Vikram Chatwal to work with Abhishek Bachchan
But then, when we met Vikram in Delhi some days ago, he said he'd been sober for over three weeks, and showed us the many religious tattoos on his arms, one of them being 'Safira', giving us a glimpse of his other side, the one that tabloids don't pick up. Vikram's multi-million dollar nuptials to Delhi model Priya Sachdev in 2006 made headlines, but after his split from Priya, Vikram has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
He was sent to rehab just a year after his marriage, and two rehab stints later, this model-cum-actor has embraced sobriety "for the sake of Safira". "It has been about three weeks since I quit drinking.
The urge comes..
. You just have to get around it.
I had got disconnected and lost focus, and I am doing this for myself, to enjoy life with my daughter," he says. Known as the hard partying billionaire in New York , Vikram was linked with Lindsay Lohan in 2011.
But he refuses to talk about the link-ups that made him a gossip column fixture. "I'd like to keep my private life and all those dating rumours about Hollywood women private," he asserts.
Instead, he chooses to talk about his current focus in life - his business, films and his daughter. "I was in India in January for a business trip.
I want to open a few hotels, and that takes time," he tells us. Intent on getting rid of his playboy image, Vikram, when quizzed about Angela Lindvall , his current flame whom he brought to India with him, defends his 'friend' as someone who wants to become a yoga guru.
"She's (Angela) a famous supermodel in America. She is studying Kundalini Yoga very seriously and she's learning to become a master teacher of yoga in America.
Her guru is Yogi Bhajan, who has converted 1.5 crore people in America to follow yoga.
He has written a lot of books. She follows him very seriously," he says.
Fresh out of a rehabilitation centre in Bangalore where he was kept on a strict diet of raw fruits and vegetables, Vikram says he is a changed man and wants to lose weight for his upcoming films. "They use certain oils, mud packs, a diet of fruits and vegetables - no medicines - to cure everyone from smokers to cancer patients.
On the 10th day, I found a bar of chocolate in my suitcase and had it, and it was like ecstasy..
. almost like an orgasm," Vikram says.
He'll also be getting back to acting as well as producing films soon. "I am doing a rugby film with Mickey Rourke , so I have to lose weight.
I lost 11kg in 11 days. I play tennis, squash and I do power yoga to keep me busy.
I also have a Shekhar Kapur film lined up for which I had to learn the British accent. I am also doing a film with Apoorva Lakhia, Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham.
Then there's another called "Below Poverty Line" with Amy Jackson and Gulshan Grover , apart from a Hollywood film with Ashley Judd." But films are secondary in Vikram's life, and what really has all his attention is his five-year-old daughter Safira.
He says he is the typical overprotective father. "Once she starts mentioning dating and boys, I'll keep a gun on me," he says, only half-joking.
"I have a big influence on her life. I'm happy with the way her mom has raised her.
She's a nice little girl who likes to play with her friends. I am the only male who is close to her.
We play together, have baths together and I ask her questions about boys, and she gets very shy." He then adds, "I am not afraid of my daughter following in my footsteps, she's a very strong little girl.
There are things I am notorious for; I am sure she will eventually read about them. There were some pictures of me with an American actress that came out, and she was like 'Daddy, daddy, what are you doing?' But she's her own person and I'll be like any other Indian father.
I'll protect her and give her what she wants. When I got separated, I thought I wouldn't be spending much time with her, and that's what made me depressed and led to my drinking habit.
" What many people don't know is that Vikram is very superstitious and follows astrology closely. He even planned the birth of his first child around November.
"I believe in birthdates and astrology. I made sure my daughter was born a Scorpio because I get along with Scorpios really well.
I have a Scorpio tattoo, and 'Safira' inked on my arm. When Scorpios come in contact with other Scorpios, they become more passionate.
My close friend Sussanne Roshan is a Scorpio, and all we do is talk about being Scorpios. Any girl I've ever come across who was a Scorpio has challenged me, and been artistic and passionate.
I say stuff like 'knock on wood' and I bless myself with things, because I believe there's a force that's greater than us." Vikram also clears rumours about any tiff with his estranged wife, Priya (Sachdev).
"Priya and I talk about Safira all the time. We are really proud parents.
There are no hard feelings. In any relationship, it's tough, but if you're smart and mature, you will make sacrifices and make each other happy.
I am very proud of the way Priya has brought Safira up."

'He is done with the treatment and today is even repulsed by the smell of alcohol.' The source adds that Chatwal got hooked to the habit back in the day when he started socialising with people who partied hard.
