Producer Mozez Singh picks fights with Shah Rukh and Sohail Bollywood News and Gossip
Says an insider, ” All was well at Maheep’s party at her Juhu residence. Almost as if out of the blue, Salman’s younger bro and Singh got into a tiff.
Sohail was quietly dancing in a corner with his wife and some girls when Singh walked by and passed offensive remarks on the women.” ” Initially, Khan didn’t react but when Singh grew belligerent and abusive, the short- tempered actor lost it and started shoving the younger man around.
Mozez pushed back and the argument showed signs of getting worse.” Adds the source, ” The hostess soon came over and sorted it out.
By that time, the two men had cooled down and a disgusted Khan was about to stage a walkout. Maheep made sure the two men spoke to each other and make up before they left the party.
” Elevator woes But brawlin’ Mozez hadn’t had enough. ” He decided to leave the party at around 4.
30 am and headed to the elevators. Shah Rukh Khan, Riteish Sidhwani, Hrithik Roshan and Karan Johar were waiting for the lift as well.
They were minding their own business and were surprise when Singh began insulting and passing nasty remarks on King Khan.” After a while, SRK ? who isn’t quick to anger ? decided he had had enough of the taunts.
” Shah Rukh grabbed Singh by the shirt and wouldn’t let go. The two continued squabbling until Duggu, who can’t stand fights, tried pulling the two apart.
SRK’s friends pulled him away soon after.” An embarrassed Sanjay Kapoor tried pacifying his guests.
Finally, SRK was bundled into the lift with Hrithik. Later, both came down and posed for pictures.
” Initially Sohail tried to deny the story. ” Nothing at all happened.
I have met Mozez only once or twice in my life and what issue would I have with him? I would love to hear what you heard because now these rumours are getting funny.” When we told him that there were witnesses to the fight and that some people had found his act chivalrous, Khan says, ” Ya, I just told him to relax a bit but nothing as dramatic ( as a slap) happened.
But I am happy that people noticed and thought I was chivalrous.” Posted in
(less)Desi delight for 'Jodi Breakers' unit in Greece
"There were twenty young Punjabi boys from Mykanos Island, who were also part of the group. They were also huge Bipasha Basu fans.
When they got to know about the unit's food dilemma, they pitched in. Soon they took charge and arranged for delicious Punjabi food including Sarson ka saag and Makki ki roti ," said a source.
For what came as a pleasant and delicious surprise, the unit members simply could not resist and relished it to the fullest. We heard Maddy, Bipasha and other cast members left the Greek food aside and joined the rest to relish the Indian food.
The story doesn't end here as Maddy who is very fond of pickles was spotted firing the staff as they forgot to carry pickles from India. And to his rescue came a Sikh guy, also a local junior artist.
"He arranged for some home-made achaar for the actor. Touched by his gesture, Maddy thanked him with a hug
(less)Bittoo Boss perfect launch pad for me: Pulkit Samrat
"It is wholesome entertainment. I always thought that if I ever make my Bollywood debut it should be with a film which has a good story, which has emotions, romance.
Bittoo Boss is all that I ever dreamt of and is the perfect launch pad for me," said Pulkit . The actor says he had to go through several rounds of audition before finally bagging the role in the movie by debutante Supavitra Babul.
"I had to undergo several rounds of auditions. Initially, I was constantly being rejected as the role required me to look rugged and director thought I had a sophisticated look.
But I worked towards the looks and convinced him finally that I can fit quite well into the role," he said. Pulkit said he had no idea of the story when he signed the film as he was too excited to bag a lead role.
v"I signed the film even without reading the script. I had no idea what the story was about.
It didn't matter to me me at that time. I was so overwhelmed to get a lead in a film that I couldn't think of anything else.
After waiting for so many years, I am very excited to see the dream come true," he said. Pulkit said that he was a bit concerned with the fact that his character in the film seemed to have slight resemblance with Ranveer Singh's role in 2010 film Band Baaja Baaraat but he says he later realised that his Bittoo is a rural boy and far more charming than Ranveer's character.
"I was concerned that there might be some similarity between my character and that of Ranveer Singh's but I later realised that his character was a city boy while mine is a boy from a small town. My accent in the film is also very rustic and my Bittoo is far more charming, egoistic, erratic," Pulkit said.
