Soha turns biwi to Irrfan’s Sahib
She told this newspaper, "Nothing and no one is ever how they seem. I'm very excited about the role.
" Soha is very excited because her look, body language, clothes and appearance would be modelled on her mother Sharmila Tagore's in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Anupama. When contacted, director Tigmanshu Dhulia said, "Soha has been added to Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster 2.
We want the sequel to be glossy and viewer-friendly. We also needed more characters to carry the sequel forward.
Jimmy Shergil, Mahie Gill and Randeep Hooda are back. But, Irrfan and Soha play the other couple.
Soha will play a mysterious character."
(less)Review: Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal
Prakash Kumar Elred Kumar's Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal was marketed as a romantic thriller. Unfortunately it has turned out to be neither romantic nor thrilling.
The movie opens with an unbelievable action sequence before going into the mode of a sweet love story. Beginning is good but the film looses its grip as it moves ahead.
There are some twists and unexpected turns but they are not good enough to engage the viewers. After some ups and downs the film sounds predictable and disappoints.
Ram (Atharva) is an IT engineer in Chennai, who spends his weekends with his girlfriend Charu (Amala) in Bangalore. Ram goes into depression when Charu leaves him all alone.
After a few months, a new CEO Latha (Amala) joins the company where Ram works. Latha tries to convince Ram that she was the one whom he had met in Bangalore.
But Ram refuses to believe her. Later, it is known that Ram suffers from 'motivational delusion'.
He lives ina an imaginary world with Charu, whereas Charu does not exist in reality. Lata, who is about to get married soon in USA, wants to help Ram.
She starts enquiring about his background. She finds out that he had disturbed past after his mother's death.
Charu comes into his life as a fresh air and he falls in love with her. Her sudden departure makes a deep impact on him.
Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal , produced and directed by Elrid Kumar, has been shot in exotic locales abroad. But the director seems to have lost his grip on the script, which lacks logic.
The events move ahead in a hurried manner towards the climax. The suspense is missing.
The physiological angle has been handled indifferently. The lead actors have given their best.
Atharva Murali has shown a great improvement in his second film. He scores well in romantic and serious sequences.
Amala gets a meaty character and does justice to it. She looks fine and emotes well too.
Jayaprakash and Nasser do their jobs well. Santhanam fails to impress.
Anupama in a small role is quite effective. Cinematography by Sakthi is good.
G.V.
Prakash has given some peppy music besides effective background score. Overall, Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal is rich in looks, but poor in content.

(less)Need no queue to marry, says Soha Ali Khan
Yet people continue to speculate." Soha's mom, Sharmila Tagore, has apparently gifted the couple an apartment, where Soha and Kunal are expected to move in to post marriage.
Soha is reportedly living in with Kunal, but she denies it. Meanwhile, on the work front, the actor has been signed up for the sequel of Tigmanshu Dhulia's 'Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster', in which she plays Irrfan Khan's wife.
The character in the film has been styled along the lines of the role that Sharmila Tagore portrayed in Anupama - that of a suppressed daughter. Soha is kicked about getting the opportunity to act opposite Irrfan again, after 'Dil Kabaddi'.
"Acting is like playing a sport. When the person paired opposite you is talented, the game becomes interesting," says Soha.
And while acting is priority now, Soha too wants to turn producer some day, like bro Saif. "I want to turn producer, but right now, I see a lot of potential in the films that I am acting in," she says and adds, "The nature of our profession is very unstable, so we cannot plan anything based on the income we draw as it's not regular.
I totally support it when big actors venture out into production; it makes sense to have a back-up plan." And the back-up plan would include making the most of opportunities.
"When the going is good, it makes sense to cash in. Brand endorsements or making appearances are good image-building tools, as long as you are being selective.
Sometimes filmmakers cast you in films depending on how much you are being written about or seen around," she signs off
(less)Salman's 'Ek Tha Tiger', teaser gets roaring response
The teaser went online Thursday and it has also been released with the film "Ishaqzaade" Friday. Anurag Kashyap describes it as "intriguing", while Preity Zinta says Salman "rocks" in it.
The trailer suggests the Yash Raj Films (YRF) production is about intelligence agencies of India and Pakistan , and narrates the story of an agent named Tiger, essayed by Salman. The trailer is purely action based, and hints at the core idea of the film.
