(less)Pyarelal feels no 'Pyaar' in Bollywood! |
So when ‘Dard-E-Dil‘ was changed to ‘Dard-E-Disco‘, the nation might‘ve loved every move and groove, but Pyarelal was not at all impressed! After all his hard work, there was no mention of his contribution in any of the film‘s promotion and publicity. Not even in any of the credits for the songs in the album‘s CDs when in fact, he had been asked to compose three songs, including the theme music for ‘Om Shanti Om.

"I think?? Amir Khusro also did fusion. The Siddhis, who are descendants of an African tribe, are fusion artists.
Shankar Jaikishen, Laxmikant Pyarelal, R D Burman also did incredible fusion. All these artists just projected some beautiful old melodies in another style.
It is just a natural development for the music and musician," he clarifies. And although, the classical arts don't need any reviving, they should be relevant to today's times.
"I think Indian youth is very interested in classical arts. But they also need younger icons who will offer a new direction to old ideas.
And the only way to build audiences is to encourage younger talent." Wah, Ustad!

Time was when a Raj Kapoor could not visualise a film as director for 21 long years minus his proteges Shankar-Jaikishan. Subhash Ghai’s association with Laxmikant-Pyarelal lasted 17 years, Nasir Husain worked with R.
D.Burman for 20 years, so did Prakash Mehra in his own films with Kalyanji-Anandji.
But today, it is a rare Farhan Akhtar who sticks loyally to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, or a Siddharth Anand who is making his fourth film with Vishal-Shekhar.

Hindi cinema wouldn’t be as melodious as it is without it’s nightingale – Lata Mangeshkar, who turns 80 today. She was named Hridaya at birth, her parents however renamed her Lata after the character Latika from her father’s play Bhaw Bandhan, but what’s in a name.
Well, nothing at all if you are Lata Mangeshkar. Though Lata Mangeshkar worked with almost every big music director and singer of her time she had a special bond with Laxmikant Pyarelaal.
“They didn’t want to work with any other female singer but me. They offered me songs from Bobby, I had at first because Raj Kapoor and I had been in an arguement over royalty of songs.
They said if I didn’t sing, they would drop the project altogether. It was a big film and I did not want them to lose out.
I agreed but only after Raj Kapoor had said yes to the royalty,” said Lata Mangeshkar. Sphere: Related Content Posted in

Shetgaonkar's film Pultodcho Monis won the prestigious International Federation of Film Critics award at the recently concluded Toronto film festival.
Shetgaonkar was also critical of the state government for reducing the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to a carnival, where Goans were sidelined as mere spectators. "Isn't it ironic that it's been five years that Goa is hosting IFFI and we do not even have five films (Goans) in our hands," he said, adding that locals should be involved in the IFFI.
"Common people need to connect with IFFI." Shetgaonkar also alleged that businessmen with vested interests are controlling important positions of patronage in Goa and sought an overhaul of state-run cultural agencies replacing the present lot at the helm.
"All true artists are overshadowed by them. Please bring in artists on important positions in these organisations," Shetgaonkar said.
Chief Minister Kamat, while lauding Shetgaonkar's efforts, said that film culture in the state is evolving for the better. (less)I can't have a body like Sallu: Shah Rukh Khan
His mother was an avid fan of Dilip Kumar and Rajesh Khanna. Therefore, it was not too difficult for him to play the character of Om Prakash Makhija, in Farah Khan's 'Om Shanti Om'.
"I just had to recall whatever I could remember about the films of those days, when I set out to play the character in the first part of the film," he says, laughing, as he adds, "In fact, Farah Khan says that those portions came naturally to me because I overact." The music for the song, 'Dhoom Thana', was carefully arranged by music director Pyarelal, of Laxmikant-Pyarelal fame, for that 70s feel.
For that famous sequence in the film, which is now aired as part of the promotional campaign, SRK reveals that the real stars from the industry were roped in for a guest appearance for a more realistic feel. The film is based on the film industry, so it was understood that duplicates would not work.
SRK says, "I am glad that other than Devsaab, all the senior stars, including Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, Jeetendra and Mithun Chakraborty responded immediately, when Farah and I called them to give a guest appearance."
