Hindi films are not made for critics: Sajid Khan
But he feels that Hindi films are not for the critics. Sajid Khan told reporters, "Critics never rate any blockbuster well.
There are four films which have crossed 100 crores. I am not counting 'Agneepath' which has just released this year.
All those films were run down by the critics." He added, "But those are the only films which have done good business in the industry that is giving more opportunities for people to work.
So who is more important, you tell me that? Hindi films are not made for critics, it is made for worldwide Hindi film watching audience. In the true sense 'Housefull 2' is a Hindi film.
" Sajid said he was quite confident " Housefull 2" would do well and said audiences would want to see the film three to four times. Sajid said, "The beauty of the film is that you will want to see it three to four times.
I hope the film does great business at the box office and sets a record."
(less)Mahesh Manjrekar to direct a Hindi film again
Mirror has learnt he will direct a Hindi film after seven long years, to be produced by Sanjay Gupta . Manjrekar confirmed the news and added, "The film will be based on human relationships and is set against a period backdrop.
"Asked why he had almost but disappeared from the Hindi film scene, Manjrekar said, "Honestly, at some point, I would even like to make a Hindi version of my recent Marathi film Kaksparsh. There was a time in Hindi cinema when too many remakes of South Indian films were happening.
That is not my type of cinema. However, after Paan Singh Tomar, Kahaani and Vicky Donor, things are looking pretty different.
I am glad." Sanjay Gupta too said, "Mahesh is not only a friend but also a super filmmaker.
I am backing him all the way. It will be heartwarming to have him back in Hindi cinema.
A few days ago, I saw Kaksparsh and was bowled over." It is learnt Manjrekar's film is likely to start as soon as Gupta is free from his directorial comeback, Shootout at Wadala

My friend's call me very strong man because I am a Scorpion. I am thankful to Ram Gopal Varma and Rajkumar Santoshi for offering me Khakhee and Gayab as those films changed perception about me at a when most of my romantic films were not working.
They supported me without even asking for their support." The actor now seems to be in a comfortable space post delivering Shor In The City, The Dirty Picture, Golmaal among others.

(less)I did B'wood films for Salman: Mahesh Manjrekar
But we did see him in Salman-Khan starrers Wanted, Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard . He laughs, "Salman is a friend and I just can't say no to him.
Besides, he never asked me whether I would like to act in the films he had approached me for. He just said, 'You are doing this film'.
I did all those films for Salman." The actor-director also got busy with the production and direction of Marathi films.
His films worked at the BO and thus he concentrated more on this regional film industry. "With Marathi films, you can be subject-oriented and try your hand at various themes," he says.
Manjrekar will be announcing his next directorial venture in Hindi soon. The film will be based on adolescence and fresh faces will star in it.
He says, "Adolescence is a lesser explored subject by Hindi filmmakers. Maybe because the Hindi films are more star-oriented and none of the stars look like adolescents! Therefore I am looking for new faces.
" Manjrekar recently supported the initiative of an online placement agency talent tube along with Sudhir Mishra and Sangeeth Sivan . He says, "I am a selfish director.
I want young talent. Budding actors, singers, composers can apply online and they will be auditioned by us.
A workshop will be conducted for them. Then they will be given an opportunity to work in the film directed by us.
I will spot talent for my directorial venture from this initiative."
(less)I can’t do mindless films: Vidya Balan
Basking in the glory of her success (or let's just call it the 'pregnancy glow'), the actress spoke about the changing face of Hindi film heroines and emerging as the new 'hero' in a man's world! Read on..
. You started the 'dirty' revolution in Bollywood.
..
Wow, I like the sound of that! Well, it was a big gamble. A lot of people appreciated it and I got more than I expected.
But there were a few people that told me it was over-the-top and it wasn't my thing." Sex symbol, pregnant wife and disgruntled sibling.
..
don't you miss the glamorous roles? I've never evaluated a role on the terms of glam quotient - the presence or lack of it. Women have an innate strength and I've been lucky to play such powerful roles.
Some actresses would prefer simpler roles opposite Khans, with chiffon sarees, dancing in the rain..
. Ha, ha, I've never missed that.
Those films have nothing for me to do. As an actress, I need some meat to chew on.
I can't do mindless films. You're revolutionising the way people look at leading ladies of Bollywood.
..
Well, as women, we all work really hard to overcome beliefs. I hope I'm not jumping the gun, but this is a golden time for Hindi film heroines.
We're being seen as human beings with strengths, weaknesses, failures and successes. We're experimenting and enjoying the acceptance.
Another problem is, your roles are so strong, there's no space for a hero..
. Yeah, I've been 'charged' with that, haven't I? Ha, ha.
..
I think there's a lack of good scripts that have properly etched roles for two people. One often ends up overpowering the other.
Rani was apparently upset for being nominated as the Supporting Actress..
. No One Killed Jessica was offered to us as a two-heroine script.
That's how we worked, that's how it was written and perceived. So that answers your question.
How about trying an out-and-out action film? Nah, it's not my thing. I'm not an action girl.
I love my drama, I need emotions. And as far as experimenting is concerned, I'll be doing my first comedy this year - Ghanchakkar with Emraan Hashmi .
" You're glowing..
. is it because of the 'pregnant' state of mind? I decided I wanted to promote the movie with a baby bump, make the hunt for Arnab Bagchi more authentic! So, have you decided on a name for the baby yet? Well, it'll be something Bong.
Hmm..
. a Bong surname perhaps.
Roy ? Ha, ha! Vidya recites Bong poetry, talks about Kolkata and naming her baby in this exclusive chat, only on B Tonite tonight at 10 pm only on zoOm - India's No 1 Bollywood channel
(less)Yash Raj Films going South with Band Baaja
The latest on that front is that the division, recently christened YRF Deccan, has zeroed in on the banner's 2010 success Band Baaja Baaraat to head south. The film starred the fresh pair of Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma and was well received, especially among younger audiences.
A YRF spokesperson confirmed the news and said, "We are seriously looking at remaking Band Baaja Baaraat in the South but haven't firmed up any plans yet." Meanwhile, a source revealed to Mirror, "Ever since Band Baaja Baaraat stormed the box office, many filmmakers from the south have approached the production house to buy the rights of the film.
However, YRF has never sold the making rights of any of their films. People always talk about how South Indian films are remade in Hindi but a little known fact is that lots of South Indian films too are a remake of Hindi films.
" It was only when Aditya Chopra realised this huge potential of the South Indian market that he set up YRF Deccan, appointing Padam Kumar as the head since he is a known producer in the south and understands the market better. Besides, Kumar has also directed Champion and Supari in 2000 and 2003, respectively.
"Band Baaja Baaraat will be remade in three different languages: Telugu, Tamil and Kannada, and the film will be going on floors soon. Yes, it might see new faces in the lead.
The casting process has already started. And the next film to follow suit might well be Bunty aur Babli and they are exploring the possibility of remaking Dil To Pagal Hai too.

