Twitter to flood with fake celeb accounts
" Poonam reacted strongly, tweeting, "Jealousy: That's what makes a b***h talk." When the online sparring came to light, though, Chitrangda was quoted as saying that the tweet originated from a fake account in her name, which incidentally, displays an official tag under her handle.
So, while it may be difficult for followers to tell a fake from an authentic celeb, the question is, what leads someone to fake a celebrity account? Is it the thrill of continuous attention? Or, as Poonam suggests, to settle a personal score? "There are a lot of reasons that may lead someone to encash on a famous name," says Poonam, adding, "But faking accounts can create a lot of enemies in the industry," laughs the 20-year-old model. "It is also a channel for a personal vendetta.
For instance, if someone doesn't like you, he or she may create a fake account to vent their spleen on you," says Poonam. Ethical hacker Ankit Fadia, though, says that pretending to be a celebrity on a micro-blogging site is a pastime.
"There is a fun element in faking an account because there is no way to figure out whether it is a real or fake. Earlier, there was a policy on the site to verify if it is authentic, but that has stopped now," he says.
The reasons, according to Ankit, are manifold. "It satisfies the continuous attention rush, helps in creating more followers for the celebrity.
The fake usually tweets about controversial matters, after which the real celebrity and fans also react. Getting a reaction from a celebrity is almost like creating another war of words," he says.
Industry insiders believe that B-grade actors and wannabe models create their own fake accounts (hire ghost tweeters) to massage their egos. Starlet Veena Malik, the first Pakistani to start trending on the micro-blogging site, puts it down to the "celebrity syndrome".
"People create fake accounts as they get immediate responses. Respondents may share personal details, which the faker may misuse," she says.
Celebs with dubious online identities l Amitabh Bachchan:140 fake accounts l Priyanka Chopra:120 fake accounts l Kareena Kapoor:120 fake accounts l Salman Khan:80 fake accounts l Shah Rukh Khan:75 fake accounts l Aamir Khan: 36 fake accounts l Saif Ali Khan: 35 fake accounts l John Abraham:21 fake accounts
(less)Anurag Basu to take legal action against the fake casting agent
While some got duped in the process and sent e- mailed photos across, others informed Anurag before proceeding any further. Says Anurag, "This is the third time that the guy is up to such a nuisance.
Koel Mallick first told me that I had sent across my casting agent, Suraj, to meet her. I was at my wit's end but still wanted to find out if there was anyone by that name who I knew.
Later, it turned out that the Suraj I knew in Mumbai has no connection with this dubious guy in Kolkata." Anurag decided to bury the incident till he came across another actor, recently, who narrated a similar story.
"This actor, Jhilik, knows my relative. Though she spoke to this guy, she also gave me a call.
That's how I came to know about this. Now I'm thinking of taking legal action since I can't risk anyone misusing my name and promising roles.
" Jhilik, who was also a finalist of the CT Fresh Face contest and has worked in Bengali movies, says, "This guy called me up and said he is both the casting director and financier of Anuragda. He said he had sourced my number from somewhere and was casting for Anuragda's next, to be produced by Anuragda himself.
He spoke in a way that it seemed as if he knew Anuragda's entire family very well. Not just Anuragda's film, he also said he was casting for the directorial debut of Anuragda's film editor.
" Before Jhilik spoke to Anurag, she sent across her portfolio to this guy. "I have sent a whole lot of pictures to him.
He received them and told me that he would be coming to town next week and that we should meet up for subsequent discussions on the movie. Now that I have spoken to Anuragda, I'm very scared.
I don't know if my pictures will be misused by this guy. I have had a word with Anuragda and he said that he will be pressing for legal actions because nobody should have any business harming his image.
" When CT called up on the number that supposedly belonged to this guy, the calls went unanswered
(less)Rajeev Khandelwal is not on any social networking site
There are a number of fake profiles of Rajeev out there, and the actor has now discovered that imposters are misusing it by pretending to be him. "I don't want innocent girls getting conned by any of these imposters," says Rajeev, who is hoping to find a way out to shut these fake accounts.
"Recently, I met Rupaji (actress Rupa Ganguly), who told me she had sent me a friend request. Then I met somebody else who said we'd been in touch via the site.
I've also got a lot of complaints," he says. What's equally a matter of concern is that the fake users are aware of his whereabouts.
