking care of their looks, while some would busy binging.
And there would others catching up with family and friends over their cell phones. This has helped shaped my character in the film.
" Azim feels that all our veteran actors were keen observers and would translate that on screen. "Whether it were the legendary actors like Dilip Kumar or the late Raj Kapoor or Dev Anand , they were schools in themselves.
I am a great fan of Salman Khan , Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan and look at them as a student who looks upon his guru. I am mastering the art of acting watching their films," he smiles

(less)I never thought I'd be a desirable woman: Sameera Reddy
"My name in the list means a lot to me. As as a young girl, I never thought even in my wildest dreams that I would become a desirable woman.
I yearned for a perfect body as I was ugly duckling in school. But now that I have entered films, I believe that beauty is hidden in the imperfections of people and it all depends on how you use them.
That's my definition of desirable and I am glad to have made it to the list," says Sameera. The actor is basking in the success of her last Tamil release opposite Madhavan and has Padma Shri Priyadarshan's Tezz to look forward to.
Sameera has now decided that she will do a mix of performance-oriented and glamorous characters on screen, something that Simran and Jyothika did in Kollywood. So is the report true that Sameera wants to become the next Simran and Jyothika? "You cannot become another person.
I had said that I look up to both Simran and Jyothika, who had a mixed bag of roles- performance-oriented and cute characters. Both had their own fan following .
They are my role models and I want to have a beautiful lineup of characters like them," says the actor
(less)Sherlyn Chopra likes being unconventional
Be it politics, cinema, sports, business or any other arena, women across the globe including India are in great form mentally, physically and consciously to undertake greater responsibilities and tougher challenges that are often encountered on paths less travelled." Sherlyn is also happy that she has gone from being just a pin-up girl to an entrepreneur.
Says she, "The rapid metamorphosis in my case would not have been possible had the mindsets of the majority of the people in the Hindi film industry continued to be goverened by prejudices. I look upto entrepreneurs who command respect and attention for daring to think out of the box and act accordingly.
They do not have a herd mentality. What they have is unadulterated creativity which is set on fire by courage.
" Naming films like " The Dirty Picture ", " Erin Brokovich ", " No One Killed Jessica "," The Black Swan " as cinema that has changed the way we think, Sherlyn says, "Unconventionality is no longer a taboo. It is being applauded and celebrated by both the classes and the masses.
The pulse of the youth is racing towards liberalisation. And I'm truly loving it.
" Asked why she decided to give us photographs that resembled those of the " Jism 2 " campaign, the actor quips, "I have pushed the envelope by choosing to cover my nakedness with nothing but pure consciousness."

If that wasn”t enough she also carried herself on shinning red heels and a matching red color bag. Thankfully Priyanka Chopra and Mugdha Godse too were present and were looking extremely stunning and beautiful.

(less)Flash mob greets Imran at New York University
"I had a blast at NYU. Everyone was so enthusiastic, they put on a very polished, confident show, and the surprise flash mob at the end was perfectly executed.
My best wishes to all the students involved," Imran said in a statement. The students had been practising for the performance for over two weeks, ahead of Imran's visit to New York as part of the promotional tour.
"As the president of NYU Dillagi, a Bollywood dance team, I knew we had to have simpler steps that the general public would be able to do and we sent videos out to the public. I thought that the flash mob came out even better than expected since people kept joining the mob throughout the sequence and it definitely surprised those that did not know of it ahead of time," Mohit Chhatpar, coordinator of the flash mob, said.
"It was really fun to be doing a flash mob and having Imran among us was all the more fun. He was very sporting and interacted with the students.
We are excited about this movie as well and are glad he could come and be among us to talk about his movie," he added. The Dharma Productions' film, also starring Kareena Kapoor, is set to hit theatres Feb 10.

(less)Mohit Suri to direct Aashiqui 2 with fresh faces
"It's been 20 years for that film. So, obviously now I will have to upgrade this story.
It will be the same realistic love story but with a modern theme," Suri told IANS. Aashiqui won critical accolades after its release at the time.
It also catapulted the careers of lead actors Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, who forayed into Bollywood with this film. Suri is also set to hunt for new faces for the sequel.
"I will cast fresh faces with a new boy and a new girl," said Mohit. While some are referring to Aashiqui 2 as a sequel, others are calling it a remake.
However, producer Mukesh Bhatt of Vishesh Films sets the record straight. "It is neither a sequel nor a remake.
It can be said as the musical series of Aashiqui ..

