I believe God is woman: Ekta Kapoor
She speaks exclusively to Omar Qureshi and reveals the tricks of becoming the 'woman on top' in a man's world. Read on.
..
Now that you're on top, what do you feel when you look back? I'm glad my dad pushed me into this profession. I was a couch potato.
I did nothing but watch TV and party. He was a man of morals, He gave me an ultimatum - either get married or do something with my life.
He didn't want me to be somebody who just parties. He pushed me into the telly business.
So you were a total spoilt brat? Oh yeah, I was a spoilt brat for sure. Tusshar was the humble one, not telling anyone that he was Jeetendra's son.
I threw Dad's name around for anything and everything. I believed it was okay to do that if some work was getting done.
How did you fit into this male-dominated industry? I had many cliches attached to me. Gender wasn't a worry, really.
People thought I was an 18 year-old-plump girl who wanted to make something of herself. So winning their trust was difficult.
I realised TV was a medium for women. I hired a lot of women to work for me; our management sense is the best.
A lot of men had problems working with women; there were boy groups and MCPs. The film industry is no different.
..
The thing with the film industry was, I had access to big stars - for dinner parties and socialising, not for making film offers. I had to make do with what I had.
But luckily, I got support from a superstar like Ajay and an up-and-coming star like Emraan. Milan and I were both going through a difficult phase and these two were right there.
Does the 'TV Queen' have a King yet? Not really. I have dated but I have severe trust issues.
Power comes with a lot of problems. One of them is that, you'll never be able to trust anyone.
My friends refuse to set me up on a date because of this issue. There were rumours of a link-up with Karan Johar .
..
Oh, my mother was very happy to hear that, but I told her that Karan isn't ready to marry me. Ha, ha! Any advice for young girls out there.
..
Just turn your passion into your profession. Women have the gift of instinct, so just use it wisely.

(less)Ekta Kapoor accused of dirty play
And thus, to clarify their stance and to discuss issues such as U/A certification, depicting smoking on screen, sexual content, the CBFC chief Leela Samson had flown down to Mumbai on Saturday for a conference. Along with CBFC CEO, Pankaja Thakur, Samson tried to thrash out all issues, but not without making some strong comments on the industry and its 'connections'.
While Pankaja Thakur chose to remain diplomatic and simply said that they would be talking to the I&B ministry on The Dirty Picture issue, Samson said, "The lobby on The Dirty Picture is very strong. If the industry wants a new cinematograph act, then why does that same industry not come forward to ask for the implementation of the new act?" Needless to say, the messages put forth on social networking sites and vocal opposition to the decision to pull off the television premiere of the Ekta Kapoor film, has not gone down too well with the Censor board.
On April 22, when the film was pulled off, the CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures, Tanuj Garg had stated, "It's unfortunate that even after a valid censor certificate being in place, the telecast was held! We have not seen this happen to any other film and cannot fathom the victimisation." When contacted yesterday, Garg still stood up for the film.
He told us, "There is no lobby. That's support.
The film industry has extended its whole hearted support to The Dirty Picture. The industry agrees that it was unfair and unfortunate for one film to have become the guinea pig despite the paper work being in place.
" "The issue has now assumed pan-industry proportions as it could happen to any other film in the future. There's justifiable concern and anxiety in everybody's mind and we all are hoping for a satisfactory resolution soon," added Garg.
While the former chairperson of the CBFC, Anupam Kher denied the existence of any 'lobby' in the film industry, when contacted, Ekta Kapoor did not try to hide the power she has in the film industry today. Ekta told Mirror, "Yes, we have a lobby in the industry.
Rameshji (Sippy) and Maheshji (Bhatt) had gone to meet the ministry. Fortunately, we have an extremely supportive and understanding I&B ministry.
We are expecting this issue to be resolved soon." On the other hand, what Samson terms as 'lobby', Mahesh Bhatt calls 'unity'.
He said, "We are fighting for the principles on which the industry has been functioning so far regarding the telecast of films with an U/A certificate. The Dirty Picture is caught in this tussle.
Ekta Kapoor, Jeetendra and Balaji are part of the film fraternity and we cannot abandon them. It is our duty to stand up for the fundamental right.
We may be in their shoes tomorrow."
(less)We can show rape, but not 'Dirty Picture' on TV: Ekta Kapoor
A source from Balaji Telefilms who followed the development closely reveals, "It's ridiculous for the ministry to overrule the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) decison to telecast the film with a U/A certificate. It's very upsetting, their stand is that we air the film after 10 pm, despite going ahead with the eight-and-a-half minute long cuts and making 36 voluntary and 26 compulsory cuts.
We have received strong support from other members of the fraternity like Mahesh Bhatt who plan to take this issue up. It's a wrong precedent that the ministry is setting.
Also it's a paradox that they want to ban the same film which they gave three National awards." Producer Ekta Kapoor took to her microblogging account to vent her anger over the matter.
She wrote, "We can show rape, an 8-year old's marriage to 40 year old, we can show reality/comedy shows with vulgar content but we can't show a liberal womans story who lived life on her own terms-truly this is our nations DIRTY PICTURE!" Film maker Pooja Bhatt who's making Jism 2 chimed in saying, "Not sure what the hue and cry about The Dirty Picture being denied an afternoon slot is about! I want nothing less than a 11 pm slot for Jism2! I am making an adult film and want a slot that caters to adults on TV. Why would I water my film down to suddenly cater to a family audience?"
(less)Ekta pitches Tusshar higher than Vidya
5 cr for The Dirty Picture . This time around, market indications are that she will not settle for anything less than ` 25 cr for Kya Super Kool Hai Hum.
She is so confident of this sequel that she is looking for a ` 6 cr jump over Vidya's TDP price! Incidentally Tusshar plays an actor in the film and is meant to be doing take-offs on John Abraham in Dostana and even Ajay Devgn in Singham. When asked whether it was true that his sister was pitching him at a price higher than the one she got for Vidya, Tusshar said, "I'm an actor; I would not like to comment on the money.