"The fact that I'm in Kashmir with my family right now is something very few people know, but I'm surprised these people know about it!" Technology does have its flipside. Hopefully Rajeev will manage to find a solution soon
(less)Rihanna describes her bond with Katy Perry
She wants to be there for me and I'm like, 'Girl, I'm supposed to be there for you, don't worry about me right now!' She's incredible like that. She's one of my best friends in the industry," themirror.
co.uk quoted Rihanna as saying.
"When I came into this industry, I just identified with Katy and not a lot of women I meet I can click with and right away. And I just knew I loved her honesty, it was pure and it was fresh.
And I enjoyed her company," she added. Tweet
(less)Kesha's Twitter account hacked
The message declared, "Single out in a couple hours. Ugh so stressful.
..
wish I could stay on the beach forever." The 25-year-old singer later spotted the fake message and quickly deleted it after realising her account had been compromised.
"Animals!! I love you! I got hacked. Single is not out yet.
Promise you'll be the first to know," she tweeted. Kesha isn't the first famous face to be hacked in recent weeks.
Actor Jason Segel, teen star Hailee Steinfeld and British pop singer Jessie J have also been targeted. Tweet
(less)Bollywood’s obsession with beauty!
Fair complexion, light eyes and a well-toned body are the benchmarks of beauty. Sonam , Sonakshi , Arjun Kapoor - are all examples of 'heavyweight' star-kids who had to dial-it-down for a B-Town debut.
Is the industry too prejudiced about all that appears good-looking? Does acting ability really matter; and are these the right parameters to gauge 'star-material'? This week, Bollywood Big Story debates whether Bollywood is too obsessed by fake beauty. Here's what filmmaker Milan Luthria had to say, "Being fat is fatal in Indian cinema.
We get too consumed by the definition of beauty imbibed in us." Producer Mukesh Bhatt offers another perspective, citing an example, "I don't think Katrina is the most talented actress, but she's beautiful and hardworking, that's why she's at the top.

(less)Lady Gaga becomes vampire for boyfriend
12). The Bad Romance star put fangs in her mouth and covered herself in fake blood as a kinky surprise for The Vampire Diaries actor to mark the first time they have spent the romantic day together.
Explaining her costume, a source told The Sun newspaper: "She ordered it online about three weeks before the big day because he loves vampire-style sex sessions. "They had a very laid-back evening at Taylor's house drinking lots of red wine and eating spaghetti.
" Gaga also gave him a newly edited version of her music video You And I - which he starred in, and is how he first met her - which had added footage of them both in it. Gaga and Taylor are both fans of off-the-wall dates, and have previously romanced each other at a shooting range in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
A source said: "Gaga loves anything extreme. Watching a bunch of men unload guns would turn her on.
"Taylor and his pals like having her around as she's a laugh. She likes nothing more than heading to the pub for a few beers after.
" Gaga has also been seen looking for properties in Pennsylvania, sparking rumours they are to move in together. Tweet
(less)Jennifer Lawrence: I'm a horrible troll
After watching the movie - which is based on Suzanne Collins' book trilogy - for the first time at last night's Los Angeles premier, she confessed the only part she didn't like about it was herself. She said: "I mean, it's always hard for me, watching, because I think I'm a horrible troll and I'll never work again.
But overall I think everyone else in the movie is fantastic." The self-depreciating actress - who was nominated for an Oscar for her lead role in 2010 film Winter's Bone - believes she has a whole host of flaws including an inability to sing, whistle or dance.
She said: "You should see me dance. I'm terrible at everything.
God, this is really sad. I can't do anything.
I'm like short-selling myself, with like crying. I'm like, 'I fake everything.
I'm not a good actor. Next question!'" But despite her insecurities, 21-year-old Jennifer's star is on the rise meaning she started to attract the attention of the paparazzi.
She told MTV News: "I get photographers hiding in my bushes! We're way past autographs, we're into being stalked and followed." In the meantime, Jennifer is waiting with baited breath to see what fans think of her portrayal of heroine Katniss Everdeen.
She added: "Everybody's been really nice. But the movie's not out yet, so we'll see.

(less)Sachiin Joshi goes Aamir Khan way!
Experimenting with looks is the in-thing and Bollywood actors have begun going to great lengths to get the skin of their characters. Salman Khan toned his body further and added a moustache for 'Dabangg'.
Akshay Kumar will follow suit playing a policeman in 'Rowdy Rathore'. Aamir Khan actually grew a moustache to fit into the cop's role in 'Talaash'.