Shah Rukh Khan shows his love for Gauri
Recently rumours were rife that there seem to be some problems between the steady couple Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan because of SRK's over-friendliness with Priyanka Chopra. The sizzling chemistry between the Don costars was said to have transpired beyond the silver screen.
Shah Rukh never reacted to these reports but had his own way of putting the rumours to rest. Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan had recently been to an awards function in foreign lands and their camaraderie at the after party seemed just out of a Bollywood love story.
A source present at the party said, "Shah Rukh invited Gauri for a dance and expectedly she graced the dance floor. The couple indulged in a love-soaked ball-dance on some beautiful numbers and their chemistry was for everyone to see".
We must say Shah Rukh Khan clearly knows how to silence his detractors without speaking a word!
(less)Fardeen Khan grateful for the court's verdict
Sounding cautiously jubilant, Fardeen said: "I had the utmost confidence in our legal system and the verdict of the honourable court proves my faith right. My family and I have been through a lot in recent times.
This reprieve in my case comes after ten years of tension." The court verdict Tuesday came as a welcome relief.
The offence with which he has been charged now carries a maximum punishment of six months' imprisonment or a fine up to Rs.10,000 or both.
"I have been charged only with attempting to buy cocaine. Charges pertaining to possession of cocaine have been dropped," the actor said.
"It's a baby step..
.all right, a giant step in my court battle.
But I am aware the fight is far from over. But the fact that I will now be tried for possessing only 1 gram of the drug goes a long way in giving me hope," Fardeen says.
Possessing only one gram of cocaine will only invite punishment equivalent to that of attempting to buy it. Fardeen admits it has been a trying time for him.
"My wife was with me in my fight. And if today I've received such a major respite from our honourable court, then she is as happy as I am.
But we both know the fight is not over yet," he added. However, Fardeen is not so happy with some of the misinformation in the media about his case.
"Some sections of the media have written that the verdict on my case will be out on November 2. That's incorrect.
The trial is yet to begin. It took ten years for the charges to be framed.
I am hoping for a quick trial and verdict," Fardeen says. The past years have been a time of great stress for Fardeen, what with the cocaine controversy and his father Feroz Khan's death.
His career suffered and movement in his father's illustrious production house F.K.
International has come to a standstill. Admits the actor: "I needed to set our house in order.
I had many responsibilities to fulfil as a son and as a spouse. But now I think I am finally getting everything sorted out.
You will hear a couple of film announcements soon - a remake of my dad's best-known film 'Qurbani' being one of them." The new Qurbani is expected to feature Fardeen in his father's role and Sanjay Dutt in the part played by Amjad Khan.

(less)Simi, Karan snub Paris Hilton
Actor and chat show host Simi Garewal was reportedly approached to feature Paris Hilton on her show, Simi Selects India's Most Desirable. But the lady in white declined, as did another popular celebrity talk show host, Karan Johar! While KJo reportedly refused to host Paris Hilton because he didn't want to ask her previously approved questions, Simi Garewal refused to be the second choice.
Says a source, "Simi was informed that there were only initial talks with Karan Johar, but no agreement was settled and no interview with him is happening. Apparently, Karan did not want to do an interview where the questions would be dictated to him.
As a result, they were keen that Simi do the Paris interview as she had also featured Lady Gaga on her show. But Simi does not want to be a last-minute second choice.
" Composer Aadesh Shrivastava has been co-ordinating with Simi on behalf of Hilton's managing company in India. The source adds, "Simi has recently shot back-to-back episodes with Kangana Ranaut, Rani Mukerjee, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Asin and is extremely tied-up with the post-production.
She is also planning for the grand finale episode. There are deadlines to be met and Simi just can't suddenly fit in Paris.
" Meanwhile, Paris Hilton is ready to come to India. She tweeted: "This will be my first trip to Mumbai.
I've never been to India before." While talk show hosts may have disregarded Paris' Mumbai visit, there are other plans to keep her well-entertained in the Maximum City.
Gauri Khan is reportedly hosting a bash for Paris on September 24. The who's who of Bollywood are expected to attend the event to be held either at the Khans' home Mannat, or at a luxury hotel.
Here's some Paris trivia : Paris Hilton has featured in the 2007 Guinness World Records as the world's Most Overrated Celebrity. In a poll conducted by the Associated Press and America Online, Hilton was voted the second Worst Celebrity Role Model, after Britney Spears According to a 2011 poll conducted by Ipsos, a global market research company, Hilton is the most unpopular celebrity among Americans, with 60 per cent of the responders having an unfavorable opinion on her.
Critics suggest that Hilton epitomises the title of famous for being famous; echoing that sentiment, the Associated Press conducted what they called an experiment in trying not to report on Hilton for a whole week. Her latest show The World According to Paris (which chronicles her daily life) will not be returning for a second season due to low viewership ratings.
Paris features alongside mom Kathy Hilton, boyfriend Cy Waits and Charlie Sheen's ex Brooke Mueller on the series. A homemade sex video of Paris Hilton and then-boyfriend Rick Salomon was leaked on the Internet in 2003, later released as the DVD, One Night In Paris, despite attempted legal action.
Hilton has had a fair share of runs-ins with the law, driving under the influence of alcohol, over-speeding and has been detained on suspicion of drug possession. Tweet
(less)Kutcher sets sitcom record; Sheen roast a big draw
7 million people on Monday (September 19). The Nielsen Co.
said Tuesday that was more than any other episode in the show's first eight seasons, when Sheen was the star. The sitcom's previous best came in May 2005 following the final episode of Everybody Loves Raymond .
Meanwhile, Sheen appeared Monday as the "victim" of a Comedy Central roast that reached 6.4 million people.
That is the second most-watched telecast in the cable network's history, behind only Jeff Dunham's holiday special in 2008. The season-opening episode of Two and a Half Men , television's most popular comedy, was much anticipated.
Producers kept it a secret how they would kill off Sheen's character and introduce Kutcher's. Sheen had been fired from the show last season for drug use and erratic behavior.
He launched a weeks long tirade against his bosses, including show creator Chuck Lorre, and Lorre got revenge in Monday's episode. Sheen's Charlie Harper character was killed when he was hit by a subway train in Paris.
Meanwhile, Kutcher appeared as an Internet billionaire unsuccessful in a suicide attempt over a crumbled relationship. He fell right into the show's randy ways, picking up two women during a bar visit that same night.
The success of Two and a Half Men gave a boost to the premiere of CBS' new comedy 2 Broke Girls that followed it. That show had an audience of 19.
4 million, the largest audience for a fall sitcom premiere since Inside Schwartz a decade ago. The veteran CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother had its best season premiere numbers.
By contrast, the season premiere of Hawaii Five-0 had a relatively modest audience of 12 million. Subsequent episodes will reveal Kutcher's ability to build on the blockbuster opening.