Soon, it became an addiction. At the time friends and family sat him down and tried to get him off the habit, reiterating all the while that it would wreck him.
But there was no turning back for the young man. 'Eventually there came a time when he started complaining of getting weird and scary thoughts.
He went into acute depression and lost interest in everything,' adds the source. His well-wishers in the film industry came to his aid and convinced him to check into a rehab programme.
The recovery has been faster than expected, adds the source. 'He is an intelligent man and it is good to now that a life was saved from being wasted.
' Buzz is that soon we might see a reunion between him and his estranged wife Priya Sachdev (whom he married in an extravagant celebration) as well. Sphere: Related Content Categories 5 Reasons

(less)Rehab healed me: Vikram Chatwal
He publicly declared his love for Gisele with a Gtattoo on his arm. Then came his dream-like fairytale wedding in 2006, which was attended by Bill Clinton and Deepak Chopra.
Recently, he's been in the news after being spotted with Lindsay Lohan and the tabloids have been quizzing him on his relationship with her. New York's poster boy, billionaire hotelier Vikram Chatwal in this exclusive interview talks about the break-up of his marriage to Priya Sachdev, his addiction problem and his friendship with Lindsay Lohan.
He confesses frankly, "I've been confused, but I've sorted myself. I'm in control of my life again.
I'm going to be serious about my business plans. Life's been tough.
But I'm strong-willed." Priya and I are separated.
..
"I was too young when I got married. Priya and I wanted different things from the marriage.
We had different goals and expectations from life. I grew up with Western values.
My heart was confused, marriage made me realise what I really wanted from life. Once the baby was born, I realised we had matured into different people.
Priya and I are separated. We're amicable and remain good friends, for we have to meet frequently for our daughter Safira.
" My wild party days are over "I have grown up. I was a wild party boy.
Not anymore. My partying days are over.
It's not my priority anymore. I'm focusing on my hotels.
It's not party fatigue, but I've just slowed down. I want to spend time with my daughter rather than party all night long.
I'm notseen on Page Six too much. I'm mature about things now and I really want to be seen as a serious business guy.
My focus is my hotel chain right now." Last few years have been tough "I've been wondering about the choices I've made and what I want from life.
The decision-making has been tough. I asked myself what I wanted to do.
I had to balance my time between films, hotels and family. It's been challenging thinking about my options.
I followed my heart. The last few years have been tough, but they taught me to make choices that made me truly happy.
It was essential to live for the moment. I'm still a hopeless romantic.
Do things that give you real pleasure. I've been thinking a lot about my future lately.
I want to do things differently, and I want to do them right." I kicked my addiction 'As I was getting older, I realised I wanted to opt for things that were healthy for me.
I went to rehab to get rid of my addiction. When I was going through my most difficult time, I became an introvert; I was addicted, I closed up completely.
I wouldn't share what was going on inside me with anybody. I was silent.
The rehab helped me find a release. I was healed.
I was comfortable in telling everyone what I felt inside. The biggest strength I got was from talking about my problem, which really gave me the strength to kick it.
Life is about tackling problems that come your way." Bollywood calling .
..
"I want to make great hotels and do films. Currently, I'm talking to Shekhar Kapur for a film.
My film, Days of Grace made it to Cannes this year. I want to continue acting and producing films.
It's my big high." My angel Safira "She's changed me completely.
I try to spend four months in a year with her. She travels to New York to meet me and I come to New Delhi to be with her.
She knows she has a chemical connection with her daddy. She's the driving force in my life.
She even gives me advice. We play a lot and have fun together.
I make sure that I take a vacation with Safira. There are so many things I teach her and she learns from me.
" Lindsay and I are just friends "Lindsay Lohan and I spent some time together, and we got written about all over. She's a friend and I really don't want to talk about it.
" I'm wiser about living my dreams "I'm looking at life differently. I always wanted to do fun things with my hotels and films.
Now is the time. I've learnt my lessons, fallen and now I plan to make a big comeback.
I'm spiritually and emotionally wiser. I believe there is a higher power that protects us.
I want to pursue things that make me happy. I want to live in the moment.
"
(less)Ring in the new, ring out the old...
. some juicy, others sad, the rest spicy, such is life.
And, we are dismayed to hear that Mumbai has shifted speculation from the broken marriage between Arun Nayar and Liz Hurley to that of his parents, father Vinod and step-mom Joanne . Apparently all is not well here, long-standing differences have come to the fore, and the outcome appears grim.
Friends of the Nayars will talk loosely, of course, but if true..