However, the romance bit of the film is not shown in the teaser as there is not a single footage of Salman with his co-star Katrina Kaif in it. Nevertheless, it has hit the right chords with industry members, critics and trade analysts, who have lauded the teaser, which has Salman firing guns, jumping from quite a height, fighting ruthlessly and ultimately, walking with an intense look on his face.
Kashyap tweeted: "'Ek Tha Tiger' trailer is super awesome..
. very slick and very intriguing.
..
super curious now..
. and envious.
..
jaldi dikhao (show it quick) sir." Preity wrote: "Saw the trailer of EK THA TIGER n Omg! Salman Rocksss!!!" Filmmaker Goldie Behl was also all praise for the teaser, which jammed the YouTube view meter within three minutes of its launch and caused the YRF server to be in danger of crashing, according to Khan.
"'Ek Tha Tiger' teaser is awesome! Very rarely do we see commerce and art woven so seamlessly together kabirkhankk has rocked it," tweeted Behl. Film critic Anupama Chopra, a Shah Rukh Khan loyalist is in awe of Salman after watching the trailer.
"Loved the trailer of 'Ek Tha Tiger'. Think I am finally ready to convert to the cult of Salman," Chopra said in her feedback, while film critic Taran Adarsh wrote: "'Ek Tha Tiger': It's the Baap of all promos.
AWESOME. This one will shatter every record in sight.
Await the new hurricane by." Khan, who has earlier directed "Kabul Express" and " New York ", is happy with the response.
"Thank you for the overwhelming response to 'Ek Tha Tiger' teaser," he tweeted. The film, which will also see Katrina indulging in some daredevilry, is slated for an Eid release this year
(less)Filmmakers Are Cashing On Trend Of Youth-Centric Films: Anupama Chopra
..
be it terms of location and concept it is return to our heartland - India. Instead of going overseas like New York, England, Amsterdam etc we are rooted back to India.
There is a shift towards India. Besides, since most of our population is young, so filmmakers are cashing on this new trend of youth-centric films," Anupama Chopra told PTI in an interview.
In her new book, 'First Day First Show' Anupama has penned down about the lives and times of Bollywood. The forward of her book is written by superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
"I asked him to write the foreword because he is somebody whose career I have followed very closely. He has had an exemplary journey in the industry," Anupama, wife of producer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, said.
Anupama had written his biography "King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the seductive world of Indian cinema". In 'First Day First Show' Anupama takes us into the lives of the stars, struggles of those who never make it to centre stage, making of legendary hits like Sholay and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge , successes of independent filmmakers, glamour as well as the murky links with the underworld.
"The book is a collection of the work I have done. The idea was to put articles together so that it shows how much Bollywood has evolved in the last 20 years.
I completely relied on India Today, where I worked for about 12 years as they have a great library..
.great archive," Anupama said.
"The book takes one through the ups and downs of the Hindi film industry. It marks various trends which have taken place in Bollywood in almost the last two decades right from the mafia presence in Bollywood, new kind of movies, new generation, multiplexes etc.
" This book has all the ingredients of a Bollywood hit - friendship, love, despair, hope, heartbreak and triumph, she said
(less)Bank employees swipe 17 lakh from Anupama Verma's account
Anupama realised her account was empty when a cheque that she had issued bounced. According to the police, the two culprits identified as Rakesh Vishwakarma and Nitin Sharma were working for ICICI Bank's Nariman Point branch in 2010 when Verma had opened the account and deposited the money.
In June last year, the actress had gone abroad and so had not been able to check her account for many months, which was observed by the two accused. Police officers investigating the case said the duo was also aware of the fact that Verma had received a debit card but hadn't activated it.
Cops added that the crooks then applied for a debit card in Verma's name, claiming the previous one had gone missing. After they had quit their jobs they accessed various ATMs in Borivali more than 170 times during which they withdrew Rs 17.
3 lakh. (Rs 13.
3 lakh from her savings account and Rs 4 lakh from a fixed deposit). After the withdrawal, the two started working for other banks.
"When I gave a cheque of Rs 7,500 to someone and it bounced, I was shocked. However, I approached the bank and lodged a complaint.