(less)Waiting unabashedly for 70, says Big B
With 1,322,985 followers on Twitter and a mammoth readership and hundreds of comments on his blog for each post, Amitabh Bachchan even today is at the top of his game both personally and professionally. On his birthday today, the Big B shares an anecdote with his fans on his blog.
"I was born today ! 11th of October 1942 in Allahabad in a small private maternity outfit run by a missionary Dr Brar, in the most crowded market area of the city, Katra. I was brought home by my parents in the best possible transport machinery that they could afford - a tonga ! Wrapped in a 'gudari' I still refer to many that I am a 'gudari ka lal' - a human that is affiliated with the cheapest form of clothing.
I loved being in that form and still love it," the superstar writes. "I have noticed on many occasions that the life and the style of those that live in such conditions, is closest to me in temperament.
There is a certain sense of attachment every time I come in close contact with people and circumstances that narrate to me stories of the time. That is my most alluring possession.
The complete ease that I feel and identify with when in the company of those that inhabit those lands," he writes. Big B regularly shares his personal and professional experiences with his followers, calling them his "extended family".
"As I step into the 70's unabashedly, I need to thank several of those that I feel were the ones that seemed distressed with the number of my age. But no they are not so ! When they speak of age and involvement, why must we only look upon the aged, onto those that show the ravishes of time and the hunger of recognition.
I would imagine that we must let the world be as it is and allow whatever shape it desires to take vis a vis individuals." Amitabh started his Bollywood career in 1969 with Khwaja Ahmad Abbas' Saat Hindustani , but it was 1973 film Zanjeer that actually kick-started his film journey.
The rest, as they say, is history. Amitabh's stint on TV game show Kaun Banega Crorepati resuscitated his career which was at the nadir after the fiasco over ABCL, the production and entertainment company set up by him.
On the show, the legendary actor does his best to fulfill wishes of the participants, even setting up calls with daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, at the request of contestants. "I have only just returned from KBC and it has been a grueling day, apart of course from the fact that tonight there were several from the blog that adorned the front rows of the audience, and what a pleasure it was to be in their company.
The zip and the zane went up several notches higher knowing that they were there and there in support." Amitabh admits he is inspired by the way these contestants delightfully make things work despite adverse circumstances.
"I must to bed now. I have a busy day tomorrow .
..
and the morrow and the morrow and the morrow !!" he signs off. The perseverance and tenacity shines through with every post or tweet of India's legendary actor.

(less)Snoop Dogg arrested on cannabis charge
com reports. During a standard inspection of the vehicle, police were said to be alerted by a sniffer dog to a red prescription bottle containing several joints inside, believed to amount to half an ounce of the drug.
Law enforcement sources claim Snoop admitted the cannabis was his and while he has a prescription for the substance in his home state of California, there is a zero tolerance policy for the drug in Texas. The rapper was issued with a citation for misdemeanor drug possession and released, but if he is convicted on the charge, he could face up to 180 days in jail.
Snoop has previously admitted he is honest with his three children about his troubled past, as he would rather tell them himself than let them learn from other places. He said: "My kids know who I am, I explained it to them, the things I've done, the time I spent in jail, the reason why I went to jail, when I sold drugs.
" "I told them everything so they could know from me first, as opposed to going on the internet or hearing about it from somebody else. They can make up their own minds and say, 'Well my dad told me this, I know how my dad gets down so I believe him.

(less)Eminem suffered memory loss
"I try to stay recording, because if I don't, I get rusty. I'm very paranoid about writer's block - I had it for four years, and it drove me crazy.
No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't think," the rapper said. "The pills had a lot to do with it.
Just wiping out brain cells. I don't know if it sounds like I'm making excuses, but the absolute truth is a lot of my memory is gone.

