A film that changed three lives
Shatrughan Sinha , an actor known for his villainous roles was making his first mark as a hero. The leading lady, Reena Roy , with just two hits to her name thus far, had finally landed a plum role.
Yet, the 1975 film Kalicharan went on to become a blockbuster. Reena and Shatrughan suddenly became the most sought after lead jodi.
And Subhash Ghai became the showman. Captured by ace lensman Jagdish Aurangabadkar, this picture, on the sets of the film produced by Nari Sippy, shows the young Ghai (on the left wearing sunglasses, and totally unrecognisable) explaining a romantic scene to his lead actors Shatrughan and Reena.
Perhaps it was in the explaining or just the actors' reported off screen chemistry that landed the two in each others' arms even before the director could say 'action'. The film Kalicharansparked off reports of a blossoming romance between Shatrughan and Reena Roy.
The torrid affair between the much-married actor and his Kalicharan co-tar was one of the most talked about romances in the 1970s. The romance soon died out with Reena tying the knot with Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan .
But the love saga got etched into the history of Hindi cinema industry. Like the lead jodi's love story, the film Kalicharanalso kickstarted the filmmaking career of Subhash Ghai.
The young man had come to Bombay to become an actor. But after a series of failed attempts tried his hands at filmmaking.
With his rather special appearances in his directorial ventures, he satisfied his acting bug and soon came to be known as the showman of Bollywood. Kalicharan, the film was not just about the undercover cop, it was about the three main people, whose lives changed forever after this

(less)John Abraham, Kunaal Roy Kapoor in Kala Ghoda
Kala Ghoda , set in the Mumbai underbelly, will be shot in real time on actual locations and promises some real action. "It's the story of two cops, one hard-nosed no-nonsense and volatile played by John and the other a goofy ineffectual bumbling cop, played by Kunaal Roy Kapoor, who come together under trying circumstances for one night of relentless action in Mumbai," said Aditya, who is Bimal Roy's grandson and director Basu Bhattacharya's son.
The film goes on the floors at the end of the year and involves situations that come straight out of the record books of real-life police stations. The director admits he was initially reluctant to get into the project.
" Kala Ghoda is a authentic cops film. And my catchline for the film would be 'No Gun No Fun'.
I was a bit hesitant. It was John's exuberance and energy level that convinced me," said Bhattacharya.
"His homework for the role is incredible. I come from a sensibility different from the archetypal 'Bollywood' cinema.
I felt John and I coming together to do a film would be as odd as John and Kunaal Roy Kapoor's characters in Kala Ghoda coming together. "But John's dedication to the film has convinced me that 'Bollywood' no longer exists.
It is a state of mind where the walls have dissolved and a misfit like me has a place here," he added. John, who will produce the film, conceives it as a low-budget gritty independent film, meant for a specific target audience.

(less)Kunal Roy Kapoor to direct horror film
Producer Siddharth Jain said, "Okay, we're auditioning for a film. But that's all I can tell you at the moment.
" Further probing revealed Kunal's direct involvement in the proceedings. "Kunaal is directing a horror thriller called 'Pool' for Siddharth Jain.
It's like one of those Japanese horror films with lots of girls in swimming clothes screaming blue murder," said a source. "Siddharth wants 'Pool' to scare audiences away from swimming pools just as Steven Spielberg's 'Jaws' had scared people off the beaches and the oceans," he added.
Kunal stepped into showbiz first as a director . He directed the little-seen Konkona Sensharma-starrer titled "Shall We Tell The President".
And then he took to acting. Post "Delhi Belly", he got several film offers but direction remains his first love.
"Pool" is expected to feature 12 new females. Asked about his tryst with direction, Kunal said, "I am very excited about this film.
I've managed to juggle my dates to fit in pre-production and the shooting. But it's going to be a packed year for me.

Apparently, Diwedi has no real experience in filmmaking. A source disclosed, "Diwedi caught Aamir's attention without an impressive biodata or past history.