The actor belongs to an affluent business family in the capital and he says he does not work for money but to pursue his passion for acting. "I have never worked for money.
My job is to entertain and I take it very seriously. That is the whole reason of my being an actor.
I have always wanted to act in films. Even when I was working in Kyuki.
..
..
', I kept on hoping that one day I will get a chance to show my talent in films," he said. Pulkit has an image of a 'chocolate boy' since the time he made his acting debut on the small screen and he says he wants to carry it forward in films as well.
"I want to maintain the chocolate boy image that I have. I want to be a romantic hero but I am also open to experimenting," he added.
The film also stars Amita Pathak, producer Kumar Mangat's daughter and will hit the theaters on April 20. Tweet
(less)I don't care about my looks: Imran Khan
"It is a pleasure coming to Ahmedabad. I plan to sample the Gujarati thali at a popular restaurant," he says with a warm smile.
Yes, we've heard that line so much from his B-Town counterparts who visit the state that it no longer makes our heart skip any beats. Talking about his experience of working with Kareena Kapoor , he says, "Kareena is a chilled-out girl.
I was always worried about how she would be to work with, but she is uncomplicated. She comes with no drama or excess starry baggage," he shares.
Film promotion on the eve of its theatrical release seems to have become an integral part of showbiz today. "One has to market the film well because the stakes are higher and theatrical revenue still makes up a huge percentage of a film's profit.
The overseas market today comprises not just NRIs, but even foreigners who have started watching Hindi films, so one needs to carpetbomb with promotional trips/ moves. The markets in the US, UK and the UAE have grown phenomenally over the last few years and catering to those territories help us grow.
Our films are released in India and in foreign countries on the same day. Secondly, the options for entertainment have also increased - games, HD TV and internet.
We are competing with other entertainment mediums," he says. And does he think his looks work for him in films? "I have never thought about it.
I follow the script , I don't care about how I look," he says. Imran is happy that his solo films have worked commercially at the BO.
"I feel if an actor can carry a film on his/her shoulder, he should just do that," he says. While a majority of his romantic films have raked in moolah at the BO, Imran says that he doesn't limit himself to a particular genre.
"I have done seven films so far, and only three were romantic. Delhi Belly, my biggest hit wasn't a love story.
I do projects that are interesting," he says. It's believed that having a famous surname in the film industry helps.
So does he think that mamu jaan (Aamir Khan) has helped him in carving his success story? "It's hard to say that. Only two of my hit films were produced by him.
But, the audience doesn't care who a star's related to. A starry surname might get us lot of print/TV space, but can't convince the audience to buy tickets on that basis," he avers.
So how often does he consult Aamir before signing on the dotted line? "Aamir has never read my scripts or met my film directors. He is too busy with his life and work.
He has not seen most of my films. I also haven't seen Dhobi Ghat," he says.
In an industry where most relationships are fragile, Imran has dated Avantika for seven years before tying the knot."Relationships work if you invest time and effort in them.
You can't describe human relationships in words/phases," he says. Famous last words, Imran!
(less)Gour Hari is the fittest 80 year old I’ve seen: Vinay Pathak
I was one of those kids who would always be excited about these awards and it was a great feeling to be hosting it. For an Indian actor, this is the highest space that one can aspire to be in.
A lot is said about the need for transparency in the way the awardees are selected. Any suggestions on that? There are people with vision who decide on the policies and can take a call on that.
I feel, there is always room for improvement in terms of making the show better. Not only should the awards be telecast live, one can also bring in new technology to ensure that the screening is of the best quality.
Did you manage to interact with any of the awardees in person? Not really. I wish I could exchange words with the Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Soumitra Chatterjee.
I've heard that he is playing King Lear in a stage adaptation of the Shakespeare play. I too have just opened a play that's been directed by Rajat Kapoor.
It is set in contemporary times and is about a clown's rendition of King Lear. It is a one -man show titled "Nothing Like Lear".
I wish to meet up with Soumitra Chatterjee when I am touring with the play in Kolkata. Is it right to say that you are clowning around in the play? One has to understand where the idea of a clown comes from.
There's a lot more to the clown that what you see. The clown within all of us helps understand the tragedies and comedies better.
Clowning is a very serious indulgence and is the quintessential necessity of a diligent approach. To clown is to know how not to laugh at first.