(less)Anil Kapoor to host a party for Tom Cruise
Apparently Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Arjun Rampal have expressed keen interest in hosting parties for the Hollywood actor during his stay here, on December 4 and 5. However all requests have been politely declined.
According to sources, Anil offered to have Tom as a guest at his house. But practical considerations came in the way.
"Anil is Tom's co-star in Mission Impossible . They have a personal bonding.
But for security reasons, he will stay at Taj Lands End which is now being turned into a fortress," a source said. Sources also added that Anil is planning a huge bash in honour of his friend where the who's-who of the entertainment world will be invited.
Some of the other Bollywood names who wanted to host parties are apparently not happy with the idea of reveling in the borrowed glory of Anil's bash and may not even turn up for the party. The source added, "But Anil can be very persuasive.
He will win over all the Khans and Kapoors and the rest of his fraternity and they will all be there finally." The venue of Anil's do is being kept under wraps.
The source added, "The producers have lined up big events. The core event is a screening for fans of MI4 on December 4, three days before the film's global premiere in Dubai.
" Officials from India's MI4 's distribution company in India have either switched off their mobiles or taken leave. A source said, "News of the fan screening has leaked out.
Requests for invites are driving the production company up the wall. They've surrendered Tom's schedules to Anil who will take a call on where and for how long Tom will be in Mumbai.

(less)RGV goes from Aag to Ayodhya
Having created RGV Ki Aag (the Varma version of Sholay) in 2007, the filmmaker will now create his version of the Ramayana in Telugu. Confirming the news, Ram Gopal Varma told Mumbai Mirror, "My version of the Ramayana will be a modern day interpretation of the epic.
It is my imagination of what would have happened if the mythological characters existed in 2011." All set to direct the film himself, Ramu has even decided to cast the biggest stars of Telugu cinema for his opus.
Situated in Andhra Pradesh, circa 2011, the film will be based on a war between two big corporates. "It is the story of Dasharath Rao who heads Ayodhya group of companies.
He is married to Kaushalya. On a business trip, he meets a woman named Kaikeyi Agarwal and ends up marrying her," revealed Ramu about the storyline of his next big venture.
"Dasharath Rao promises his second wife Kaikeyi that he will hand over his business to her son Bharat Kumar and not Ram Shankar, his son from the first wife. He asks Ram to head a sick unit situated far away.
Ram's brother Lakshman Shankar follows him," added the filmmaker. And the story gets better with the rivals of Ayodhya group entering the scene.
Lanka group of companies headed by Raavan Raju creates problems for Dasharath's family. Raavan has a brother Bheeshan Raju and a sister Shoorapauna.
Shoorapauna is a party animal and a drug addict. While the character names and the plot would appear comic to many, Ramu himself denied making a parody of the religious text.
"Unlike the speculations, my film is not going to be a comedy or a parody. It will be a very serious family thriller on the lines of Sarkar.
It will first be made in Telugu and then in Hindi," said the filmmaker. Ramu even assured that with this film he would make sure no religious sentiments are hurt.
A source close to the filmmaker told us, "Ramu recently saw the Telugu film Shri Ram Rajyam Prabhu Dev . That's when the idea of making a modern day version of the epic struck him.
He is currently filming Bejawada in Hyderabad. After this he will decide on the cast for RGV Ki Ramayana.
The Hindi version will in fact be rather interesting."

Susan doesn't care if this building fell down and we never did another movie again so long as we were happy and loving and together," he added. Tweet
(less)Lohan's Playboy cover breaking magazine sales record
Sources at the magazine said that newsstands around the country are re-ordering the issue after selling out, reported TMZ. Lohan, 25, was reportedly paid close to USD 1 million to pose for the photos taken in a style reminiscent of the nude photograph of Marilyn Monroe that graced the debut issue of Playboy in 1953.
Unlike Lohan, Monroe was reportedly paid just USD 50 for the 1949 photo shoot that produced the image that was bought by Hefner after she became a star, reported CNN. A Playboy spokesman would not give sales numbers, but the official did say it was selling 'very well.
' The Playboy job was a rare moneymaking opportunity for Lohan, whose acting career has been hampered in the past two years by frequent trips to court, probation restrictions, extended drug rehab stints and several visits to jail. Her legal woes stem from two drunken-driving convictions in 2007, a necklace theft conviction in 2011 and several probation violations.

