Mahesh Manjrekar to direct a Hindi film again
Mirror has learnt he will direct a Hindi film after seven long years, to be produced by Sanjay Gupta . Manjrekar confirmed the news and added, "The film will be based on human relationships and is set against a period backdrop.
"Asked why he had almost but disappeared from the Hindi film scene, Manjrekar said, "Honestly, at some point, I would even like to make a Hindi version of my recent Marathi film Kaksparsh. There was a time in Hindi cinema when too many remakes of South Indian films were happening.
That is not my type of cinema. However, after Paan Singh Tomar, Kahaani and Vicky Donor, things are looking pretty different.
I am glad." Sanjay Gupta too said, "Mahesh is not only a friend but also a super filmmaker.
I am backing him all the way. It will be heartwarming to have him back in Hindi cinema.
A few days ago, I saw Kaksparsh and was bowled over." It is learnt Manjrekar's film is likely to start as soon as Gupta is free from his directorial comeback, Shootout at Wadala
(less)Hindi films are not made for critics: Sajid Khan
But he feels that Hindi films are not for the critics. Sajid Khan told reporters, "Critics never rate any blockbuster well.
There are four films which have crossed 100 crores. I am not counting 'Agneepath' which has just released this year.
All those films were run down by the critics." He added, "But those are the only films which have done good business in the industry that is giving more opportunities for people to work.
So who is more important, you tell me that? Hindi films are not made for critics, it is made for worldwide Hindi film watching audience. In the true sense 'Housefull 2' is a Hindi film.
" Sajid said he was quite confident " Housefull 2" would do well and said audiences would want to see the film three to four times. Sajid said, "The beauty of the film is that you will want to see it three to four times.
I hope the film does great business at the box office and sets a record."

S.", "Lage Raho Munna Bhai", says the third film in the series has been delayed by the lack of a strong script.
"We have always wanted to make the third film but it is getting delayed because it shouldn't look like we are making it only to encash it," said Hirani. The third instalment was named "Munna Bhai Chale Amerika", but it was shelved.
Now the new movie in the franchise is said to be called " Munna Bhai Ki Aatma Katha". "We want the third to be better than the previous two.
So, it is getting delayed because script-wise it still needs to be strong..
.but we will definitely make the third film," the 49-year-old said.
He spoke on the sidelines of a festival to celebrate producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra's three decades in the film industry. Hirani confirms that actors Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, who played Munna and Circuit in the earlier two films respectively, will continue playing the primary characters.
"Sanju is Munnabhai, I can't imagine anybody else as Munnabhai. Sanju and Arshad as Munna, Circuit," he said.
Sanjay says being a part of "Munna Bhai" changed his life for good. "From my career, my daily life to my image, everything has changed because of 'Munna Bhai', it's so important," the 52-year-old said here at the event.
"It is a memorable film, a memorable role. Actors very rarely get a chance to do such a role and I think I am lucky," he added.
In the 2003 film "Munna Bhai M.B.

(less)I would love to write my biography, says Sanjay Dutt
So, ask him if he has ever thought of getting a biography done or writing one himself, Sanjay says, "I would love to do it. I have thought of it.
But it is an elaborate procedure. And you need the right sort of people around you, from the writers to the editors to the publishers.
If something works out, why not." " Meri kundli mein shani maharaj mere se bahut prasana hai ," he chuckled.
Son of renowned actors Sunil and Nargis Dutt, Sanjay fondly called as Sanju baba, married actress Richa Sharma in 1986. She died of brain tumor in 1988, the couple have a daughter, named Trishala.
His second marriage with model Rhea Pillai in 1998 did not last too long as they divorced in 2005. He then settled down with Maanyata and they have twin babies -- a boy named Shahraan and a girl named Iqra.
Besides his marital life, Sanjay was notorious for having drug problems, in the early stages of his career for which he underwent treatment on his father's insistence at a drug rehab centre in Texas, US. He was arrested in a drug case in 1982 and was in prison for five months.
Another serious charge was of illegally possessing weapons and having interactions with terrorists like Abu Salem, which led to his arrest under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA). Tagged as a terrorist, he spent a lot of time behind the bars.
But the court declared him free of terror charges filed against him in the 1993 serial bombings. In his filmi career, Sanjay, who made his debut in Bollywood with 'Rocky' in 1981, is best known for films like Sadak, Saajan, Khalnayak, Mission Kashmir, Vaastav, Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai among others.
His jail stints interrupted his Bollywood journey and he went through a very low phase in the late 90s and for a few years that followed, suffering many flops. The veteran actor would be seen next in romantic-comedy Son Of Sardar , alongside Ajay Devgn, Juhi Chawla, and Sonakshi Sinha.
. His next release in 2012 is Zilla Ghaziabad which is loosely based on a gang war between two rival groups in Ghaziabad.
For this film, Sanjay has teamed up with Vivek Oberoi, Arshad Warsi, Minissha Lamba. He will reprise the role of Ravi Ananda played by Amitabh Bachchan in the Satte Pe Satta , remake while Karisma Kapur will step into the shoes of Hema Malini.
Sanjay would be seen in the third installment of Munna Bhai series -- Munnabhai Ki Aatma Katha where Sanjay and Arshad Warsi will reprise their roles of Munna and Circuit respectively. This film is expected to release in 2013.

(less)Hridayanath Mangeshkar gets his first doctorate
She's also the Bharat Ratna of India. Asha Didi is also a doctor and Padma Vibhushan winner.
I am also a Padma Shri. Now it's my turn.
Three honorary doctorates in one family where none of has had the privilege of higher education is indeed a singular honour. More than myself, I'm proud to be bringing this honour into my family.
" With brutal honesty Hridaynathji admits Hindi cinema has never been kind or generous to him. 'The last Hindi film for which I composed music was Lekin in 1990.
Thereafter no Hindi projects came my way. I've kept myself busy with Marathi films and stage performances.
But it would be wrong to say that I didn't need Hindi films. The truth is, Hindi cinema didn't need me.
" Ask him why his illimitable knowledge of music was not found to be useful for Hindi cinema and Hridayji says, "Perhaps they thought my compositions were too complicated for the average listener. I needed work.
But Hindi cinema eluded me, and that's truth. However I've no regrets.
I never ever asked any one for work." Adds his sister Lata Mangeshkar, "We have three Dr Mangeshkars in the family now.
More than my own doctorates I am proud of my brother's doctorate. He is so quiet and self-effacing he never asks for anything.
I'm very happy to say the work that he has done and all the achievements are his own.He never asked me to recommend him to any producer .
I am glad my brother is selfmade."