(less)Ekta is all about passion, hard work: Jeetendra
At the music launch of Char Din Ki Chaandni , Jeetendra said: "Ekta is a total product of passion and hard work. She has tremendous amount of capacity to work hard which I don't see in others.
" He said: "I come from a middle class family. I had to work hard but for Ekta she didn't have to struggle.
But she still struggled because Ekta had the passion. She could have taken her life lightly also but she didn't choose that path.
I feel if you have talent then nobody can stop you." Char Din Ki Chaandni is directed by Samir Karnik starring Tusshar Kapoor and Kulraj Randhawa in the lead.
Rishi Kapoor and Sridevi launched the music of the film along with the entire star cast of the film. However, Jeetendra is leaving no stone unturned to promote his son Tusshar-starrer film.
"No matter how much you push you don't get anything. Every person comes with his own fate, hard work and talent and he achieves only with that.
We have to be very happy with what god gives us," he said. Like every dad Jeetendra now wants his daughter to settle down.
He feels whenever Ekta turns mentally free she must think about settling down. "Everybody pray with me for that.
Once Ekta gets mentally free then she can think about it which every dad wishes for," said Jeetendra. Tweet

(less)Ekta and I have different tastes, says brother Tusshar
Ekta tasted success as a producer with Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Love Sex aur Dhokha, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai and The Dirty Picture . "As far as her (Ekta's) mindset as a producer is concerned, she has different tastes so whenever I would approve of investing in a film, she may not agree to it or vice versa.
But whenever I need marketing ideas I would go to her as she has brilliant ideas. I would talk to her about what we should do for promotion of Char Din Ki Chandni ," Tusshar said in an interview.
Tusshar, who is co-producing the upcoming romcom directed by Sameer Karnik, says there is no sibling rivalry. "If I start something then there can't be any rivalry as I have started it, it is not that we are buying films from outside.
..
it is like we are making our own films. I don't have any rivalry.
..
she makes it (film) or I make it..
.it is all in the family," the actor said.
"As far as criticism goes, she used to tell me that the kind of films I am doing is not right..
.It was a learning curve so it's ok.
Same way the kind of films she was producing, I used to tell her that they were not right for her. She also had to go through flops as a producer like I went through as an actor," Tusshar said.
About his new role as a co-producer for Char Din ..
., the actor says, "I stepped in after seeing the film.
It is just an agreement between Top Angle Productions and me. I have invested some money as far as promotion is concerned as that will be repaid when the film releases so whatever comes in the form of theatrical profits I will have a small share in that.
" For the time being, Tusshar would continue to produce only those films in which he would act. "I would be partnering in those films where I am acting also.
Of course the long term plan is to have the time to make films that don't have me also in it," the actor said. "Being an actor in Char Din Ki Chandni I could see the film and that's why I could invest in it.
" Char Din ki Chandni directed by Samir Karnik of Yamla Pagla Deewana fame is releasing on March 9. Tweet
