(less)Imran Khan beefs up for Once Upon... sequel
In Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai 2, Imran plays Aslam, a street fighter with a heart of gold. Apart from the fact that this will be Imran's first such role, Luthria is keen he puts on weight and looks suitably beefed-up for the part.
Confirming the news, Luthria said, "I am always excited by unusual casting and this is very unlike anything Imran has played before. It is unexpected for audiences.
It's a character with a mass appeal with great one-liners, in keeping with the first part of the franchise. I sense Imran is an extremely committed actor, and am sure he will go the distance to achieve the look I have in mind, which requires a strict dietary regimen and extended endurance training among others.
I am awaiting Imran's return from Chandigarh to discuss this at length with him. Meanwhile we've been in touch over the phone and email.
" Explained Luthria, "The whole idea is Imran is excited about a genre he hasn't done yet. I feel I can give his character an edge so he is shockingly different and makes everyone sit up and take notice.
While he is immensely popular with girls, I believe in an action film, the actor must look his best physically." So how does Imran plan on piling on the pounds? Luthria explains it is all about eating right and eating as per goals.
Depending on the body type, every person needs either more protein or more carbohydrates. A team will be with Imran 24x7 to help Luthria project the actor in the way he wants to in the film.
Imran said excitedly, "This is a challenging role and Milan has been giving me a lot of reference points for the character, ranging from looks to performance. I'm thrilled to be a part of the franchise, and even more excited with the potential of this film.
I will be starting my prep work as soon as I finish shooting Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola, as I want to make sure that I can achieve what Milan has in mind." With shooting for the sequel slated to begin in August, Imran has plenty of time to put on

(less)I don't care about my looks: Imran Khan
"It is a pleasure coming to Ahmedabad. I plan to sample the Gujarati thali at a popular restaurant," he says with a warm smile.
Yes, we've heard that line so much from his B-Town counterparts who visit the state that it no longer makes our heart skip any beats. Talking about his experience of working with Kareena Kapoor , he says, "Kareena is a chilled-out girl.
I was always worried about how she would be to work with, but she is uncomplicated. She comes with no drama or excess starry baggage," he shares.
Film promotion on the eve of its theatrical release seems to have become an integral part of showbiz today. "One has to market the film well because the stakes are higher and theatrical revenue still makes up a huge percentage of a film's profit.
The overseas market today comprises not just NRIs, but even foreigners who have started watching Hindi films, so one needs to carpetbomb with promotional trips/ moves. The markets in the US, UK and the UAE have grown phenomenally over the last few years and catering to those territories help us grow.
Our films are released in India and in foreign countries on the same day. Secondly, the options for entertainment have also increased - games, HD TV and internet.
We are competing with other entertainment mediums," he says. And does he think his looks work for him in films? "I have never thought about it.
I follow the script , I don't care about how I look," he says. Imran is happy that his solo films have worked commercially at the BO.
"I feel if an actor can carry a film on his/her shoulder, he should just do that," he says. While a majority of his romantic films have raked in moolah at the BO, Imran says that he doesn't limit himself to a particular genre.
"I have done seven films so far, and only three were romantic. Delhi Belly, my biggest hit wasn't a love story.
I do projects that are interesting," he says. It's believed that having a famous surname in the film industry helps.
So does he think that mamu jaan (Aamir Khan) has helped him in carving his success story? "It's hard to say that. Only two of my hit films were produced by him.
But, the audience doesn't care who a star's related to. A starry surname might get us lot of print/TV space, but can't convince the audience to buy tickets on that basis," he avers.
So how often does he consult Aamir before signing on the dotted line? "Aamir has never read my scripts or met my film directors. He is too busy with his life and work.
He has not seen most of my films. I also haven't seen Dhobi Ghat," he says.
In an industry where most relationships are fragile, Imran has dated Avantika for seven years before tying the knot."Relationships work if you invest time and effort in them.
You can't describe human relationships in words/phases," he says. Famous last words, Imran!
(less)Imran-Kareena's Vegas secrets
" Imran quickly added, "None of that is true. We were living at some far-off hotel on the outskirts of Las Vegas.
We could only see the skyline of Vegas." C'mon KJo, make up to your lovely stars.

(less)Imran denies saying he has an edge over Ranbir
And recently, around the time of Kareena-Imran-starrer Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu promotions, when Imran was quoted saying that he has an edge over Ranbir because he can be romantically paired with Kareena whereas Ranbir can't, the controversial statement led to many tongues wagging. But, when Imran was asked upfront about it, Imran denied making the statement.
"That is not my quote. Some one said that I can work with Kareena and Ranbir can't, and I merely said, "Yes, that is true.
" "I don't make such antagonistic and aggressive statements. That is the fabrication of some eager journalist," the actor further said laughing.
Coming to her co-star's defence, Kareena says, "Imran is too sweet a guy to make such statements. And I don't think there is an edge because everyone knows that Ranbir and I am brother and sister (laughs).
So it is no big deal." Quoted or misquoted, we don't know, but many movie-buffs definitely feel sad about the fact that huge talents and beautiful actors like Kareena and Ranbir who are known for their cinematic brilliance cannot be romantically paired in a film.
What a pity
(less)Salman's hits don’t make Aamir smaller: Imran
On competing with Ranbir, Imran says, "If Ranbir's films are doing well, it does not affect me. Salman Khan has been giving huge hits but that doesn't affect Aamir's career.
Everyone has a place of his own in the industry and I'd like to create one. I've heard Rockstar was phenomenal.
I am glad it was." Both Ranbir and Imran have been touted as superstars by Bollywood's most celebrated Khans: Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir
(less)Imran Khan’s home sick
This is the first time he's travelled to the interiors and shot in small towns. To prep for the role, he has not only changed his physical appearance but has also learnt Haryanvi and how to ride a bike.
Desite being away from home, he's making sure he calls Avantika between his breaks. Being a tech-fan, he's carried his iPad and also sends pictures of where he's shooting and what he's upto from the set.
When asked what he's looking forward to the most during his stay, Khan says, "One thing I am most excited about is Gujarati hospitality."