Besides, the clown is the most liberal. How did you react when you were first approached to play such a serious role in "Gour Hari Dastaan"? When Ananth approached me to play this freedom fighter from Odisha, I asked him why he wanted me in the role.
He said he had seen me on stage, films and television and always believed that there was so much yet-explored in me. Gour Hari Das is a brilliantly written character and will easily be any actor's dream role.
Gour Hari is the fittest 80-year-old man I've met. It's a challenge for me to do this biopic about the story of a man who fought for India's independence when he was a teenager and later to prove his own contribution in free India.
Do you ever find the funnyman image limiting for you? It is about perception. When "Bheja Fry" was made, everybody wanted to make another "BF".
Directors wanted to shoot movies on limited budgets and in just three locations. However, I'll say that I've always wanted to bring something new to the table even when I am playing a clown.
In fact, playing a clown is a big honour and responsibility. As an actor, I always try to find different ways of playing a clown to avoid being stereotyped.
How much of this funnyman image do you carry in your real life? I am a mix of many things. While I can be an extrovert, I am also someone who can stay within the four walls of the house without interacting with anyone.
How much of the weathered life that you've led has helped you to be the actor that you are? Acting is a human craft and is ever-evolving. If I had to play Gour Hari two years later, I would have done it differently.
While people do talk about how they channelize their tragedies to be more creative, I don't like talking about having done all that. Every person has to fight his/her demons.
I believe, it's only in India that we give so much of importance to talking about individual worries and how they give an edge to a creative individual
(less)Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya: Movie Review
Over here the bride remains in place though they opt for a husband interchange in the marriage mandap . The alterations might be minor but, in totality, it helps this regular rom-com gain an identity of its own.
The best alternative that the film chooses, however, is having Genelia D'Souza play the free-spirited girl over the over-exploited Kareenas and Katrinas that the genre has often seen. Genelia not only brings freshness to the genre but her camaraderie with Riteish Deshmukh is at full throttle as compared to all their earlier outings.
To escape an undesired wedlock, Mini (Genelia D'Souza) gets herself kidnapped by the hands of a rickshaw driver Viren (Riteish Deshmukh). The unassuming Viren turns victim of the situation and has no option but to carry forward with Mini's plans.
Until the duo actually gets kidnapped by some gangster. The writing by Dhieyo Sandhu might not be path-breaking stuff but doesn't fall in the predictable territory either.
The first half works towards building the rapport between the lead pair through their escapades. While the narrative, more or less, keeps you hooked, the graph dips intermittently and one wishes the escapades should have been more eventful.
There isn't any physical intimacy between the couple though their contrasting characters contribute to their credible chemistry. The second half lands in more familiar territory amidst a North Indian sarso-ke-khet backdrop.
You are randomly introduced to Viren's extended joint family and their specialized family business - kidnapping. There are lessons on optimization in the abduction trade and endorsement of Indian tourism with lectures on how to treat foreign travelers with respect.
Evidently they contribute nothing to the plot but are amusing nonetheless. Further you are assured that this family setting is the ideal place where ' Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha ' between the lead pair.
Fortunately director Mandeep Kumar has control over things and doesn't let the film go out of hands. Neither does he let Genelia's animated act go overboard, nor does he overuse the cultural backdrop.
Unlike most films in similar vein ( Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani ), there is no third angle in the love story and thankfully so. The film employs the abduction trade on a lighthearted backdrop resulting to some good humour.
However a minor bone of contention is that it subsequently uses the same aspect to set a moral tone in the climax. The film primarily works thanks to the convincing chemistry and performances by the lead pair.
Riteish Deshmukh is resourcefully restrained, perfectly poised and, needless to say, his comic timing is impeccable. At the same time he allows Genelia to take lead as the film largely revolves around her character.
And Genelia does complete justice to her meaty role with a refreshing and dynamic act. Her cute looks and electrifying smile add to her appeal.
From the character cast, Om Puri gets the best lines and induces frequent laughter. Chitrashi Rawat and Navin Prabhakar are wasted.
Veena Malik's item number was avoidable. With the feel-good factor working to its advantage, you might just end up saying Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya to this sweet-n-simple film.