(less)Hridayanath Mangeshkar gets his first doctorate
She's also the Bharat Ratna of India. Asha Didi is also a doctor and Padma Vibhushan winner.
I am also a Padma Shri. Now it's my turn.
Three honorary doctorates in one family where none of has had the privilege of higher education is indeed a singular honour. More than myself, I'm proud to be bringing this honour into my family.
" With brutal honesty Hridaynathji admits Hindi cinema has never been kind or generous to him. 'The last Hindi film for which I composed music was Lekin in 1990.
Thereafter no Hindi projects came my way. I've kept myself busy with Marathi films and stage performances.
But it would be wrong to say that I didn't need Hindi films. The truth is, Hindi cinema didn't need me.
" Ask him why his illimitable knowledge of music was not found to be useful for Hindi cinema and Hridayji says, "Perhaps they thought my compositions were too complicated for the average listener. I needed work.
But Hindi cinema eluded me, and that's truth. However I've no regrets.
I never ever asked any one for work." Adds his sister Lata Mangeshkar, "We have three Dr Mangeshkars in the family now.
More than my own doctorates I am proud of my brother's doctorate. He is so quiet and self-effacing he never asks for anything.
I'm very happy to say the work that he has done and all the achievements are his own.He never asked me to recommend him to any producer .
I am glad my brother is selfmade."
(less)Big B, Sanjay Dutt come together again
The film has heavyduty action scenes for the Big B as well. When contacted producer T P Aggarwal confirmed, "Yes, Sanjay Dutt is doing an action film directed by K S Ravi Kumar .
We're also in advanced stages of talks with Mr Bachchan for the film. It's Ravi Kumar's first film in Hindi.
But it's an original subject. It's not a remake of one of his Tamil hits.
" What clinched the casting combintaion of the Dutt and the Big B was the director's formidable reputation. Says Aggarwal, "Ravi Kumar has done a number of films with Tamil cinema's topmost stars Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth.
In fact he was directing Rajnikanth in 'Rana' when the star fell ill. Almost all of Ravi Kumar's films are big hits in Tamil.
We're hoping he'd deliver a big hit in Hindi as well."