And as if these are not enough, Bollywood has a new chameleon now. Sachiin Joshi , whose debut film 'Aazaan' stunned the industry with its amazing action and production values last year and even bagged a Stardust Award for it, is pulling all stops to play a quirky cop in his next film 'Mumbai Mirror'.
To begin with, just like Aamir, the actor is growing a stylish moustache for it, instead of going for a fake one. "Having the perfect look goes a long way in making the character look authentic.
Its amazing, the way Aamir manages to change his look to suit his character in almost every movie he does," remarks Sachiin. But the newbie is not just stopping at a facial change! Just as Aamir did for his other film 'Ghajini', Sachiin is undergoing rigorous physical training, with his trainer having put him on a strict diet regimen too.
Having lost a lot of kilos and toned up his body, the 'Aazaan' star aspires to look every bit of the tough but whimsical cop he portrays in 'Mumbai Mirror'. Directed by Ankush Bhatt, of 'Bhindi Bazaar Inc.
' fame, the movie mirrors the Mumbai underbelly and revolves around the nexus between powerful corrupt dance bar lords and the Mumbai Police
(less)Tweeting is as good as having sex: Ramgopal Varma
Right now, I am back to shooting the quintessential item number. In the Bollywood times we are living in, what a face to a woman is what an item song to a film.
There was a film called "Teen Patti" and someone had asked me what I thought about the promos. I had said, I only remember the girl's back! The film, of course, wasn't made to show the girl's back but like it or not, that's all that I remember about it.
An item song is like the icing on the cake. Nobody buys a cake for the icing and but they enjoy it because of it.
Who is this new girl in "Department"? Her name is Nathalia Kaur. She is a Brazilian-Punjabi girl.
Frankly, I have not seen a girl in the last 10 years with more grace and expression along with an angel like body and a classically beautiful face than what Nathalia has. She is smoking hot in the 'Dan Dan' song in "Department" which I am shooting with her, Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubati.
'My Dan Dan' will do 'Khallas' to all item songs! "Department" is being shot in a format that no one has seen before in India. The camera angles are completely new for Indian cinema.
Having worked with Amitabh Bachchan in so many films, how challenging is it to reinvent him? What is the challenge for Sanjay Dutt? It is very easy to reinvent Amitabh Bachchan if you are clear with your vision. He is very sharp and can quickly interpret what you want him to do.
Sanjay has a larger than life persona and it's quite a task to create a character for him that's more down-to-earth. What's the status of your 26/7 film? The script is done.
Rommel Rodrigues, who wrote Kasab, The Face of 26/11, has written the script for the film though my movie isn't based on this book. I shall begin shooting on March 10.
This film is called "The Attacks On 26/11" and has to be elaborately shot. The event was complex and has to be shot in too many different places.
I am expecting it to stagger and work on it instead of finishing it in one go. I feel, 26/11 is the second most horrific act in the world.
The terrorists involved in this had more audacity than those involved in 9/11. The ambition of the people was far complex than that of others 9/11 though more people were killed in the twin tower attacks.
Is Riteish Deshmukh part of the cast? Of course, not. When I had visited the Taj, I had no intention of making this film.
It's strange for people to even think that I would be casting Riteish as a terrorist or a cop in this film. All those who are playing the terrorists are fresh faces.
The rest of the cast will be announced soon. Reports claim that you are directing the Hindi remake of "The Businessman".
..
That's what reports do. They claim.
I am actually producing the film and haven't decided on who will direct it. Your recent comment on the microblogging site, "Since a man has only one life, it is unfair and unjust to waste it on one woman", has Taslima Nasreen saying "2+ lacs idiots wasting time on you".
What's your take on this? I love all women and yes, even Taslima Nasreen. What exactly is your view of a woman? A woman for me is an incredible object of desire.
I don't feel desiring a woman is any less than loving her. In fact, I feel there's more emotional honesty in a sexual desire than in love.
Once can fake love but one can't fake a sexual desire. A sexual act should not be confused with sexual feeling.
The act could be common to everyone but a feeling is a function of the degree of its intensity in a particular individual. There's a difference between I want to have sex with a particular girl and how badly I want to have sex with her.
I want to sexually love a woman because for me, the very concept of a woman is about her sexuality. But the tragedy is that women want to be loved for every reason other than their sexuality.
So, this wisdom of mine is now forcing me to look for what I want in virtual women because they come completely edited and also come with a remote control. Recently, a Twitter co-founder has warned that spending hours on the site is unhealthy.
Will this information change your tweeting habit? Since tweeting is as good as sex, anything unhealthy will be the most desirable for most people