Verdict: Good
(less)Meet the Dons of Bollywood
Incidentally, they also became the basic role-models(!), and have, almost been idolised by script writers down the ages when it comes to penning villains' roles. Also, our stars have, since long, been very proud of playing don on screen, and have even won awards for the same.
Think Shabana Azmi ("Godmother"), Nayagan ("Kamal Haasan"), Amitabh Bachchan (" Agneepath "). The latest in the line is Bollywood's brand new villain Sonu Sood, who is going around saying, "I am super excited to be playing Dawood Ibrahim.
" He will be essaying the role of the underworld don in "Shootout At Wadala" and he also says he is doing his bit to carry off the role perfectly. Now all of them say this - that they are doing their bit to perfect the role.
Wonder what they do to 'perfectly' portray a guy no one has really seen much in public and someone they (hopefully) have never interacted with, nevertheless, here's bringing you a list of asli dons and their screen versions portrayed by our stars over the years..
. with Dawood Ibrahim and Haji Mastan emerging clear favourites with Bollywood! 'Deewar' (1975): Amitabh Bachchan based on Haji Mastan It was the movie that introduced the 'angry young man' in B-wood, the movie that made Amitabh Bachchan a superhero.
And yet, the fact that the storyline of "Deewar" was based on a don - was actually the making of Haji Mastan - was kept a less-publicised fact. Interestingly, Bachchan's character, Vijay is believed to be one of the first real-life inspired gangster roles in Hindi cinema.
It is rumoured that when he heard that the story of the movie was based on him, Mastan asked for the movie to be shown to him first. Not surprising, since the writer Salim Khan and Bachchan often visited Mastan while the film was being shot, making people believe that the duo took inputs from the real-life don.
Years later, when moving court for another movie based on her dad's life, "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai", his daughter said, "My father had seen "Deewar" and did not exactly find Amitabh Bachchan's character modelled on him!" 'Nayagan' (1987) and 'Dayavan' (1988): Kamal Haasan and Vinod Khanna based on Varadarajan Mudaliar Both the movies were based on the life and times of the Matunga muscleman, Varadarajan Mudaliar. While "Nayagan" (Tamil) saw Kamal Haasan play Vardhabhai (as the don was known), "Dayavan", the Hindi version had Vinod Khanna playing VM.
But unlike "Nayagan", which got an Academy nomination in the foreign films category, "Dayavan" was talked about for the hot kiss shared by Khanna and Madhuri Dixit. 'Godmother' (1999): Shabana Azmi based on Santokben Jadeja Shabana Azmi added one more National Award to her kitty for playing a woman don in a male-dominated society.
The movie was ostensibly inspired by the life of Santokben Jadeja , who rose to notoriety with her underworld gang in the 1980s and was known as the godmother of Porbandar, and the lady did not take kindly to being shown as a smoker and drinker on screen. Before the film's release, the real godmother filed a case of defamation against the producers.
"Smoking, drinking and swearing are taboo for Mehr women, and I have never indulged in any of these activities," said her petition. The court issued a stay, prompting the film's director, Shabana and Javed to go to Gujarat to placate Santokben.
Their first attempt failed, but nevertheless, a consensus was arrived upon and the movie was finally released. 'Agneepath' (1990): Amitabh Bachchan based on Manya Surve Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, played by the Big B in the film, was apparently modelled on Manya Surve , a dacoit and gangster in Mumbai, also the man in the police records as Mumbai's first recorded encounter killing.
It is said that so heavily was the movie based on Surve, that Bachchan was even asked to copy the gangster's voice. But years later, in a TV interview, Bachchan said his dialogues were modelled on Varadarajan Mudaliar.
The film was a flop at the box office, but earned Bachchan a National Award. The movie was then remade by Karan Johar in 2011 with Hrithik Roshan in the lead.
'Company' (2002): Ajay Devgn based on Dawood Ibrahim, Vivek Oberoi based on Chhota Rajan This Ram Gopal Varma film is considered one of the truest depictions of Dawood and his underwoold activities - though no one associated with the film ever openly said so, the sequence of events that let to the split between Dawood and Chotta Rajan in the film were too close to truth for comfort. Ajay Devgn's role was modelled on Dawood (called Mallikbhai in the film).
Ajay once recalled in an interview, "A lot of research went into the kind of dressing sense they followed, language, the ancient structures and the heritage cars they shuttled around in. And Vivek Oberoi played Chandu (Chhota Rajan).
