Padmini Kolhapure To Star In A Malayalam Film
Naseeruddin Shah and Padmini Kolhapure team up after 26 years
"As it was my first step towards film direction, I had to have Naseersaab in my project," says Rakesh, who has featured in plays like Manto Ismat Haazir Ho, Katha Collage and All Thieves. "He is known to be particular about the script and storyline.
When I narrated my concept to him, he gave his nod immediately. That really boosted my confidence.
He even put in a word with Om Puri who co-stars."About Padmini's casting, Rakesh says, "We were looking at certain actresses and when her name was discussed, I thought she fitted perfectly.
" Apparently, when Naseer was told about the casting of Padmini, he gave a broad smile! "On Day One of the shoot, both recalled the Woh 7 Din days. It was nostalgia time for them.
I didn't even realise when the 12-hour shooting schedule ended. They would keep on chatting in between the shots.
Produced by Goldy Bhutani of Shree Keshav Films, the film also stars newbie Rishi Bhutani. Twenty-six years after they were seen together in Woh 7 Din, Naseeruddin Shah teams up again with Padmini Kolhapure again in Bolo Raam.
Directed by debutant Rakesh Chaturvedi, who is part of Naseer's Motley theatre group, the film is a psychological thriller. (less)Tejaswini Kolhapure gets the rawest deal ever in Raavan
She spent two-and-half gruelling months away from home and husband (filmmaker-actor Pankaj Saraswat) in the jungles shooting for Raavan . The end-result - one passing shot, lasting no more than five seconds in a wedding song.
Surely this must rank as the most abbreviated role in the history of Hindi cinema! One of Tejaswini's co-stars in Raavan says: "At least Tejaswini is visible in one shot. Poor Sadashiv Amrapurkar, at his age, he was on location in the jungles for 90 days.
He doesn't even have one scene in the film. And what about poor Sachin Khedekar, who is there for just one scene as Abhishek's father? He also played Aishwarya's father in Guru and had his role chopped off because Mani wanted to focus on the Abhishek-Aishwarya story.
" Incidentally, Madhavan and Vidya Balan also had their roles severely chopped off in Guru . Surprisingly, Tejaswini doesn't try to dodge the savage editing of her part with sugar-coated words.
When asked about her blink-and-miss appearance in the movie, she said: "Mani sir and the entire crew knew what my role was. I shot for a good 75 days.
The role in the film is what you saw. Nevertheless, it was a treat working with a director like Mani Ratnam.
Anyone would give their right hand to work with him. All I had to suffer were some minor bruises.
It's crazy to say this after what I've gone through. But I'd love to work with him again.
" Tejaswini has been unlucky in her career from the very beginning. Her first film, as leading lady in Anurag Kashyap's Paanch was never released.
But she's hopeful about the future. "I've finished Happi with Pankaj Kapoor-ji which is directed by Bhavna Talwar.
I've also done a short film called Salt & Pepper about farmers' suicides directed by Mohinder Pratap Singh and Shashank Ghosh's segment in Mumbai Cutting (a film with short stories on Mumbai). Ironically in Shashank's film I play an actress trying to find a foothold in the film industry," she adds
(less)Tejaswini finds her roots
Tejaswini is very excited to work with national award-winning director Sanjay Surkar. She says, “It’s a great opportunity to work with the man who has directed Saatchya Aat Gharat, Saheli and Ghara Baher.
” Speaking about the film, she says, “Lathi is a family drama set in the 80s and the journey to 10 years from then. I’m playing Sachin Khedekar’s wife.
We both believe in family values which is fast dwindling.”
(less)Shraddha's filmi connection
Now, that is some Bollywood connection! Tell Shraddha about it and she says, “Well, I guess some people are just lucky.” So, movies were a natural choice for her? “My father and aunts are actors, while Lata Mangeshkar is my grandfather’s cousin; growing up in such an environment, I developed a natural interest in cinema,” she says.

(less)Prakash's daughter to become playback singer
' As soon as Prakash Jha became aware of his daughter's avid interest in music he arranged for her to be trained by a classical vocalist. 'I spent my childhood in a boarding school at Panchgani.
As soon as I came to stay with my father in Mumbai I began training under Padmini Kolhapure's father Pandit Pandharinath Kolhapure. Soon after that I started training under Archana Shah who's my current guru,' says Disha.
Disha says she intends to start singing professionally as soon as her guru tells her she's ready. In the meanwhile, Disha continues to learn the ropes of filmmaking from her father.
'I'm the costume supervisor for my father's Raajneeti. But it didn't take him long to realise what my real passion was because he too is a singer.
He has also sung a little bit in his earlier films,' she adds

Did he do it? Didn't he? Was it somebody else? Do I look like I give a ..
.? A; drama Well, to begin with, when you're going to go about making a?? murder mystery, you better have a story that draws you in right from the opening credits.
Dir: Rakesh Chaturvedi 'Om' Doesn't happen here. You really cannot expect much when you have the following: Unheard-of lead actors, Padmini choosing to make a 'comeback' as a corpse, way too many flashbacks and Om Puri playing a cop for the umpteenth time.
Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Rishi Bhutani, Padmini Kolhapure. Disha Pandey?? And what's with the jihad angle just for the heck of it, people? In your quest for asking questions and waiting for mute-boy to answer them, you pop one in and hope no-one will notice? Well, I'm sure everyone did.
And hated it! 1/2 Look around. Chances are, the 'audience' is probably there to 'work' in silence.
There will probably be more interesting things happening around you