(less)The Descendants was the best script I read: George Clooney
"I thought it was the best screenplay I'd read in a long, long time. When you look for trailers for this film, it's very hard to explain it, because it's a film that so slowly unfolds.
So beautifully unfolds. It's hard to describe the screenplay.
You start reading it and you're involved from the minute you start. By the end you're really taken by it," Clooney said in a statement.
With 5 Golden Globe nominations already as well as being chosen as the best film of 2011 by Los Angeles Film Critics Association, The Descendants is expected to do well at major film awards this year, starting with the approaching Oscars in February. "George is right for the part and he's a terrific actor.
He is a real pro and I couldn't be more positive about him. He has spent most of his adult life on a film or TV set and he just loves it; that's where he feels very comfortable and it shows.
He is so at home," the director said about his leading man. Tweet

(less)Agneepath: Movie Review
Unlike in the original, the monologue plays pretty late in the remake, whereby it establishes Vijay's identity over merely introducing him and with such individuality and elegance that it pays a perfect homage to the original, while at the same time not blatantly imitating it. That is how a remake is supposed to be! Retaining the spirit of the original and having a soul of its own.
This dialogue kinda summarizes the overall aura of the remake. The basic backdrop remains the same.
Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt) is the uncrowned king of Mandwa Island and terminates the rebellious village schoolmaster. The master's son swears revenge and grows up to be Vijay Dinanath Chauhan (Hrithik Roshan) under the wings of Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor).
Lala who trades in human and drug trafficking, rules the Mumbai underbelly. Vijay uses Lala to reach Kancha and thereby reclaim his island and self-esteem.
While the primary plotline remains the same as Mukul Anand's classic, director Karan Malhotra along with co-writer Ila Bedi Datta refreshingly revamps the screenplay giving it a new structure and approach. So you never miss the omission of Mithun Chakravarthy's award-winning Krishnan Iyer from the original and welcome the induction of Rishi Kapoor's foul-mouthed and despicable kasai character.
If at all the film falls into predictable zone, it's not because you are familiar with the original but because at the core of it, the story remains a basic revenge drama. The film employs the age-old conflict of a reformist school-teacher versus the conniving zamindar, duping the villagers of their lands.
The remake isn't essentially remodeled to modern times because the film retains its original era thereby reviving the raw essence of the 1990 film. And beyond the epoch, Malhotra also imparts the cinematic treatment of that time period to his film.
So both the villain and hero have stylized entries, their confrontations boast of high-voltage drama and, in the climax, when the bruised and battered protagonist rises to take revenge (in exactly the same manner like his father was killed), he wins instant applause. Also the idea of Vijay concealing his identity from his teenaged sister is so intrinsic of the era (a la Anil Kapoor's Jeevan Ek Sanghursh ).
Where the new Agneepath raises the bar is by casting Sanjay Dutt as the baddie. In his black-attire and bald-look, Dutt has such solid screen-presence that the director makes things difficult for himself with a challenge of how would Hrithik's hero overpower the villain.
Thereby the film employs some extreme action, which is more brutal than boisterous, to justify Kancha's imposing persona and the subsequent seethe in Vijay's revenge. Thankfully, what puts Agneepath a notch above the recent mindless actioners is that it has a basic human connect which it reasonably balances with the extreme action and never blatantly exploits any emotion.
Piyush Mishra's dialogues are impressive with rhetoric punches every now and then. And even when the lines go unrefined for Rishi Kapoor's crude character, it leaves immense impact without crossing the familial domain.
Cinematography by Ravi K Chandran and Kiran Deohans is remarkable. Akiv Ali's editing is accomplished and despite the film having a three-hour runtime, you never lose the narrative for a moment.
The only slacker is the obligatory romance track (Priyanka Chopra) but thankfully even that is kept short. Ajay-Atul's music and esp.
the background score are effective. Abbas Ali Moghul's action is raw and unrestrained.
Beyond his hold on the subject, Karan Malhotra succeeds in extracting inspiring performances from the impressive cast. The usually suave Hrithik Roshan convincingly glides into his coarse character here and has a towering presence.
He completely redefines Vijay Dinanath Chauhan and never in his act do you see even a glimpse of the original. Sanjay Dutt reeks of menace and malice through his sadistic laughs.
At times he overdoes his guffaws but therein lays his strength, which he uses to the hilt. Rishi Kapoor has never looked or played so mean onscreen before.
As the kohl-eyed Rauf Lala, the affable actor reinvents his screen image with a beastly streak to his character. So good is the actor that you never get enough of him.
Arish Bhiwandiwala as the young Vijay Chauhan puts in a confident act. Priyanka Chopra, Zarina and Om Puri are functional.
With Bollywood being obsessed with remakes in recent times, Agneepath is an important lesson on how to pay proper tribute to the original. Despite the original being his home production, Karan Johar attempts playing with fire (treading uncharted territory) with Agneepath and emerges victorious.
Agneepath has the fire for a lustrous entertainer! Verdict: Better than Good
(less)Cocaine Case: Fardeen charged with lighter offence
10,000 or both. "Charges of attempting to buy cocaine have been framed against Fardeen," the actor's lawyer Ayaz Khan told IANS, adding that Special Judge Govind Sanap adjourned the hearing in the case till Nov 2.
"I have been charged only with attempting to buy cocaine. Charges pertaining to possession of cocaine have been dropped," the actor told reporters outside the court.
"This is something we have been appealing to the court for the last 10 years. I am extremely happy about how things are going," he added.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Fardeen, 37, in Juhu in northwest Mumbai May 5, 2001 on charges of possessing cocaine. Nasir Shaikh, who allegedly sold him the drug, and Tony Gomes, who allegedly supplied it to Shaikh, were also arrested.
Charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Fardeen claimed he had tried to buy only one gram of cocaine as against the NCB claim that nine grams of the drug were found on him and Shaikh. Against the other two accused, the court framed charges under provisions punishable with imprisonment between one and 10 years and a fine that may extend up to Rs.
1 lakh. According to the NDPS Act, less than two grams is considered a small quantity.
An accused can face up to six months in prison for possessing a small quantity of the drug. Fardeen, the actor-son of the late Feroz Khan, took to acting in 1998 and has starred in over 20 films including Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya and No Entry .