When I contacted the relationship manager I was told that the next cheque would not bounce. However, the cheque bounced twice more before being passed in July, when some interest from my FD had been transferred to the savings account.
It was only in December last year when I realised that my account was completely empty," said Verma. "I had also issued a cheque of Rs 700 for another transaction.
When that cheque bounced, that's when I learnt about the theft," added Verma who later approached the bank's head office, after which the institution paid her the full amount and reported the matter to the police. However, the actress says she is not done.
"I will also file a case against the bank. It was due to their negligence that I had to face so many problems and harassment.
If my money isn't safe in a bank, then where else do I go? How can two bank employees create a debit card in my name with false documents and then use it to withdraw such a large sum and the bank doesn't realise something is amiss," she said. Police officers investigating the case said that they had traced the ATM centre from where the withdrawals had been made.
CCTV recordings revealed the two culprits making cash withdrawals. "We then tracked down the duo and arrested them on Wednesday for forgery and theft.
We are also trying to find out if any other present or former bank officials are involved in the matter," said an officer from the Borivli police station. The two will be presented in court on Friday.
"First her money goes missing. Then the bank puts the blame on her and makes her wait four months to recover her own money.
This is totally preposterous. We'll be sending a legal notice to the bank on Thursday," said advocate Hitesh Jain, who is advising Anupama Verma.
"A fraud was detected in the account of a customer. ICICI Bank filed a police complaint based on which the main accused and his accomplice have been arrested.
Bank has taken all steps to ensure customers financial interest is safeguarded," said an ICICI Bank spokesperson in response to a detailed email from MiD DAY. Tweet

(less)Anupama's Cannes corner
You have to arrive at the theater by around 8 am if you want a good seat. Even these morning screenings are full by 8.
15. I sprinted to the theater yesterday to watch Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and today for Mike Leigh's Another Year , a slow but beautiful portrait of human relationships.
My guess is that actress Lesley Manville who plays a desperately lonely single woman in the film is going to pick up an award at the festival. We got out of the Leigh film and got right back in line for Woody Allen's You will meet a Tall, Dark Stranger , which is a sweet but slight work from the master.
Freida Pinto plays an Indian girl named Dia, who becomes the muse of a writer struggling to finish his novel, played by Josh Brolin. Freida was mostly required to look beautiful and that she accomplished well.
Anupam Kher also had a bit role as Freida's father. The film is a bittersweet look at relationships, aging and death.
At the press conference, a journalist asked Allen what his relationship with death was. The master replied: I'm totally against it.
At Cannes, sleep and sit-down meals are for wimps. People party well into the night and then see films or network furiously all day.
One of the festival's hottest parties, hosted by Vanity Fair, was held at the prestigious Du Cap hotel on Saturday night. No, we weren't invited.
But we did make it to the Toronto International Film Festival do at the Palm du Plage. The evening cocktails were buzzing despite the chilly wind coming off the Mediterranean Sea.
Cannes is a 24/7 festival. Which is what makes it so exciting and exhausting!
(less)Meet the unfashionable crowd |
It was a gold dress with a flower print scarf tied across the bust. She really looked as if she was a devi from our religious serials in a modern avatar, what with that huge arm bracelet, and let‘s not start on those flabby arms.
I also thought she looked like a golden fish, what with that pout and the scales on the dress. Anupama some advice, get a job and look at the mirror when you put on the make-up.
Please don‘t do it the dark. My next stop was Samaiara store launch in Malad, and what turned me off right away were the fat hostesses.
Then India‘s most trashy male model Shawar Ali stepped on the ramp with Aanchal Kumar. Looking at the other models, it seemed they were vying for ‘who is the ugliest‘ prize? And the clothes were just too unbearable to talk about.
Then I went to the auditions featuring leading models presented by World Gold Council at the Taj Hotel. Grooming and image consultant Chhaya Momaya was there and seriously, she needs a grooming consultant herself.
Dressed in a gold dress again (I know gold is very in these days, but the way these guys are wearing it makes me want to vomit). I somehow think she wants to have a size zero figure.
How else would you explain the anorexic look? Darling, if you don‘t eat, you face will look the way it‘s looking now- like a dried out prune. It‘s strange how people give gyaan about stuff they really don‘t know anything about