. and coming on the heels of poor Arun's pre-Christmas disappointment.
..
this news is as sad as it is shocking. The senior Nayars are behaving in a mature manner and we wish Mumbai society would be a little more sensitive towards them.
Good luck and God bless, is all we can say. Meanwhile, Arun has gone back.
..
to wherever and whoever. He came, he saw, and he left.
..
after partying hard, going to the races, and giving Mumbai the impression that life could not be better. What was he supposed to do? If he had moped around the place, people would snigger behind his back; when he showed a happy face, they still gossiped.
But, it appears there was no patch-up between him and father Vinod. Perhaps Arun did not want to bother them with his problems when he saw they had their own.
Another relationship that's the goss of Mumbai-Delhi society is the alleged one blossoming between Sanjay Kapur and Priya Chatwal, both of whom are reportedly going through marital blues. Sanjay's marriage with Karisma Kapoor, Bollywood is saying, is on the rocks; and Priya's relationship with hotelier Vikram Chatwal isn't going so well either.
The two friends have become thicker since then and, Delhi tongues wag, have been spotted spending time with each other. Sanjay, however, maintains that all is well between Karisma and him.
And the former actress' father, Randhir Kapoor , said at a press conference that his daughter would not divorce her husband. But Lolo's close friends are concerned for her.
While Priya's friends swear that even they would be the last to know if she was developing feelings for Sanjay. She had maintained a dignified silence when all of them knew that her marriage to Vikram was going through a rough patch earlier.
And, finally, there's khabar that dusky model Lisa Haydon is besotted by Karan Bhojwani (society swan and philanthropist Devika and Suresh Bhojwani's young and eligible son). The two have apparently been dating for the last couple of months but things appear to have taken a serious turn recently.
Lisa (who debuted in Bollywood with Aisha) has been talking about Karan to her friends. And the young couple party together and have become quite the talk of town.
However, their first romantic New Year plan was dashed due to a sudden family crisis that Karan had to tackle. The lovebirds were in Goa at the Sunburn Fest last weekend and planned to ring in the New Year there.
But Karan's family had to rush back to Mumbai and tend to Usha Khanna (Karan's maternal grandmother) who was hospitalised due to a relapse of malaria. Usha's better now and discharged.
All's well that ends well
(less)Sex out of Bollywood closet with Love Sex Aur Dhokha
The movie releases Friday. "Voyeurism is what the whole society finds itself trapped in and this is the reality that I wish to bring through my film," Banerjee had told.
A co-production of Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor and Priya Sreedharan, it is a small-budget movie that will release across 350 screens in India. Unlike other Bollywood films, it won't have an international release.
It stars debutants Anshuman Jha, Shruti, Raj Kumar Yadav, Neha Chauhan, Amit Sial, Arya and Herry Tangdi. "We are not releasing 'Love Sex Aur Dhokha' internationally because the recovery for small movies is not possible outside.
We plan to take it to festivals instead," Sunny Khanna, senior vice president of Balaji Motion Pictures, told. "Love, Sex Aur Dhokha" takes a look into three stories unfolding across and weaving through each other.
The first story goes like this - in a second rate film institute in north India, a final year student gears up for his diploma film. In pristine tackiness, with an amateur small town cast, Rahul starts etching out the themes of star-studded Bollywood love in his magnum opus and then falls in love with his heroine.
Somewhere in the same city, Adarsh, a tech savvy security camera agency executive installs four security cameras in a 24-hour departmental store with the idea of making a porn clip. He starts to woo Rashmi, a simple salesgirl, when suddenly a shootout happens in the store and she saves a life.
For the first time, Adarsh notices a woman in her. In another corner of the city, Prabhat, a sting journalist teeters on the brink of total meltdown.
Going through a divorce and about to be fired from his job, he attempts a series of failed suicides. And then he meets Naina, who is also trying to commit suicide.
Naina had been promised a music video by a reigning Bhangra Hip Hop star who slept with her in exchange for the offer, but the video finally went to a Russian blonde. Prabhat and Naina come closer over a series of attempts to seduce, blackmail and threaten the hip hop star.
They plan the final sting to catch the star on tape admitting his follies. Despite its bold subject, Banerjee is not worried about the reaction of audiences and critics.
"If you don't like the title and think that it may not have the content that would be appropriate for you, then don't watch 'Love, Sex Aur Dhokha'. I know there is an audience waiting for the film and it is that segment which wants to call a spade a spade.
In any case, the film isn't designed for those who wish to escape from the realities of life," he said. The music track of the album has also sparked controversy for its crude lyrics