(less)Is Bollywood star-struck by Hollywood?
That's the textbook reply B-Town stars give, while talking about the West. But in reality, stars are turning into fans.
Fans of the 'Hollywood invasion', if you will. Nothing else explains the fan frenzy that takes over A-Listers when a Hollywood celebrity lands in India.
Be it Paris Hilton's plush party, where Kangna struggled to get a picture with her or Bryan Adams's welcoming bash that Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Shetty contended for. From Khans to Kumars, every actor wants to share the limelight with Hollywood celebs.
On the flip side, while talking 'passionately' about Indian cinema, they profess the abolishment of the term 'Bollywood' as it's inspired from the west. Is it in their stride to fall to the charms of the celebs from the west? Does B-Town go overboard welcoming the West? This week, 'Bollywood Big Story' debates: Is Bollywood star-struck by Hollywood? Anil Kapoor "I wanted to throw the party at home, but I shifted it to the place where Tom was living.
It was just for my special friends in the industry." Malaika Arora Khan "I don't think it's over-the-top.
It's our tradition, it's our famous hospitality." Neha Dhupia "I wish Indian actors enjoy the same frenzy when they go to Hollywood.
" Vishal-Shekhar "International stars want to visit India because it's a huge market. Hollywood is coming to Bollywood; it's not the other way round.
" Kalki Koechlin "Bollywood is a self-reliant industry. It has fans all over the world.
We don't need to get star-struck!" Tune in to Bollywood Big Story this Sat, Dec 10 at 12.30 pm only on zoOm - India's No 1 Bollywood channel
(less)Leighton Meester's mother drops legal action
Although Constance, who gave birth to Leighton while serving time in Fort Worth Prison, Texas, for her role in a drug smuggling ring, countersued for $3 million in damages, a judge made an order striking her answer to the lawsuit last Wednesday (07.12.

He said: "Leighton is still seeking declaratory relief from the court, which we hope to have wrapped up in the very near future." Leighton is also said to be seeking custody of her 17-year-old brother Alexander, who has suffered health problems, including recently undergoing brain surgery.
A source said: "Leighton is disgusted by her mother and is determined to get her brother Lex out of that situation. "She wants Lex to leave their mom's California home and come to live with her in New York.

(less)Etta James passes away
Last month, Etta - who has battled dementia and kidney disease during the past few years - was admitted to hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties but was discharged on January 6. Lupe said at the time: "She is at home with her husband and her family by her side.
Her condition remains stable. We think it's best for her to be at home.
" Etta first had a chart hit in her teens with The Wallflower (Roll With Me, Henry) in 1955. She then joined Chess records in 1960 and had a string of R&B and pop hits including All I Could Do Was Cry, My Dearest Darling, Trust in Me and Don't Cry, Baby .
The singer always felt she had a sad quality to most of her songs, telling CNN in 2002: "Most of the songs I sing, they have that blue feeling to it. They have that sorry feeling.
And I don't know what I'm sorry about. I don't!" Etta's own life was not without tragedy and she battled drug addiction through much of her career.
After a low period she launched a comeback in the 1970s and later performed at the opening ceremony of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Etta was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and continued to perform into the 90s.
She said at the time: "I want to thank God for allowing me to come such a long way. I never thought about a hall of fame - I never thought about anything like that.
". Etta's later work is highly regarded and she won Grammys in 2003 for her album Lets Roll and in 2004 for Blues to the Bone .
The 2008 film Cadillac Records told the story of Chess records and featured Beyonce Knowles in the role of Etta. A conservatorship hearing over the singer's $1 million estate was conducted earlier this week with her singer's son, Donto James, asking to be conservator rather than her husband, Artis Mills.