Apparently, the recruitment of Chandu into Aslam Ali's gang by Mallik was almost identical to that of Chhota Rajan's into Dawood's after Rajan's mentor Bada Rajan died in the early 1980s. It was said that Daya Nayak, Mumbai Police's encounter specialist, who is a good friend of RGV, helped him with the script.
It showed, in the details. 'D' (2005): Randeep Hooda based on Dawood Ibrahim Though this came later, this movie is considered to be a prequel to "Company", and had Randeep Hooda playing a mechanic who comes to India after his mom's death, and rises in the crimelord legions of Mumbai's underworld.
The movie ends with Deshu (as Randeep is called in the movie) planning to form a 'D' company and operate it from outside India. Shades of Dawood, anyone? Shootout at Lokhandwala in (2007): Vivek Oberoi based on Maya Dolas This was based on the Maya Dolas encounter of 1991.
Vivek Oberoi played Maya, a gangster who worked with Dawood. But the real Maya's mother Ratnaprabha did not take nicely to it and moved court to ban the film, stating that it paints a wrong picture of her son, and shows her egging her son to become a criminal, which is not true.
In their defence, the directors claimed that the movie was a highly fictionalised account, though they used real names and places. Chhota Rajan also objected to the film, saying that it "grossly distorts the facts, leading AA Khan, one of the cops who led the team that gunned down Maya Dolas, to rubbish Rajan's claim.
'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai' (2010): Emraan Hashmi based on Dawood Ibrahim, Ajay Devgn based on Haji Mastan Again inspired by Dawood, this time played by Emraan Hashmi (called Shoaib Khan in the film). Ajay Devgn played Haji Mastan ( Sultan Mirza ).
Emraan said his look was not inspired by Mr D, but the dark aviators and the moustache he sported in the movie were a dead giveaway. And this film saw its fair share of controversies.
First, Haji Mastan's adopted son Suleiman Mirza moved court asking the makers of the film to put a disclaimer stating saying it is not based on Mastan. Also, Mastan's daughter Shamshad Supariwala filed a lawsuit for the same reason.
She then asked to be shown the movie before release to ensure that details of her father's life were not misconstrued. "I only want to see if they portrayed my father correctly and if they have not, then get particular scenes deleted," Supariwala had said.
But later, the makers added a disclaimer. In the pipeline 'Shootout at Wadala' Buzz is that Vivek Oberoi will play Dawood Ibrahim's character in "Shootout At Wadala", and will also use Dawood Ibrahim as his screen name according to rumours.
Incidentally, the filmmaker studied the legal pros and cons of using the name Dawood in the movie. 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Again' The sequel to the Haji Mastan movie by the same name has one more B-Town A-lister gunning for Dawood's role - Akshay Kumar .
'Lakeer Ka Fakir' This is being made by none other than Zubair Khan, son-in-law of Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar . It's a movie on the don, and guess because of the lineage, we will have to take him seriously when he says, "Mine is the most authentic movie on the underworld.
" Incidentally, Zubair shares a birthplace with some of the most dreaded underworld dons, including Karim Lala, Dawood and Chhota Shakeel - he was born in the hospital in Do Taaki, Dongri. The downtown area has been associated with the rise of Mumbai's gangsters.
Zubair claims to know every corner of the area and he says that he feels comfortable shooting in the area. 'Mastaan' Naseeruddin Shah is supposed to play Karim Lala in this one, with his younger son Vivaan debuting as Haji Mastaan.
Another don-protege movie, but in an era before Dawood. Movie on Sharman Sanjay Dutt is all set for yet another gangster movie.
This time, based on a real-life don - a take off from Shabana Azmi's "Godmother". Dutt will play her son, the real-life Gujarat-based gangster Sharman Munjha Jadeja, Santokben Jadeja's son, because of whom the godmother gave up her don-ways.
Known as the Robin Hood of Gujarat, Sharman Munjha and his family ruled Porbandar and other areas of Gujarat in the 80s. 'Tamanchey' Starring Nikhil Dwivedi and newcomer Richa Chadda, this one is rumoured to be based on the romance between Abu Salem and Monica Bedi.
But Nikhil has already said it is not based on Abu Salem's life