(less)Review: That Girl In Yellow Boots
Ruth eventually finds herself living in a dilapidated apartment with a drug dealer boyfriend who lives off her. She makes a living by working in a shady massage parlour, offering ‘ happy endings ’ to sleazy old men.
Her every effort towards finding her father, whom she vaguely remembers, culminates in discovering darkest and terrible secrets. Still from That Girl In Yellow Boots An alien to the city, Ruth’s stay here is fraught with unending problems and misery.
The story looks promising in the beginning, but slowly loses its essence as the movie unfolds. It loses all and any sense of reality somewhere in the middle, with Ruth struggling to make ends meet at one place and dishing out thousands of rupees to find her father and protect her lover at the same time.
The movie is not very believable in this regard. Also the characters in the movie are played with a certain amount of intensity but do not develop as the story progresses.
The title of the film is quite fun. The bright yellow boots stand out in a mundane environment just as Ruth stands out in the city of Mumbai putting across the whole concept of being out of place.
Veteran actor, Nasseerudin Shah has outdone himself once again. He’s a father figure to Ruth who visits her at the parlour for treatment to a painful leg ailment.
Chittiapa (Gulshan Devaiah), a gangster who threatens Ruth when her boyfriend (Prashant Prakash) runs away with his money, and Maya (Puja Swarup), the receptionist at Ruth’s parlour provide comic relief to the otherwise heavy script. Anurag Kashyup’s cinematography is admirable.
Most of the scenes are shot in natural light and on the city’s roads. As for the background score, composer Naren Chandavarkar has made sure it supports and adds life to the script.
The film rather ends on an abrupt note and the climax isn’t a surprise but it is disturbing. Watch only if you’re in the mood for something not run-of-the-mill.
Rating: 2.5 /5

(less)Michael Jackson's manslaughter case just got murkier
After showering and getting into bed, he called for his "milk," a powerful drug he had been using to escape into unconsciousness. Jackson saw the anesthetic known as propofol as his salvation.
On June 25, 2009, it became the King of Pop's death potion. How he overdosed in his mansion on a drug intended for hospital use is at the center of the manslaughter trial this week of the doctor he hired to be his highly paid personal physician for the This is It tour.
Testimony about the drug is expected to dominate the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, a Houston cardiologist who has pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The prosecution claims Murray was grossly negligent in giving Jackson propofol at home without proper lifesaving equipment available and then left the room long enough to find his patient not breathing when he returned. His defense team claims the singer, desperate for sleep, swallowed an additional dose of the drug when his doctor was out of the room.
Getting to the truth of it will come down to sometimes technical testimony from an array of medical experts, pathologists and even the police officers and paramedics who inspected Murray's equipment in the bedroom where Jackson went into cardiac arrest. The defense theory, based on evidence that a trace amount of propofol--.
13 milligrams--was found in Jackson's stomach, may be a hard sell. The drug is administered intravenously, usually during surgery.
Scientific witnesses may be asked to explain how it could have gotten into his stomach. Some doctors say ingesting it orally is almost unheard of.
"It's an odd, on-the-edge defense theory," said Dr. Gil Tepper, chief of staff at Miracle Mile Medical Center in Los Angeles.
"It would not put you to sleep and it would move through the system very rapidly, causing awful diarrhea." There are few authoritative studies and few statistics on deaths caused by the drug.
It remains uncertain if the judge will allow a Chilean doctor's study of students who voluntarily drank the drug or a study of pigs who received it rectally. The prosecution has a key expert witness, as well as forensic experts from the Los Angeles County coroner's office who are considered at the top of the field.
The defense boasts an advantage in one of its lawyers, J. Michael Flanagan, who says he is the only California attorney ever to try a propofol death case.
Flanagan represented one of a pair of nurses charged with killing a cancer patient who died after propofol was allegedly given without proper authorization by an anesthesiologist. Flanagan's client was acquitted and the other nurse pleaded no contest to a lesser charge.
Abuse of the drug is said to occur among medical professionals but rarely among patients. In anesthesia, propofol is known as something of a wonder drug.
Tepper said it's ideal for short term procedures such as colonoscopies or cataract surgery. Patients report feeling energized when they come out of it and there is no grogginess.
"But it's absolutely not recommended as a sleep aid," said Tepper. "You would never reach restful sleep and you would have to have constant monitoring.
" In a hospital setting, Tepper said the doctor would have heart and blood oxygenation monitors as well as surgical equipment to do intubation if the patient stops breathing. Witnesses have said no such equipment was in Jackson's bedroom.
"It's a very dangerous drug," said Dr. Mark Schlesinger, head of anesthesiology at Hackensack University Medical Hospital in New Jersey, who said he has administered it thousands of times in his 25-year career.
"The difference between unconsciousness and no longer breathing is a very slim margin of safety." In the hands of a trained anesthesiologist, he added: "It's a wonderful drug and a very safe drug.
It's not the drug that kills somebody. It's the way it is used.
" Murray was not the first doctor to give Jackson the drug as a sleep aid, although others have not been publicly named. Jackson's reliance on propofol was first disclosed to The Associated Press mere days after his death.
Cherilyn Lee, a nurse nutritionist who treated Jackson with vitamins, said he pleaded unsuccessfully with her to get the drug he knew as Diprivan. He said his doctor told him it was safe and he described falling asleep as soon as the drug dripped from an IV into his vein.
"I said, `Michael, the only problem with you taking this medication,' and I had a chill in my body and tears in my eyes ..
. , "`You're going to take it and you're not going to wake up.
'" Lee, who said she treated him from January to April 2009, is on the trial witness list. She said she never saw Jackson use other drugs.
"He wasn't looking to get high or feel good and sedated from drugs," she said. "This was a person who was not on drugs.
This was a person who was seeking help, desperately, to get some sleep, to get some rest." Murray, who had been consulted by Jackson in his Las Vegas office, was promised $150,000 a month when he signed on as Jackson's personal physician six weeks before he died.
He closed the doors of his offices there and in Houston to devote himself to the singer. An autopsy report showed that Jackson was generally healthy, indicating his key problem was insomnia.
Murray has told police he administered other drugs known as benzodiazepines, which are also used as sleep aids. But when they did not work, Jackson demanded propofol.
Murray told police he was trying to wean him from the drug and gave him a minimal dosage, then left the room for five minutes to use the bathroom. However, cell phone records suggest he was making phone calls for a longer time.
His actions after he found Jackson not breathing are also central to the case. In the two years since Jackson died, doctors have been known to refer to propofol as "The Michael Jackson drug.
" Some fear a backlash for its use. Dr.
Lawrence Koblinksy, head of forensic science at John Jay College in New York, said the situation of a famous man demanding propofol is an anomaly and should not cast doubt on its effectiveness in hospitals. "If you have a drug that is wonderful, just because a celebrity dies doesn't mean you take it off the market," he said.

(less)Sridevi to help NRI women
That is about to change. The shy hermetic diva is about to come out and reach out to a very special galaxy of Indian women across the world: the NRI housewives who find themselves isolated in foreign lands due to linguistic constraints.
To rewind a bit, Sridevi in her comeback film 'English Vinglish' plays an Indian housewife in New York , compelled to grapple with a whole cultural transition. Linguistic barriers play a very prominent part in the film.
Sridevi will take the message of linguistic bridge-building beyond the film, to Indian housewives across the world via the digital and various other media. Though the plans at this moment are absolutely hush-hush we've come to know that the producers of 'English Vinglish' plan to establish a rapport between Sridevi and NRI women through micro-blogging sites.
Says a source close to the project, "Sridevi who has never known a world outside her home and family would be addressing NRI women on Facebook. She will also open a Twitter account meant specificially for Indian women in distress, particular, linguistic distress, in any part of the world.
In essence, she would be required to break free of her shy reclusive image to reach out, and offer remedies to women caught in critical situations." A panel of experts would guide Sridevi in providing advise to women on topics that she may not be familiar with.
But we came to know that Sridevi intends to handle the international crisis-management provision for ladies largely by herself. An international distress helpline is also in the offing.
Says a source close to the project, "We're hugely surprised by how much effort Sri has made to overcome her inherent shyness to reach out. The process started during the shooting.
She made an effort to bond with actors of every nationality. Now she has wholeheartedly agreed to lend her celebrity status to Indian women abroad who have lost their bearings and are clueless about how to get back on the radar.
Sri empathizes with their predicament. She has been a bit of an Alice In Wonderland in Bollywood.
" When contacted the film's producer, filmmaker R Balki explained, "We always intended to take the film's statement to a world outside the theatre. Yes, Sri will form a community of overseas women, digitally and otherwise.

(less)Fardeen Khan is all set for a comeback
He says, "I had the utmost confidence in our legal system, and the verdict of the honourable court proves I was right to have such faith. My family and I have been through a lot in the recent times.
" The actor, however, is aware that this is just a small battle he has won in a big fight ahead of him. "It's a baby step but the fact that I will now be tried for possessing only one gram of the drug goes a long way in giving me hope," he says.
His rock through these trying times has been wife Natasha. "She was with me in my fight.
If today I've received respite from our honourable court, then she is as happy as I am. But we both know the fight is not over yet.
" The last few years have been a time of stress for him with the cocaine controversy and also his father Feroz Khan's death. His career suffered and work at his father's production house has also not picked up.
Now, the actor is upbeat about taking back control of his life. "I need to set our house in order.
I have many responsibilities to fulfill. I am finally getting everything sorted out.
You will hear a couple of film announcements soon. A remake of my dad's film Qurbani being one of them," Fardeen further said.

(less)Toxicologist confirms Propofol was found in MJ's body
The court was also shown a police photograph of ornate dinner plates featuring babies' faces - believed to be those of the star's three children - displayed on a chest of drawers alongside family pictures. Also shown to the court was the official toxicology report of tests carried out on Michael's body after his death from acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009.
The document showed the star had six legal substances in his system, Propofol (Diprivan), Lidocaine, Diazepam (Valium), Lorazepam (Ativan), Midazolam (Versed), and Ephedrine. Giving evidence to the court, toxicologist Dan Anderson said that, out of all the substances found, the "Billie Jean" star had the least amount of Propofol in his stomach.
Anderson said he found only trace amounts of the drug - the equivalent of a few specks of sugar. Murray denies administering the fatal dose of Propofol which killed his famous patient.
If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison. The case continues.
